Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, ok! You've made your point lol!

I've been hitting 3 different types of stuffing a day since Christmas!

I've let myself slip badly with that! Regret that now! Haha that's one aspect of GV I could have been prepared for! Haha

Suppose I may start again tomorrow too!

Having been to the January induction I thought id make a little point re: fitness.

This isn't the marines. They're aren't looking for 35 of the countrys fittest and fastest to walk through the doors on induction morning.

They're looking for a good base level of which to work with. Most training is crossfit based with bleep tests thrown in.

Don't anyone be killing themselves or burning themselves out in the next few weeks. Work to a good level and a level that you know can be improved upon as they're looking to see progression over the 23 weeks.

    Counterpoint;

The fitter you are the easier you will find dealing with fatigue, the easier you will find recovering from the longer and more stressful shifts.

Many of you will be going to stations were you wear Ballistic vests and not just stabbings, that is a fair bit of weight to be carrying around. You don't want to be unnecessarily tired, as that will affect your home life.

There is clear medical correlations between fitness and managing stress, you are going into one of the most stressful jobs imaginable. In the words of tescos, Every Little Helps.

Like shanevendrell said, you have 23 weeks of progression, go in as fit as you can manage, but use the free gym that you have access to for 23 weeks to your advantage as well as the trim trail.

Talking of fatigue, you will experience it on a daily basis. Many nodding dogs an yawners in class. Get plenty of energy drinks and coffee. It will be your best friend. Oh and try get a good nights sleep. It always helps.

Hey guys, in relation to district choices do you number them in order of preference? Also has everyone picked more than one? There's only really the one area that I'm really keen on

  • Registered Users Posts: 180 ✭✭WittyName291

All choices bear the same weight so theres no order of preference. You simply cross the boxes that you would prefer. There is none more important than the other. Theres only 1 i would want but put more just incase. If you choose one amd dont get it you could be put in a random district on the other side of the country. Whereas if you put more than one, more likely than not one of those will be given to you. But again, they are all of the same importance.

We have online learning to complete before we start. Will probably find out at induction though.

Happy New Year everyone.  I'm sure this year will be a rollercoaster for us all :D

That's my resignation letter away now, too.  Scary!

Also we need to know 'courtesy' aha you could start memorising that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 180 ✭✭WittyName291

What are the list of definitions people have mentioned us needing to memorize?

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 T213a

I know for certain 'courtesy' is one, can't remember the other two. If you Google 'courtesy is an essential quality and one which smoothes many a path' it brings it up

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Homer01

Courtesy definition has now gone. You'll get them after induction. It's basically your powers and offences, not all but the main ones.

The big one to get started on is the caution.

If you're going to search online make sure they are NI specific as we are special and unique lol e.g the NI caution is ever so slightly different to the English caution. The meaning is the same but different wording.

Hope the shoes are all shined ladies and gents! Just flicking though one of the documents again. I’m reading it as we receive our district allocation at induction but won’t be allocated to a local policing team until after completion?

You get told your station week 21 or 22. Just before your Operational Competency Assessment

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭RedPool2891

Even the anticipation of finding out your district is exciting enough!  I think that's right, you'll get the district but not the LPT.

Nearly all ready to go - all I have to do is collect my suit from the dry cleaners and get my passport photographs.  Going to have to go through the welcome pack again as well to make sure I haven't missed anything.

    Love that Garnerville thread!

    From the Candidate guide
'In your first week at the college you will be introduced to Policing in the Community. You will have your first district visit where you will meet your new team and be introduced to the local area.'

Can’t wait. Only got my date 2 weeks ago. So bit behind. But running like mad every night to get the fitness up again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭RedPool2891

Don't go too mad! Can't have EVERYONE show me up 😂

Just catching up with SAS: Are You Tough Enough. The mind-set of them lads is something else. Although I’m quite sure we won’t have it a tenth as tough, physically anyway. Prepare yourself for the worst and all that!

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭RedPool2891

It's a great show - and quite often it's not the fittest who survive the longest.  There's a lot to be said for mental strength. Everyone has a breaking point but it's how you deal with it.  We should all be pretty resilient after this wait anyway!

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 T213a

Email through about classis this morning

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭RedPool2891

Yeah, seen that.  Very real now!  Can't wait to get going!

Has Anyone been able to start the next stage? I can't see anything

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭TheBearcop

Not yet was hoping to start it this weekend but hopefully we can get it going on Monday

  • Registered Users Posts: 81 ✭✭MayDupname

All went very quiet in here post induction. Have we all had the life scared out of us with the amount we've to cover?!

Looking forward to getting stuck in all the same.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 T213a

Yea I'm nervous about it all now haha.

Currently just doing next stage here now! Trying to make a dent in it but also trying to learn to make it easier down the line

  • Registered Users Posts: 81 ✭✭MayDupname

Yea me too, although nerves are to be expected. It's a huge career change. We earned our place so we're well fit for it!

I'm working my way though it here too exactly like you, hoping I can retain the info for further down the line. But I know for a fact there's going to be some late nights trying to get the learning to stick!

Without getting into dates can someone shoot me a PM as to what we will roughly get paid at the end of February?
