Part of me would like Lucy Mallon to be behind the cult story line!

I often feel with all the script writers in Fair City it ends up a little like a game of Chinese whispers!

Very true. Sometimes you actually need a bit of dictatorship and someone calling the shots.

Ideal time for her to turn up! Apart from leading it she's ideal cult material and hopefully she'll be allowed talk:D

Miriam's storyline to me is just another example of Fair City's inability to manage long term storylines. Like the 2 most recent examples before it, Dermot/Paul etc and the Katy kidnapping; it just meanders on and gets more ridiculous as it goes, and the revolving door of writers involved only serve to introduce mass contradictions and continuity errors.

I was sure Kerri Ann would end up in it and as part of her fertility treatment she'd be 'erecting' phallus like statues all over Decco's house:D Kinda like the gift the Cuban priest brought Fr. Ted that brought the Cuban lad a lot of 'luck':)

Spot on. Is it the multitude of script writers or just plain bad management to see a job through properly.. I think the later, with the former not helping.

Very true. With so many writers, long term storylines can lack consistency when writers 30-46 take over from 1-30 and theres no one definite theme running through it. When Katy was first kidnapped, the cell seemed like a sinister steel fortress and by February it turned into a shed with a roof you could easily break through! When this cult story started it really felt like it had potential- you had several vulnerable characters agreeing to this naïve and scam-like mindset, it could have gone places.

I still like the storyline but I don't think the current plot was ever in the original blueprint- its like some random producer said "No no our audience wouldn't be able for a cult that preys on modern fears and mental illness for the purposes of spreading an evil message.". In our PC-mad world you cant open your mouth anymore for fear of offending gay, straight, alien, human, foreign, or animal species so I'm not surprised the cult story is getting diluted, albeit its still disappointing. I mean, do they really think months and months of Damien being a thug and tucking in his neck or Kerri Ann boring the whole country with her Raymond bolloxs is actually an entertaining alternative. Jesus, FC, show some balls for once.:rolleyes:

I agree, in fact it's time we get someone here on the inside. Is anyone here in the TV business? Get in as a writer and we'll come up with the plots ourselves :D

Paul was married to Nicola and while she was pregnant with Oisin, he had a fling with Helen which resulted in her getting pregnant with Rachel.

Then when Yvonne was pregnant no-one knew who the Daddy was until she was marrying Connie and it came out that it was Paul.

There was also the Christy - Louis - Carol and baby Jack's paternity..

Then there was Harry - Dolores - Frank and baby Jessica's paternity.

Wasn't there some ambiguity over the paternity of Shannon Dowling as well? Was Dean her half brother or her Daddy?

From memory, the FIRST who's the Daddy storyline involved Barry O'Hanlon and his then wife Linda and the bould Bela Doyle. The baby - Alice - later died.

Paul had a rival in the "most fertile man in Ireland" stakes when Brendan Daly got his wife (Heather) and his secretary (Deirdre) pregnant at-same time with Eleanor and Ben respectively.

I'm sure there's been another few...

Keeping up traditions but Kerri-Ann will be even more insufferable than usual.:(
Wasn't there a hint of suspicion that Neasa Dillon might be Lukes not Tommys? I digress...

Praying the won't do a hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) storyline with Kerri Ann she's definitely bad enough without that!

I know Decco is far from the sharpest tool in the box but he's been away so surely he must know it can't be his!

Jaysus Mondo is turning into Paul Brennan at this rate - he only has to look at a girl and she gets pregnant!!!!

So where are we now regarding the gruesome murder of Paddy Bishop?
Well, obviously Decco knows that Charlotte killed her dad, and left him dying bloodlessly on the sofa.
And her mother and Zoomo knows. And her Gran.
And presumably Decco would have mentioned it to Kerri-Anne in the throes of their love - making at some stage.
We know that Katie knows all about it.
As indeed does the entire Brennan family, from Paul down to Ruthie.
And award - winning journalist Nina sniffs suspiciously around occasionally.
Curiously, Doctor Oakley - Doakiey somehow found out.
And my grandmother, now in her nineties, keeps asking awkward questions too.....

