The way the championship is now set up and how Galway dealt with div 1b last year the national league now means jack sheet. Loads of opportunities to blood players so hopefully the management does that.

The league hasn't been worth anything for a while now, it's nice to win but it's a but it's a distraction coming up to the main event, the replay against Waterford really wasn't needed a few years back.

I'm liking Cleary full and McInerney centre back, I always thought Cleary wasn't mobile enough for centre back and Mc was wasted at full back. We really need options in the half forward line, even if it's just to win our own puck out we need some physicality. Tony Kelly should be kept away from the team until after St. Patrick's Day as well in my opinion

Cleary was outstanding at Centre back in the last Championship match clare played.
Solving the full back problem isn't going to be easy. Height is a major factor, and that's one issue. Pace is another one.

Would lack of mobility not be more of an issue at full back?

If it's just a case of holding position and stopping goals it wouldn't be as bad at full back as it would be at centre back. Lohan played an All Ireland final with 1 leg after all :D

Things have changed a hell of alot for full backs since those days - and whoever is playing FB wont have one of the greatest halfback lines ever in front of him.

I'd tend to agree. Cleary is slow to turn which for me means he's not suitable for full back. Would prefer if he was left at 6, did well there last year.

Agree with this. Also getting a player to switch to full back at intercounty level requires alot of coaching and development, its a very technical position where you need to be a clever/disciplined defender. I dont think Cleary has ever been anywhere else, except on the 40.

That said our back line needs to be retooled. Where just not producing the backs of old where we can rely on guys to shut down their markers. Backs like McInerney, Morey, Fitzgearld and Shanahan are all supreme sticksmen but its not good enough if your shipping 4 points a man. Teams seem to run up a high score too easily.

Also David McInerney's skill set is not maximised in the full back. I wonder would it be just best to play Patrick O'Conner there and just make sure he has some protection around him.

Really impressed by Clare's workrate and defensive structure today. I thought Conor Cleary really impressed once again, who knows could he be the man for the number 3 jersey come the league and championship? David Fitzgerald and David McInerney did very well also. Seadna Morey was outstanding in the 7 jersey in both defense and attack and got a few points also. In attack Peter Duggan took his 2 goals very well. David Reidy, Mikey O'Neill, Cathal Malone, Colm Galvin in the 1st half and Ryan Taylor all produced good performances. In general this was a very good team performance.

Cork looked very disinterested at times in particular at the end when they were just shooting for points and lacked a clear goal threat although much of that was more so down to good and honest workrate by the Clare lads.

More of that workrate and defensive structure please. Also it was great to see a Clare looking to score goals whenever the opportunity arose itself. A pleasing workout in truth for the Banner men. Limerick next week should be very interesting with both teams looking to prove a point after last year's disappointments in both league and championship.

Good to see a good score put up but cork are under new management and lets face it were fairly under strength today

In saying that I felt some of the cork fringe cork players were very poor given that this was a chance to put a marker down

From our point of view its good to see Duggan and deasy and malone all dominate the half forward line . Good to see Billy Connors get a run out too . Very promising prospect

    Clare scorers

    Peter Duggan 2-0,
    Cathal Malone, 1-2
    Niall Deasy 1-2
    Ian Galvin 0-3,
    Seadna Morey, 0-2
    David Reidy, 0-2
    Tony Kelly, 0-2
    Mickey O’Neill 0-2
    Billy Connors, 0-1
    Ryan Taylor 0-1

Some encouraging signs especially good to hear about solid defensive structure. I always felt Davy cheated by employing a sweeper, and not developing at backline to cope man on man with the six backs. Our attack as a result always struggled. As I said while Im not convinced Cleary has what it takes at 3, it's still a good idea to see what he can do in the position, I hope it works well, and he comes across as a good willing lad.

It's positive also to see new talent injected around the midfield and half forward line. I saw Ryan Taylor at U21 for Clare in the forward line and always thought he showed good skill and composure on the ball. But CQ definitely have it right in putting him at midfield. He could be a real find for us, he is excellent at running with the ball and has the stickwork and engine too for the position. He is off the back of an excellent club championship so it would be great if he could put his hand up for a starting role. It could get very competitive between 8-12, not a bad problem.

It should get competitive.between 8 and 12 there has been a number of guy's getting away with murder especially john conlon whos time is up in my b opinion . Podge will be lucky to gain a starting place too . Also Kelly has to come under question after both tipp and cork games last year but wont be dropped

The big news from a Clare GAA point of view this week, is in regards to the administration side of things. Simon Moroney, a Clareman and secretary of the Munster Council has stepped down in that role and his term will end on the 6th of May this year. There has been much speculation as to whether he will seek the role of GAA Director-General vacated by Padraic Duffy. He is currently giving an interview with Clare FM so we should know his future intentions.

Fair play to Clare. Ten Points down midway through the 1st half and were 3 ahead with 69 mins until Cork replied with 1-1 in the last moments to win by one. Great to see Eimhin Courtney showing up with an outstanding performance according to Peter O'Connell and goals from Keelan Sexton, Alan Sweeney and Gearoid O'Brien. Great to see. FT Cork 3-13 to Clare 3-12

    Cork 3-13 Clare 3-12

Good effort in defeat by the footballers were trailing 2-07 to 0-4 points before half time . A late keelan sexton goal before the break looked no more then an early consolation

But an Alan Sweeney goal at the start of the second brought the game back to life . When gearoid o brien hit the back of the net for clares 3rd major it put them 2 points up halfway through the 2nd

Clare maintained a lead of 3 points up the 70minute a late cork point and a goal by Stephen Sherlock had the rebels a point up and time up

Good work out all the same . Cork probably had more regulary out then we did and with several players likes of gearoid O'Brien alan Sweeney conor finnucane and eibhan Courtney continuing on with good form from colm collins men look to be in good shape heading into the league

    Scorers for Clare:
    E. Courtney 0-03
    G O'Brien 1-1
    C. Finucane 0-5 3f
    K. Sexton 1-1
    A Sweeney 1-0
    C. O’Connor 0-1
    D. Bohannon0-1

Apparently the team is not going to be introduced until just before throw in . Could make buying a program a waste of time tomorrow . Limerick look strong enough for this time of year though

    limerick 0-16 0-10 clare

normally i would play down these type of games this time of year , but one or two glaring admissions raised there heads in the clare colours again today , 30 minutes of second half hurling without a score , 17 wides and only 10 points scored and only 7 scores in total from play coincided with another jack browne sending off ,

ether it is davey fitz in charge or anyone else them stats are not good enough , had this happened under fitz he would have been hammered after such a display , management cannot allow for a repeat performance over the course of the year and players need to take a look at themselves , far too often we have been dumped out of championships with all of the above haunting us time and time again

to be fair limerick played well and are much further down the road then where we are at the moment heading into the league , Arron gillane was excellent and looks like a real prospect at this level , picked off some lovely scores and the performance of morriessy and barry o'connell will make a huge difference to limericks chances of getting out of division 1B this year

but form a clare point of view its same old problems rising there heads again , regardless the time of year these problems need to be fixed in order for us to challenge this year

    clare scores

    Cathal Malone 0-4,
    Cathal O’Connell 0-2 1f,
    Niall Deasy (0-1f),
    Podge Collins, 0-1
    Tony Kelly, 0-1
    David Reidy 0-1f

I'm afraid that St Flannans are being well beaten by a very impressive Tralee CBS. 3-13 to 1-5 in favour of the Kerry men midway through the second half. Damage limitation very much the essence for the Ennis school.
