Reported in the Connaught Telegraph that Declan Shaw and Benji Smith are set to take over as the new management team at Castlebar Mitchels.

Reports that they were to be ratified tonight by the executive.

Alan Flynn former Galway under 21 football manager has been linked with the management setup.

Getting a serious trainer in Flynn. Has a major reputation in Galway.

Mayo News Football podcast - 2018 Scene Set.

The first episode of the 2018 season is just in time to set the scene for three weeks of hectic FBD league action as the new campaign begins. We kick off the new season in style with special guest Stephen Rochford joining Mike Finnerty to give us a little insight into his thinking ahead of a busy pre season period leading up to the national football league throw in later this month. Before all that, host Rob Murphy and John Gunnigan return to get the ball rolling on another year of podcasting.

Just searched for Walshs name and a midwest article popped up saying he was ratified in November.

Yeah Derek Walsh is definitely a Ballyhaunis man and was a selector the last two years.
Seemingly he has got a good commitment from players which is crucial as he will be without the Tooreen contingent until at least after their game with Ballyragget at the end of the month.

Not a chance he'll start, squad only came home yesterday.

I'd have thought he'd be rested for the FBD and portions of the league given the apparent medical issues he had last year and miles on the clock.

not to FDB games as far as I know.

    No, we tried on Sunday

    No, we tried on Sunday

And what are they charging for the big game tonight? :D I'll head in for a look

    10 euro

    5 euro student/OAP

No charge for juveniles (under 16s)

The season ticket has never been applicable to FBD games down through the years.

Good call, Nally starting instead of Boyle now.

    @MayoGAA: 3 changes to tonight's program
Ger Cafferkey will wear 20, 21 is Shane Nally and 25 is Kevin McLoughlin

1 positional change with 21 Shane Nally starting in place of 6 Colm Boyle

Stephen Rochford has made it pretty clear relegation from division one is not a consideration he wishes to countenance.

Without stating the obvious it would be the ideal if we could get a result in the initial away game to Monaghan.

    Excellent heading out the door.

    Mayo 1-10 Leitrim 0-13

Goal at the death salvaged a draw for Leitrim.Awful goal to concede, goalkeeper should have taken ball and man.Mixed night at the office for Paddy O Malley,a few loose kickouts.

Poor display overall by Mayo.Ger McDonagh did a decent enough job in the full back line.

Aidan Butler popped up a nice point in the second half.Understandably Shane Nally was a bit ring rusty taking a lot out of the ball and slowing the game.He sweeped back quite well in the second half. The two James from Claremorris attacked relatively well but were less comfortable on the back foot.

Jordan Flynn toiled well in the middle,Jason Gibbons injected greater urgency into proceedings at half time on replacing Barry Moran.

After an nice early score Fionn McDonagh struggled to make an impression. He appeared to commit a hand trip early in the second half but survived black card sanction.

Neil Douglas was probably for me the standout player tonight, creative and strong on the ball.Bizarre decision to kick the free on the 45 off the ground on such a wet night. At the best of times 45 yard frees are right at the limit of his range.

The inside line promised much but at times struggled to win their own ball.Alan Freeman missed his sole long distance free in the first half and stroke a very poor penalty in the second half.Justice in reality as it was a very soft decision with an element of overcarrying.

Ross Egan and Ciaran Treacy showed glimpses of what they're capable of with a couple of decent scores.Treacy kicked a very decent free kick post Freeman's substitution.

Adam Gallagher and especially Peter Naughton impressed on their introduction, one lovely score by the Knockmore man in particular.

All credit to all concerned for putting on any kind of displays in such terrible conditions.

Pre season games are all for injured players, not county board so passes don't apply.

Which by the way is one of regrets that they have been downgraded. Dubs/Kildare/Meath/Tyrone/Armagh had sell out crowds over past years. Big money that was well spent.

    What???

The gate receipts from the FBD league and the likes goes to the players injury fund. Not sure if this is done at National or provincial level.

weather not looking good for tonight esp the wind. If they go ahead players and ball will be going all over the place and the pitch will be ruined.

    Maby, I'm sure we'll know by 7pm!

Seems the FBD league is best played towards the end of September from now on imo. :D

What's the jackanory with that Akram fella? Read a lot of talk about him here during the off season, but don't ever remember seeing him in Croker during the summer. Is he only now out of minor?