Dermot is only the second person in irish history to be kept in jail this long without trial, graham dwyer was the other person.

I'm thinking of starting up a protest group to liberate Dermot. Maybe involving Amnesty International.
I've already made my poster.
"Free the Carrigstown One".

Where did all that money ever end up? Is it still resting in someone's account?

I'm so sick of Kerry Ann

Inviting Mondo and Melanie to her Christmas party after all the trouble she caused them, is she mentally ill that she doesn't she anything wrong in this?

"I know you killed your daddy" fcuking evil bastard! Oakley makes my skin crawl, the scenes with him and Charlotte are actually genuinely uncomfortable to watch, credit to the writers tonight. And the real question is, when Manson finds out, I suspect shes not going to do a thing, Manson is as bad as Oakley, even though he is taking the spotlight right now. Very good story I must say.

After seeing that the scene between Dough and Charlotte, it looks like Charlotte is double bluffing, is she?

I'm starting to think that there is no ''cult'' storyline and never was; that it was all a device to introduce Oakley, as it's basically a Miriam vs Oakley storyline. The cult aspect, I think, was just to throw viewers off the scent, and was - quite possibly - the initial idea of the writers/producers, but they changed their minds when they came up with what they believed a better storyline. Yeah, I think some bad things will happen, but not because of anything remotely ''cultish'' - all casualties will be a result of the Miriam/Oakley (one-sided at the moment) feud. Thats just my revised opinion, based on the past couple of episodes. :)

It shouldn't be too much for the general public to do a decent cult storyline.

At the moment Manson looks more like Christina Gallagher of the House of Prayer! You can watch below. Basically she has beautiful houses in the UK and here and took loads of donations. Few other ones in it too. Just shows how full of 'cults' Ireland is!

I thought she reminded me of someone! :D

Who was the baby? Was it Rachel or Oisin?
I'm sure my mam will know, she's been watching it from the start. :)

I think Rachel (Helen's child) arrived before Oisin. (I always thought Helen was a lovely character and I don't think Fair City was the same when she left it. Hannah Finnegan (r.i.p) and all those real Dubs brought something special to the show).
Thanks for that. I watched that anniversary special first episode of FC and the characters and sets seemed a hell of a lot more realistic than they are now. And I couldn't get over Charlie's accent. Also, I liked his best mate Paddy, did the actor who played him leave or pass away?

David Koresh and Charles Manson clash!

Demo, the baby ain't going to know it's Christmas day... My hackles raise when parents fight over "Christmas Day" access, like, the baby /child won't be traumisied coz they're mother/father weren't around.

Charlie Roberts is the name of the actor who played Paddy Clarke in Fair City in those days. The actor died in 2005.

Saw the Christmas trailer there - mostly predictable but part intriguing (can't do spoiler tags on my phone so I won't mention specifics) and thankfully nothing cult (as it's being called) related which is a relief cos it's been dominating things for too long without any rhyme or reason or development

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭braxen5

Why did Oakley become a doctor? What a creep! I wouldn't be able to stay in the same room as him.

The actor plays him well though. Very convincing villain.

Is Oakley worse than Miriam? I can't figure that out. I do agree with you that there is no cult storyline apparent. Not the Manson family but more a battle of power between Miriam & Oakley. Where exactly are they heading to is not clear. Why is Oakley picking on Charlotte and not some other member?

How to shut down the cult in one step, just ring the council and tell them Eoghan has about 12 people living in the house

Nicola was pregnant with Oisin when Paul had the fling with Helen which resulted in Rachel so unless Nicola had a very long pregnancy and Helen had a very short one Oisin is a bit older!
I think Callum made reference to it a while ago whole arguing with Oisin that he was now the first born.

By my calculations and recollections which may be hazy (not 100% accurate) Callum was born March 1995, Oisin was born late 1995 or 1996 ish. Rachel did her leaving cert in 2015 which meant she was probably born max 18 years before that which would be 1997 so possibly Callum 1995, Oisin 1996 and Rachel 1997 and Ruth was a 2010s child so is probably 6 or 7.

Need to head off and get a life now
