That just reminds me of all those shocking American "recipes" videos on facebook.. stuff like cold spaghetti hoop tart or something lined with hot dogs around the outside! they are not dishes!
Kalen Allen does very funny reaction videos to some of them on you tube

I saw a woman on Food Network making a cake the other day and she says "start by emptying the ready made cake mix into a bowl".

There are some meal in 1 pot slowcooker recipes that are truly awful on american sides. Not only the amount of ready made products but it'd never work out.

WTF is that first ingredient? A can of chicken?

I saw a 'hack' that recommended replacing the oil with butter and the water with milk on box cakes. I couldn't help thinking that if you had some sugar and eggs handy too you could just use flour to actually make a cake.

3 would sort of be mine, but I go straight to negative reviews. I think it is far worse to be giving 1 or 2 stars and then admitting you did not even follow the recipe.
OR the ones that say "This was horrible. I didn't have any chicken breasts, so I used ground beef, and I substituted peas for walnuts. Then I cooked it at 500 degrees for 15 minutes instead of 200 for 45 minutes cos I was in a hurry. I would not recommend this recipe."

    Is that real?!! Horrified.

While I'm here. Tesco online substituted a small packet of rocket for a massive bag. It says to be eaten within 24hrs of opening. Why does bagged salad often say that?

What would you do if you had masses of rocket? Not risotto.

Fry off some chorizo until it's crispy, throw in a handful of capers, then the juice of 2-3 lemons(depending on size and how juicy). Toss in some cooked linguine and loads of rocket. Serve.

It's also good on steak baguettes.

Bin it, smoothie or force-feed it to the kids or rabbits.

Yes, there are lots of reviews about them on sites & youtube. You can order them online too.

They have canned burgers too, with the buns. Skip to 3min14s for the grand opening.

I heard some say the canned christmas dinner was a fake, but the video seems legit. Maybe they just made a few EDIT: actually it does seem he faked the can. http://hoaxes.org/weblog/comments/christmas_tinner

Damn, I love rocket. Could make a rocket pesto and freeze some. Or just wilt and freeze in lumps, like frozen spinach. Rocket is not just for salads. Just as good for you as other leafy greens.

    This was in bargain alerts,
    Use code BIGTHANKS

It is to say thank you for voting them number one in the customer satisfaction charts.

The discount is available on products sold by Amazon retail including AmazonFresh, Amazon Pantry and Prime Now. It cannot be redeemed against products sold by third-party sellers on Amazon Marketplace or on Amazon Gift Cards, video games, baby product or digital content.

    From HUKD

I think many are unaware amazon sell so much food. Also it might not cross peoples minds as something to get to bump up the order. i.e. if you are over £25 on amazon you get free delivery to here, so if you got something for £20, you can add on a few bars or tins of food, or a big tub of peanut butter to get over £25, which can result in the overall price being less (as the post on the £20 item might be £6-7). It also stops you buying something you do not really need to get over the limit.

You would think there is no way they could be shipping tins of soup etc for less than a supermarket could sell, but you might be surprised.

It is also meant to apply to warehouse deals, in the thread people were getting sd cards etc.

    That flavour combination, jesus.

Just googled that Lady: "She is known for her "Semi-Homemade" cooking concept, which Lee describes as using 70 percent pre-packaged products and 30 percent fresh items."

I didn't think Amazon Pantry delivered to Ireland.

As an aside, I have been glued to some of the food documentaries on YouTube, about the current junk food craze and obesity epidemic globally.

The most frightful thing I saw recently looked at Mexico.

Way beyond weight, I think it was called.

Thing is, when you see this in US or UK, is one thing, but globally, it becomes terrifying.

Anyway, OT. A thread of its own I guess.

Canned chicken? One to print for my "what to eat during apocalypse" recipes folder.

I tested there and it seemed OK, and I am pretty sure I tested in a year or more ago and was allowed too, I was testing out the prices and it was cheaper to get peanut butter delivered than to buy in tesco. Back then there was no "amazon pantry".

Maybe some bulkier items are exempt. I have a chrome extension which takes a few seconds to kick in but shows which items are not available for delivery here.

My test was 2x2.96 kg of frenches mustard, £30.30 with free delivery. Seems tesco no longer sell it

That price is not particularly cheap per gram.

In Sandra Lee's defence I remember reading somewhere that the reasoning behind the 'semi-homemade' thing wasn't selling to people too lazy to cook properly, it was based on her own childhood experiences of having to act as a mother to her own younger siblings from when she was 12 and having to make do with very little money and with no-one to teach her how to cook from scratch. I think the idea is to show how to take premixed stuff and make something better out of it.

The Kwanzaa cake is...not one of her successes :p

This touches on the debate about 'is it cheaper to cook at home vs ready made' in terms of time and money.

I'm OT again but, I made chicken and vegetable soup yesterday that cost me €4 and there's a good six portions there at least. I did buy brown bread for 80c to go with it.

    Damn tasty it was.

I was on my way up to collect the little fella from crèche and popped into the second hand shop to look at books. Sitting on a shelf practically winking at me was a brand new, still in its box, pasta maker. Unwanted Christmas gift apparently. €15. I'm so ridiculously excited to get it home and give it a try.

Oh home made pasta is so good. Give it a go. My OH makes Lasagne from scratch! So good.

Anyone else loving the pomelos that Dunnes have on special for 49c at the moment? I don't think I'd tasted one before, but I really like the flavour and texture - it's like a mild, unbitter grapefruit.

They have pomelos?! Are they the ones that used to be sold as Ugly Fruit? I loved those things.

Nah, they are a different thing again - apparently Pomelos are one of the 4 original citrus fruits along with citrons, mandarins and something called a papeda- everything else - oranges, lemons, grapefruit etc. are all hybrids. Ugly fruit are a hybrid that was discovered growing wild in Jamaica.

(Guess whose been doing a bit of reading about citrus fruit lately :P)

Boiling Corned Beef. Does everyone go by weight/time or does anyone here use core Temp. as to when the meat is cooked. I find that weight/time usually ends up with overcooked meat regardless of the cut or cooking method. Was going to try a core temp. of 75C. Any opinions.

Only on cooked/over cooked, not safety etc. ;)
