Hey guys looking for a recommendation please, up in CUMH for the next 3/4 days with herself so wondering is there anywhere nice walkable.

The places I know of are hi-burger, subway, four star, Abra kebabra, the two greasy spoons in Wilton SC, Costa, Wilton pub & Restaurant.

I know a bit further afield is Ramen and Zambero but that's a bit of a trek.

Looking for something other than fast-food and not a roast dinner. Anything different around that I haven't heard about.

Gallo and Galletti is a very nice Italian restaurant just across from cuh.

That has been mentioned here before as, the best in town, good pick.
Follow up review here, obligatory, ha.

Just home from a beyond bad dinner in Restaurant Rossini.... it was possibly the worst meal out ever! I know staff are under pressure at this time of year, but they were so rude. We were due to eat at 7pm and got our starters at 9pm!

Such a horrible place - would avoid!

thats shocking - ate there twice - terrible on the first occasion - poor on the 2nd - will never go back - dunno how is suppose to be one of cork finest longest standing italian restaurants

The Italian Gallo & Galetti across the road from the hospital is quite nice

If you walk out the back gate of the hospital, The Rendevouz bar is roughly a 10 minute walk from the CUMH.

Well, if ramen is too far to walk, I don't think this will be acceptable.

Fully agree. Highly inflated prices for mediocre to bad Italian food.
Maybe people like the atmosphere. Or the other choices for Italian are not much better.

    Not any more it isnt.
It used be one of my favourite restaurants in Cork many years ago but a few disappointing meals there never made me return which is a shame.

I just realised it’s neither a restaurant or in cork city...oh well!

You're so right - it was a work do- so we all sat there like lemons sipping water:rolleyes:

It was expensive too...€45 a head!

    Anyway, lesson learned!

I tried Wow Burger yesterday (old wagamamma's location).
American diner interior-all red and yellow.
    Nice, soft bun.
Good choice of classic toppings - all included in price. GRILLED MUSHROOMS, GRILLED ONIONS, RAW ONIONS, JALAPEÑOS, LETTUCE, TOMATO, PICKLES
KETCHUP, MAYO, BBQ SAUCE, HOT SAUCE, WOW BURGER SAUCE.
    I just had the hamburger.
Comes as two thin patties rather than one thick one - I like that.
    Cooked to order.

Unfortunately, though, I won't be back. The meat just isn't tasty. It could be because the patties are slightly overcooked and a bit hard and dry or maybe they are too lean. It could be that the meat used just isn't that tasty.
Whatever the reason, I didn't really enjoy it.
Very much a personal thing but I found the pickles to be far too strong tasting of dill.

For the occasional burger indulgence, it's still Bunsen for me and I'm happy to pay €1 more for a hamburger. (€5.95 in Wow.)

I'd love to taste a Bunsen burger cooked as two patties. I'll have to get to know a chef in there.

Standard carry on for that place, any time I went(dragged) there it was the same.

I passed their last week and wanted to stop on my way home but didn't have time. Is it the place with the big "wood fire pizza" sign your on about?

Ya that’s it! Pizza was gorgeous, there was no room inside, but picnic benches outside that were covered over, the staff for very obliging and really couldn’t do enough for us. Really recommend it.

Well city folk journey out to the hinterlands esp at the weekend and can end up being hungry, with the country air.
Toonsbbridge is nice, owned by Toby Symmonds. Restaurant 57 and Granvilles in Macroom very nice too.

Is it on the Killarney side,I can't place it?

No. Turn off the N22 at Harnett's Cross. On the road to Inchigeelagh, once you go over Toon's bridge. Weekends only, I think.

Got takeaway from Bao Boi today. Duck Spice bag, Chicken spice bag, Beef bao and Asian slaw. The chips were soggy and lacking in flavour, I found one piece of chicken in mine and my partners duck version was equally sparse. The portion size was also incredibly small, it was presented in a burger box. The beef bao was also tiny, meat was nice but definitely not worth 5.50. Will not be returning

Piano bar at Rachels. What’s it like in there?
Not eating but thinking of going for couple drinks Saturday night. How much are the cocktails & is it likely to be busy?

I think the cocktails are fixed price at €12. I ordered off-menu last time and that's what I was charged. I was only there mid-week, so don't know what it's like at the weekend, but I'd imagine MOST people there would just be in for a drink before dinner and wouldn't be staying long. But it's a nice, classy spot! I like it.

Went last night & nice spot alright. Good place to sit & chat, without blearing loud music etc...
    Must try restaurant soon.

    Hi,

2 nights in Cork coming up. I'm from Cork but living away for ages so looking for recommendation.
Firstly a tapas restaurant for 4-6 people, want to spend some time catching up & picking at food. Ideally somewhere that the tapas come out when ready and not all together. Nice as well would be a place that has a glass cabinet showing tapas- NOT a deal breaker.

Secondly a place for BBQ food- ribs, corn, chicken wings etc. I know there's a relatively new place on the Dyke but don't know how good it is or other places.

    Cheers,
    Pa.

    Cask for tapas
    And
Holy smoke for BBQ can be recommended

Thanks. Phoned Cask for Dec 30th but they don't take booking which is annoying if trying to plan ahead.

Is there any actual tapas place in Cork?

I know Cask is recomended but they are more like starters and prices at 7 - 8 euro a dish minimum I assume. Arthur Maines is the same.

L'attitude 51 does tapas, went there a few weeks ago and it was lovely.
There is Tedos..never been there myself, heard the tapas are nice but the service is a bit rushed
