Hey gals, quick question for ye, what do you think of the tesco digital pregnancy tests - good / bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭GaGa21

    Hi all,
If anyone is looking, I found the best price on fertility products with Inish free pharmacy. Based in Donegal but online and deliver. Hope that helps.

Another cycle start for me. Cycle 8 now since the miscarriage. The joys. Not looking forward to the start of December. On the plus side one of the major stresses in our life for the last year has been removed. The company my husband worked for finally went under and he has started a new job. Who knows. Maybe it will help

    Newlymrs I found the normal
Tesco tests excellent and very sensitive. I used them when trying for my first boy.
I used the first response ones (the early ones) when trying for my second and found them terrible! But people swear by them!! I had to wait ages for a result.

Mirrorwall best of luck next cycle. December was my lucky month last year :)

Never tried the digital. I use internet cheap stocks and usually take a first response or clear blue when I’m officially late. Digital are known to have a higher concentration required though so will take longer to register a positive than a bog standard dip stick

Cycle 9 seems to have started two days early. What a wonderful Christmas present at almost my expected due date. Bawled my eyes out but coping ok I guess. We’ve had some of the big discussions at this stage and since we have one I don’t really want to go into any major interventions. We’ll go get checked out at the end January as we’ll have been trying a year at that stage with just the one (GP was happy with that) but unless there’s something obviously fixable wrong we may just continue to NTNP for the next few years. If it doesn’t happen we’ll be happy with our little lad (not that we’ll forget what we lost)

Long time no post. So after 20 odd months of physio for what was suspected vaginismus I am now being referred to a hymenectomy (which was suggested as a possibility at the start and was actually my preferred option but it was decided physio should be exhausted first) as there is a structural issue that is causing the difficulty for me and OH! So fingers crossed 2018 will be our year! Its great to see the good luck stories here and as always sending hugs to everyone still hoping for their bfp!

Has anyone any experiences with Repromed? I'm torn between them and the Rotunda Private for IUI/IVF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭GaGa21

I haven't tried either but I have been recommended Repromed. I went to Merrion for tests and consult only and am looking to change to Repromed or Sims now for treatment. To be honest, I think these clinics seem to be more advanced than those attached to hospitals but that is only my opinion from research that I've done and the experience I have had so far.

Going anon for this as I'd rather not post here under my usual username - at least not yet!

Repromed is the only clinic that VHI will cover. We'd already gone to Rotunda IVF for initial tests when I discovered this. We haven't worked out the nitty gritty of price difference yet as we have a little while to decide on our next course of action (IVF or IUI) but I think on first glance when you take the tax back element into consideration, they are somewhat the same. If you can get tax back on a cost already partially covered by VHI (i.e. the portion they don't cover) then Repromed is less expensive.

That said, Rotunda IVF have been very lovely to deal with so far, very practical and reassuring and everything has been explained to us. In fact I just had a call from them there to check up to see how we're doing and if we have any questions or anything we need more info on. Now I know that was a bit of a "sales call" as well but it's nice to have the nurse on the other end of the phone, same nurse who took my bloods last time I was there.

I’m due to go in to my GP in January. Does anyone know how it works?

I’m due to go in to my GP in January. Does anyone know how it works?

Generally a referral to a gynae or fertility clinic. You can get bloods done with your GP, which is cheaper than a clinic. Day 3/Day 21 to begin with. I'd encourage anyone to ask for thyroid bloods too. Some clinics want TSH to be under 2.5, especially if recurrent miscarriages have occurred. A semen analysis is needed for your partner. A HSG can be requested as a public patient too, to see if your fallopian tubes are clear.

    Besta luck x

So I had two miscarriages in the space of six months. We have been trying for one year. I have a little girl who is two whom I conceived no problem-I know I'm lucky but I really want to give her a sibling. I went to the Beacon yesterday to see if they run any tests on me and the Dr wasn't really keen on it. He recommended to wait for three before running any. He said he would do them if I really wanted to but stated a lot of women have two miscarriages and then go on to have a healthy pregnancy-I just find it hard to believe that nothing is wrong and it's just bad luck.... I don't know what to do-do we try again or go for tests. I asked for a prescription for Progesterone but told me there was no real evidence that would help and was more mental security-he didn't give me one in the end. I'm just so disappointed with the appointment-it really wasn't what I hoped for and I'm just left with not knowing what to do

Hi, I just wanted to try to give you some hope. I’ve had 3 mc and am now 18 weeks pregnant without any intervention except progesterone and baby aspirin. I had basic testing done of mc no. 2 which I didn’t show up any problems. I was also on the progesterone and aspirin for Mc no. 3 but still misscarried.

