So if someone looks at, say, a group of black people and says "sh1te people", you would say well it's fair enough, some might be engaged in crime?

    Come off it.

    What?

    Apples and oranges.
If it was a video of "a group of black people" or ANY group for that matter, who are committing a crime and/or putting other people persons and/or property at risk.
Then YES, its is fair enough to say they are "sh1te people".
Do you understand its their actions not who they are! They were hardly playing football in a park here. Are you just blind to this?

It really is shameful and an insult to the firm majority that obey the laws in our country that we have a micro culture embedded in which those belonging to it can ignore our laws as they see fit with no consequences.

I don't even know why this "culture" is tolerated today? Uneducated children, unhealthy adults, young deaths, violence, thuggery...

We should not accept that in this society?

My view is conform to a level of decency, respect and law abidance or get out to be perfectly honest. I make no bones about saying it.

What's laughable is that the thread is about people racing sulkys on public roads. It has been established that it is members of the settled and travelling community that engage in this practice yet the vast majority of post are insulting or blaming travellers exclusively. Tells you all you need to know really.

Once they are not harming others [or their property] and obeying all laws of the country. They can keep their culture as much as they like, once its doesn't clash with the previous statement.
Race their sulkies on closed roads/tracks to their hearts content, same as any other racing event.

I would have nothing against travellers or any group but the full force of the law should be applied to stop this near comical behaviour.
Wheather they are travellers or otherwise, doesn't matter.

    They are, demonstrably, sh1te people.

Kids and all? From birth? From being around road traffic offenders?

Fair enough. We'll just have to differ.

"They" = The people in that video who were sulky racing. They are sh1te people for sulky racing on the road and putting people's lives at risk.

I'm not talking about anyone else outside of those specific people who were actually sulky racing.

Do you think those two specific people did nothing wrong?

    It's actually precisely the point.

He is labelling children "sh1te people". People are falling over themselves to explain away why it's grand. And the explanations are nonsense.

I got an infraction for calling them knackers lol, and you wonder why board is losing posters, bye boards for another 5 years you fookin twangers

No, he did not label children that and any assumptions otherwise are nonsense. Its a video of a group of people committing a crime, any labelling is being attached to the people committing that crime. Children, or any one else in the video are just innocent bystanders.
A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent.

You made a near text book example of that! Its actually beautiful how perfect it fits the definition.

Only person "falling over themselves" here is you, falling over themselves to defend this behaviour with as much deflection tactics as possible. Well done.

Which children am I referring to then? Which children in that video do you think I'm labelling "sh1te people"? The ones on the sulkys who aren't children, or the children at the end of the video who weren't sulky racing and therefore did nothing wrong?

He was branding a group of people he doesn't know as inferior.

I was commenting on his post. And the best you can do is very lame ad hominem...

How do you manage to stand up when your chest must be covered in medals for all the battles you've fought on behalf of Travellers?

Travellers have a bad reputation and it is largely deserved due to the fact that it is based on their behaviour. This is a very simple concept, but somehow it continues to elude you.

    Glazers Out!

Just for clarity, this is the poster who brought up the reference. He is clearly and obviously referring to travellers.
The absolute state of them at the end.. I can't imagine being such a shlte person.

The nonsense being peddled, oh it's not a reference to travellers, he only means "them" because they all broke the law (demonstrably false, because the video shows kids), or he only means that element of them who broke the law (his post contains no such limitation).

Let's cut through the rubbish. He thinks travellers are "sh!te people". He said so. And that is to characterise them as "subhuman".

Should the bye-laws come in spectating at a sulky race will be made an offence.

The adults in that video are scum. Abusing animals and causing chaos in not what a normal person does.

Stop trying to be offended on behalf of travellers Conor, you're just coming across as a social justice keyboard warrior.

You are really really working hard to get offended at this.

Scumbags who race sulkeys on open roads, putting others in danger while ignoring gardai are scumbags because of their actions. not race, religion, gender or ethnicity.

I would argue, quite strongly, that your attempt at equating comments based on actions to ethnicity are probably the most damaging and racist in this thread..

I see people doing this on open roads that are not part of the "traveler community". They are also scumbags..

This is the thing. He wants to defend the travellers but he can't so instead he tries to accuse people of racism. It's just deflection.

You are like a dog with a bone.

    For reference:
The absolute state of them at the end.. I can't imagine being such a shlte person.

Its not a lot of words but pretty much everyone else here can clearly assume he is referring to the people who partook in said sulk race, both the 'jockeys' and the motorcade drivers. If you want to read more into that then so be it. But you might also like to note he never said "... travellers ... such a shlte person" either, so you are the one inferring that too.

So who is really the racist here?

I personally see a bunch of scumbag, sub-human, shíte people committing crime without a care in the world for others around them.

After all who else would do this and then follow it up with:
The shocked motorists were left even more distressed when the procession of cars returned to the scene, recording the damage they had caused on mobile phones and jeering at the scene of the accident.
Their ethnicity or race has got nothing to do with it!

He said "them". Meaning travellers. If you want to introduce qualifications and limitations that were not there and cannot be inferred, that is your choice.

As for the numbers thing, I appreciate lots of posters hate travellers and will bend the English language to defend their characterisation as subhuman. That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. If a poster gave the "sterilise them and stick them on some island" point I guarantee you it would be the most liked post on the thread.

Or "them", meaning the specific people in the video. You're the one expanding it to mean "all travellers". You're the one inferring something that wasn't said.

Once again, you are the one making that connection! Clearly you wont let it go so fine, think what you want. You clearly have your own agenda.

I'd like to point out you are the one saying this.
You are laterally using every card in the deck at this point.
You have managed to get the 'racist' card in there, the "wont someone think of the children" and now mentioning internment!?!? Something no one but you has said.

You are using these terms to derail the real issue here.

That there criminals above the law to the point that they are recording their escapades and nothing is done.

We'll agree a compromise. He hates all travellers, young, old, whether they do wrong or not, it really doesn't matter...as long as they appear on that video, he thinks they are "sh!te people". If you say that makes sense to you, we'll run with it.

Quicker to defend them than the poor people who got involved in accidents/damage to their cars over this. Nah, sure they have insurance be grand. Victimless crime!

The pregnant women will most likely claim off the driver who hit her but what about that driver? Where does that leave them but a nice [massive] renewal.

As for these clowns racing on a busy public road? Pavee Point and others will most likely divert the attention away and say "The Government [i.e. someone else] should pay to build purpose built race tracks and stables for them".

It is you that is assuming the people involved in the incident were travellers when they might very well have not been. You're trying to change tact now but you know what you are.

You're being completely and purposefully backwards, and attributing something to him that was not even remotely said. He was specifically referencing the people in the video. That does not automatically extend his comments to all travellers in the world in the same way that calling a group of Frenchmen featured in a video where they beat up a woman "sh1te people" does not automatically extend those comments to all French people.

Answer me this; what is your opinion of the two specific people who were sulky racing in that video?

FYI It was Pavee Point themselves who made comments following similar events in the past.

    Where is the back tracking?
We all know they were most likely travellers, but that does not matter!!!

Those individuals in that videos are criminals and any comments made are about them and them alone and not the wider community.

Yet again you're ignoring facts and ascribing xenophobic vitriol to anyone who's opinion differs with yours.

Realistically the post you made this morning goading a poster to refer to people as sub human should have earned to a ban, it would be nice to see the moderation staff here deal with it at this stage as your behaviour is becoming less acceptable with each post.

    Glazers Out!
