I find it really good compared to the products I was using before. That price per tonne what are the ingredients of it? And is that price a cash price for so much tonne? And finally what product are you using at the moment?

The last pallet of powder I bought on price but it’s shyte. I’ll look later and post the name. I think it’s Italian with 15% skim and 18% protein. Was cheap enough at €1200/t.

The Elvor is €1687/t + vat and I think it’s the same as yours.
When I was talking to the Elvor salesman he told me that they’ve a product now for fattening calves for veal and he’ll get back to me on the price, but he implied that it’s pricey.

Big dose of the pre calving "fear" here this morning ...gates , milk replacer and disinfectant all on the agenda.
Took a delivery of straw before Christmas, reckon that triggered it :)

    Fear or panic?

    Fear or panic?

    Pre match tension.
Akin to checking the boots are in the bag for the umpteenth time .
This morning was like throwing in the spare pair of laces .

Yep, never ending. We do find it easier than doing it over a couple of months. Therefore, same regime every day, never stops, never goes away...

Another local trained into the parlour, and says he'll be around in the evening times in Feb for heifers calving. Off to find myself a few more incalf heifers now.

    Many available?

I still can't get my head around calving all the cows in a few weeks. Yes I'm at nothing milking a few for the winter with no contract and your never finished breeding or calving and probably losing out on some milk off grass and some profit. But what good is all the extra money if I end up in a darkened room , curled up in the featal position, sobbing and muttering to myself.

I end up in that dark room regardless of compact calving or not ha :p. I'm happy enough if these extra cows made me no extra money after paying for labour if it affords me more time off during the year. I get a 5yr itch at most jobs I do ha, 6 years tipping away full-time at just dairying here now, got a few other directions I could go if I can have someone in part time alot more regularly.

Doing reasonably well on the relief milkers front, had 4 lads to call on before now, but none were able to commit to the spring (with college /placement etc). No end of heifers still available, apparently alot of lads in the Midlands waiting till Feb to buy for fear of shortage of fodder.

I personally enjoy it and get a great kick out it all.
Find if much easier now with compact calving than 5 years ago with calves every age and drying cows off all the time

    Everyone to they're own.

Tanker driver was rambling glanbia are bringing in pretty nice bonouses for Nov to Feb supplies next year I'll believe it when I see it in print but it makes sense to spread out the milk intake and might mean they haven't to go dropping a 100 odd million on extra driers every two years going forward

That the one you can't avail of if your already in liquid or winter? But yeh I'll belive it when I see it, still loads of lads like yourself happy enough to pump out the milk over the winter without any bonus, why would Glanbia need to pay extra :p

I think its to replace the current winter milk scheme. First priority is being given to current contracted suppliers who already have a contract. Not sure if it will be open to other suppliers unless current autumn calvers dont take it up. U may have to show proof of calving in autumn as well to be eligible for it.

They'd want to be announcing it soon so, so lads could get their animals in calf for then

I know on a fools errand, 120 thousand litres sent in Nov/Dec will total 45k and 7 grand of meal went in sure where would a lad be going

Just winter scheme. Depending on uptake we can possibly get contracted for more.