There was nothing done differently for this pregnancy medically speaking, but I had just started going to accupuncture one a week for a couple of weeks before this pregnancy. That’s probably pure coincidence.

I went to a private consultant to get the progesterone after mc 2, I think I asked upfront before appointment if he presecibed it, if yours doesn’t, I would find one that doesn’t. I don’t know if it helps or not but where is the harm in trying. Once I had the initial prescription my gp would hen prescribe repeat prescriptions.

The maternity hospital kept me on it until 15 weeks on this pregnancy so they must see some value in it.

I had an appointment booked with a fertility clinic for further testing when I unexpectedly got pregnant this time so things really did just work out on their own this time, so far anyway. I’ve no idea why this one stuck while the others didn’t

Sorry to hear how things are now but try to stay hopeful xx

I'm thinking of using natural progesterone. Can I ask what your prescription was, i.e. when in your cycle? etc?

I was told to take it after ovulation and continue taking it until day 14. Stop after negative pregnancy test or if got my period.

Be careful to make sure you have definitely ovulated before starting it because I think it can delay ovulation if it take it beforehand.

My acupuncturist told me she thought it was supposed to be taken as soon as you get a BFP but I was told by the consultant to start right after ovulation, it’s too late once you get BFP.

Where can you get natural progesterone from?

I'm just out of the hospital after having my laparoscopy for endometriosis. I've got stage 4 :( My left ovary was stuck to the wall with so much endo but the surgeon managed to release it.

My tubes looked ok so fingers crossed 2018 is the year for me.

Health shops as far as I know. And online. I've read mixed reviews so I might ask doctor about progesterone prescription. I've stage 4 endo too, ovary hidden but no excision surgery due to bowel involvement. AMH and internal day 7 scan numbers fine but I think progesterone may be an issue as I don't seem to get a temp spike after ovulation. As endo is oestrogen dominant it makes sense that we may be low in progesterone.

I don't know what to expect from doc next week and just asking.thanks in advance

You may be prescribed progesterone to see if it helps with ovulation. You may also be referred to fertility clinic depending on your age and how long you have been ttc.

thank you for response. I'm 35 years old...ttc for nearly a year

Well the experts say try for a year if under 35 and 6 months over 35, then fertility tests should be looked at. Testing will include your partner so maybe go together? I would do some research on clinics that would suit your location and ask GP for a referral letter. Or skip GP and go directly to clinic yourself for testing. It will ease your mind and you will know the situation going forward.

Hi ladies, I have just finished reading pretty much all of this thread and hope ye don't mind me joining in!

Well first of all I have just realised how little I actually know but this thread has been so informative so thank you for that :)

So, I am 38 and just after coming off the pill after about 20 years on it so I'm kinda worried about how long it'll take my body to get back to normal. I got what I thought what was my first period since I came off it last Friday which would have been 3 days before it would have been due anyway but after doing some research it seems like that was only a withdrawal bleed and not an actual period so I don't know where I am at now. Anyone here have any experiences of coming off it after such a long time?

I am with my boyfriend just over a year and before him I never met anyone that I wanted to have children with and to be honest if anyone ever asked me if I wanted kids I was never too bothered either way. But now that I have found the right person and we chatted a good bit about it the last month or so I am after realising that this is what I want! I just hope I'm not after leaving it too late!

I am not gonna go down the road of temping or getting opk's yet until I know when I am back in a normal pattern and will decide then what to do.
For the meantime I am just gonna focus on trying to get healthier and lose some weight.

Wishing you all the very best of luck on this journey :)

As you are 38, experts recommend 6 months of trying and then look at assistance such as getting your AMH blood test and your partners sperm count done. I know that sounds full on but you won't believe how the time flys. The sooner you know about any issues, the better the success rate will be if you end up needing IVF. Getting healthy is good as the clinics will only work with women BMI 30 or lower. Start taking a multi vitamin with folic acid and iron.
If not using OPKs or temping etc, use the period tracker app or fertility friend app. These are great.
Get to know your cycle and when you are ovulating so you will have a better chance of success.
    Best of luck!

Take a multi Vitamin without Vitamin A. I made that mistake....

Thanks a million for the reply.
I suppose I can't really start counting the 6 months til my periods start back regularly but hopefully they won't take long.
Oh yes I did forget to mention that my doctor did prescribe me folic acid as I told her last month we were thinking of it so I am going to collect that this evening.
I have the Period Tracker app and downloaded Fertility Friend yesterday while reading this thread.
Hopefully my first proper period will come at the end of this month and I will know then that my cycle is back to normal and can start focusing on when I am ovulating then.
Good luck to you too Gaga, hope you aren't waiting much longer.
