Bao Boi. Nipped in on the way home from work last night to give it a go.
    Here's the website.  http://www.baoboi.ie/
They were sold out of a couple of things, the Fish Bao and something else I can't remember. We tried the pork Bao and the black pudding bao. Also had the duck spice bag and tried the Young buck black garlic dirty fries.. All and all, food is nice. The black pudding bao was tasty, had a nice crispy deep fried egg in there, soft in the middle, very good. Bacon wasn't crispy though.
Pork Bao was  v good and the spice bag with duck was delicious. Would go back for that alone
The garlic fries, tasty homemade chips, nice garlic sauce, but holy money they were defo not worth 5.90. They were a small chips with garlic sauce. Small chips is 2.50 euro, why the heck is the garlic mayo 3.40?

We felt it was very expensive for what we got there anyway.

Looking forward to trying Bao Boi, now that I have a couple of recommendations for dishes! What is a spice bag? As in what else is in there apart from duck?

I was at 12 Tables in Douglas this week, and while I really enjoy the food in there (my kinda chips - skinny and well done!) the service was woeful. The waitresses were inefficient, and we had to ask for everything...ketchup, coffee, etc, instead of being asked.

Also my dining companion waited an extra 10 min for his lunch after I got mine, with no apology or anything. Same happened with dessert...it arrived when his coffee with almost gone. Something that really grinds my gears when I'm eating out.

It would definitely make me think twice before going back, especially when you are on a limited lunch time and you don't want to spend half the time distracted while trying to attract the attention of the waiting staff all the time.

Looking for somewhere to go for breakfast/brunch on Christmas Eve. My usual brunch spot, The Weir Rooms, isn't serving food because the hotel is closed, so I'm a bit stuck.
Scoozies aren't taking reservations and I'm not sure if Liberty Grill is open, no one picked up when I rang.
I was considering booking 12 Tables, but if the service is that poor I won't bother because it'll be hectic enough without adding that to the occasion.
There will just be 2 of us, we aren't interested in a lengthy drawn out meal, just somewhere to get a nice quick brunch.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Preferably in Douglas/Town.

    How about Arthur Maynes? http://www.corkheritagepubs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Christmas-Brunch-Menu-2017-Website.pdf

They are open Sat and Sun for brunch normally, but Liberty are never open on Sundays so probably not open Xmas eve.

Hello all. This might be a bit of topic, but as it relates to food perhaps someone may be able to help. I'm looking for corn tortillas and am having difficulty finding them where I live ( Killarney). Does anyone know if there is any place that sells them in Cork city? Ta,

Is it some kind of special corn tortilla you are looking for because I bought the Old El Paso ones in Dunnes yesterday. I would have thought they would have them in Killarney?

most tortillas sold here are flour.

phater phagan - I would try the cooking forums. I cook a lot of Mexican food and have never seen corn tortillas anywhere.

The ones I have say corn on the front and are made with corn flour so I’m assuming they are corn.

    Most are wheat.
    For corn, Tesco.

They also have them in mr bells in the market.

Also, for larger mexican ingredient orders ancho, corn (and blue corn), adobo etc and the more obscure chilis etc I order from https://www.coolchile.co.uk/

Spice bag is a take away thing. Chips, onions, peppers and some meat, usually chicken covered in a spice mixture.

I had brekkie in the Bramley Lodge the other day, fab menu, I should have taken a picture.
The service was great and the food was delicious, I had a full breakfast, two sausage, two rashers, black and white pudding with a portobello mushroom, tomato, toast and coffee.
Can't complain, was lovely, great atmosphere as well.

Went to White Rabbit for dinner today and very happy with it, again.

Had mushrooms on toast cause the smoked mushrooms they do make me weak in the knees, and a mac and cheese that was perfectly fine. Friends had nachos with beef and pork, they were really pleased with their food too.

Ya it’s good, been a few times. Tried a couple of the egg dishes, French toast & porridge with berrys. All nice.

You could also order from Picado Mexican, a shop run by a Mexican lady in Dublin. Lots of other ingredients available also.

Piano bar at Rachels. What’s it like in there?
Not eating but thinking of going for couple drinks Saturday night. How much are the cocktails & is it likely to be busy?

I hear that it's an ancient recipe from Taipei

Love White Rabbit. Genuinely surprised more people don't talk about it, great food.

I got the impression from someone that they didn't have an alcohol license in White Rabbit. Is that true? Is there beer or wine available? That's the only reason I've never been there.

They have a very extensive bar. Full bar, including huge range of craft beers, whiskeys, etc.

In fact, event the BBQ sauce is made from Mi Daza stout :p

The brunch is always delicious too and the brisket is one of the nicest things I've ever eaten in the city.

I think the cocktails are fixed price at €12. I ordered off-menu last time and that's what I was charged. I was only there mid-week, so don't know what it's like at the weekend, but I'd imagine MOST people there would just be in for a drink before dinner and wouldn't be staying long. But it's a nice, classy spot! I like it.

    Just back from Bao Boi.

I got the beef bao, they're bloody tiny! The promo pics I saw show two Baos together, so I thought I'd get two for the €5.50.

You get one little midget burger for €5.50. So just to prepare yourselves I would say you'll need to spend at least €15 there to get a good feed. Maybe two baos and some chips would do it.

The beef bao was a bit boring. There was supposed to be pickles and wasabi in it but I couldn't really taste it. Barely any fillings. The meat itself was yum though.

I think I'll give it one more go, but eat in this time. I may have made a mistake by getting it to go. The chef would probably give a bit more TLC to the thing if I ate in.

Well that's a tad disappointing. They do seem quite pricey, especially the garlic chips. Which is fair enough I suppose, if the quality is good.

I went there earlier as well, food is delicious but portions are small. I got four buns, spice bag and garlic chips for 31 quid. I split the food with two others and we all felt we could do with another bit to eat. I'll go back again but at those prices it's more a treat than anything else.

I had dinner in Nando's later in Opera Lane. It was lovely, their new menu has some lovely wraps.

Also went to Bao Boi today, got two buns and shared some fries with a friend. I felt full after, but not overly so.

The buns were delicious, especially a black pudding one which had a generous slice of black pudding, 2 thick slices of belly bacon and an egg. Loved it. The sticky pork bun was more pork belly, nice and tender with iceberg, kimchi and sriracha, really good.

The dirty fries weren't really my thing as they came with blue cheese mayo and it was real heavy on the blue cheese. Very feety. :p

Paid about €15, not unusual for lunch I'd say.

Just home from a beyond bad dinner in Restaurant Rossini.... it was possibly the worst meal out ever! I know staff are under pressure at this time of year, but they were so rude. We were due to eat at 7pm and got our starters at 9pm!

Such a horrible place - would avoid!

I went to Bao Bai last night too.
I just had the confit duck spice bag. Reasonable amount of food for €7, I thought.

It was very tasty but a tad salty for my liking.

Hey guys looking for a recommendation please, up in CUMH for the next 3/4 days with herself so wondering is there anywhere nice walkable.

The places I know of are hi-burger, subway, four star, Abra kebabra, the two greasy spoons in Wilton SC, Costa, Wilton pub & Restaurant.

I know a bit further afield is Ramen and Zambero but that's a bit of a trek.

Looking for something other than fast-food and not a roast dinner. Anything different around that I haven't heard about.
