Are we not going over old ground with some of these players. Freeman does not have the fight in him. Douglas has had loads of opportunities to make a claim. These are mature players and the definition of insanity comes to mind.

Freeman could still do a job for us. The year away from the panel might have done him the world of good. I'd certainly give him a chance anyway!

According to the Mayo News the Mayo senior footballers had an easy win in a challenge match against NUIG today.By all accounts it was an experimental team.Kevin Keane,Jason Gibbons,Neil Douglas and Alan Freeman were among those who got game time as Stephen Rochford ran the rule over a host of new faces.

Maybe Rochford sees something in them that has yet to be developed? Look at how Andy has developed under Rochford. 2017 especially. Time will tell of course.

I've always liked Freeman. Think he could have made a difference from the bench in September but c'est la vie

In fairness Douglas has had club commitments during this time of the year before, so it's no harm to have a fresh look at him now and give him a proper chance to stake a claim

I'd be very surprised if the Championship starting team (at least at the business end if Mayo get there) had any complete new additions though this year, but sure now is the time to have a look

I would love if these guys come in with a bang and deliver when August comes around. We really need a player with attitude like Keegan who will score and take more responsibility from COC/AOS but that a huge ask.
I just don't see the difference we need here and we are just adding to the existing bunch of decent footballers. We need more.

Andy has been great in the Horan era so this is not the same. Andy was a huge loss when he got injured in 2012 and could have been the difference. I think he was playing really well that year.

Absolutely Andy was a truly quality player long before that unfortunate cruciate knee injury against Down.

Yes I agree with you both! I didn't mean that he wasn't good before. But his game has changed under Rochford.

A talented bunch alright, a lot more youth than experience though but a few there that I expect will be senior starters in years to come. Aside from those that have had a regular senior place, O'Donoghue, Akram, Ruane, Reape, Hall, Plunkett and Gallagher would be the standouts for me. Hard to see them getting a result against Galway unless Galway line out with a similar experimental bunch, but there's a good number there from the under 21 team of 2016 so they will be familiar with each other at least.

Similar sentiments,I really hope that Ruane, Reape and Hall and others get lots of game time.

Delighted Stephen Rochford has picked such a youthful squad, there are some potential nuggets of gold for the future.Reape really impressed me the few occasions I saw him this year and Matthew Ruane is likely future midfield starter. No sign of Fergal Boland?I am surprised Matthew Flanagan has not got a call up?

The presence of the Westport lads is indicative of the club's challenging very soon for a county title.

James McCormack is much talked about as a future star.

Tough ask to beat the Galway team that beat Sligo last night as was selected.

Looking forward to Sunday, hope to see few seniors starting,in spite of Andy's eagerness for the fray.Peter Cooke is one lad to look out for from the Galway team.

Boland would still be involved with the Tooreen hurlers. Flanagan is a handy baller alright, same with Jack Reilly of Charlestown by all accounts.
I’d like to see Liam Irwin given another shot but you never know what the backstory might be there.

Yeah. McHale park, for all the money spent on it, is a safety concern. Even if it's not the issue, who would've thought that 70's poles in the stands would cause issue in the 21st century

What safety concern? The poles shouldn't be there and are a pure nuisance in terms of obstructing one's view.Nobody is in disagreement on that but it is what it is.

Something that irritates me far more is the truly awful droning noise from the generator that powers the floodlights.

I've had the misfortune to be seated at a ticket only match next to one of those stupid poles, drove me bonkers not being able to see half the pitch. Normally I try to sit up in the stand where I can see both goals comfortably, through the poles.

    They left it late.

Stupid playing games this time of year anyway...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,918 ✭✭✭statto25

Shame as there looks to be a big crowd there. Players must be looked after though so right call if it's unplayable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Oldtree

Left us all standing in long ques until 2 on the dot. Did they think the pitch would thaw between 12 o'clock and now???

Absolute farce. Was in my seat at 1.40pm and there were rumours that it was going to be called off or delayed 30 mins. No announcement of any kind until 2.02pm. If there was any doubt at all it should have been called off at noon
