Anyone try Tequila Jacks yet? Recommended?

I usually go to Cafe Mexicana when in Cork but wondering should I try Tequila Jack;s instead? (you've guessed I'm a big mexican fan)

I'd recommend it, went once and had the quesadillas, they were fab. Definitely worth giving it a go. I'd say it's probably a little more expensive than Cafe Mexicana though.

Went there yesterday. Not a huge fan of portobello mushrooms but have to say it was very nice! Only thing that annoyed me was the burger was served with a very blunt knife so couldn't cut it properly. A steak knife would be better.

As in the portobello mushroom needed a steak knife?
Cause any other type of burger needing a steak knife sounds like trouble...
I bitch if you need a steak knife with a steak... 😀

Yes, the mushroom burger. The knife provided had about as much sharpness as a butter knife. I had to cut it a few times and the whole thing fell apart! Any other burger place I’ve been to have much sharper knives.

    What was wrong with them?

You really have to go out of your way to make a pizza bad.

Had many in the ballincollig sliced and always decent.
Very bland and the base very dry.

Why would you use a knife on a burger?

I find it easier to eat when it's chopped in half if there are lots of toppings in it. Jayzus lads is it really that weird that I wanted a sharp knife with my burger! :o

had brunch in Felini's and would not recommend it.. 20 mins before our order was taken - my food was brought out 10 mins before my +!'s... I had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs but it was more scrambled eggs with a sliver of smoked salmon - had to ask for more... coffee's were served after food... no fault of the floor staff - i waiter for the whole place.. no excuse for meals being served separately - couldn't enjoy food served like that - good for bad... pity - it has all the makings of a good restaurant

So Wowburger will be opening a restaurant in Cork now it seems. Never heard of them but I guess they might move into the Wagamamas spot.

Went to Sliced for the first time. Pizza was okay, nothing to rave about and there are nicer pizzas in the city for less. Also, you had to slice it yourself which I thought was funny.

Wedges were as if they were Green Isles finest, ate maybe two. Decor is nice, staff are nice. Won't be back.

The wedges were like they came from someone else's plate.

Hey guys looking for a recommendation for good eggs Benedict in Cork city please.

I went on someone's recommendation before about the Parlour which was beautiful but I prefer bacon as opposed to almost gammon steaks under the eggs.

I know someone said Tara's tearoom before but I'm at the Grand parade top of Patrick's street direction where I'm getting a bus from later so it's a bit of a trek.

    Thanks.

Liberty grill on Washington St and the Crawford Gallery Cafe near the Opera House are nice and not too far from you.

Thanks very much, tried the liberty before which was good but took an absolute age to get served, I eventually had to go upto the counter myself and ask for a menu, then after another ten minutes I had to go to the counter to place my order.

Food was good though, the Crawford never even crossed my mind for food so I'll give it a go and report back.

Salt on the Blackrock road does good egg dishes. Not a lot of room but there is covered/heated area at the back.

I didn't want to be ungrateful but ya that's a bit of a walk alright.
Heard a lot about Salt though so been meaning to try it for awhile.
Maybe on the way back from the Blackrock farmers Market Sunday morning.

Hop on the 202, it stops at the door.
I'm a fusspot about eggs benny. I don't like liberty grills actually, not mad about their hollandaise, no flavour off it, I suspect it's an imposter rather than the real deal. Ali's Kitchen would be the spot I go to for it. Actual hollandaise, it's on sourdough. Full disclosure, it's proper baked ham there they use, not a rasher.
Other good place for it in the city is The Weir Rooms (River Lee hotel). They do a great brunch, and that room on the river is lovely.
I like Cafe Velo too, but they go a bit mental and have asparagus in their eggs benny, I'm sure they could drop the asparagus for you. It's an english muffin, and rashers.

The Bookshelf on south mall does an Eggs Royale... also good. Not bacon obvs.

Sorry for the delay, had a hectic day but luckily I had a good start thanks to the recommendation of the Crawford Art Gallery cafe,

The eggs Benedict were some of the best I've had and I'm not exaggeration, the poached eggs were pure perfection, a lovely creamy not overly salted hollandaise sauce, crispy streaky bacon "but not the really thin stuff" on top of two golden brown pieces of sourdough, all in for €8:50.

If I were to be overly picky I could have done with either one more slice of sour dough or just two bigger ones and also the tea and coffee not being included is a massive bugbear of mine like I've mentioned before.

It actually makes no sense, they have a full Irish in which you can get poached eggs and sour dough toast, bacon, sausages, black and white pudding, orange juice AND tea or coffee for €10:50 whereas I paid €10:70 for my eggs Benedict plus tea?

Anyway it's a minor niggle that the quality of the food outshaddowed.

Went to Milanos last weekend for some quick grub and about 10mins after being shown to our seats and waiting to order, I was checking how far Il Padrion was as a walk, having seen it mentioned here loads of times.

Ended up staying and didn't enjoy it. Milanos is one of those places you could describe as 'Meh, it is what it is' - paint by numbers Italian food. But I really didn't notice any quality for what you were paying. It's not very expensive but it's not cheap either.

Granted they were busy but their service was relatively poor from the get-go, I noticed I wasn't the only person getting slightly agitated by the service. The way they handle walk ins is also fairly poor - stand there by the door until I call you basically, there was no idea given of wait time etc. everything just seemed disjointed from the off.

Next time it's Il Padrinos - won't be returning to Milanos

I know Il Padrinos gets a bad rap here but its one of my favourites in Cork. I find the food delicious and the service consistently good. Its lovely for a treat. They do some gorgeous pasta dishes that are a bit more "exotic" than the standard bolognese/carbonara most places do.

On the other hand, I'd rather eat McDonalds than Milanos. Its muck, and extortionately priced for what it is. The service isn't great either.

Milanos it's a chain what else do you expect ?. Nandos the same. All they are is basic food at crazy prices.

Also I was in the USA for 2 weeks and all I can say is food over there is shocking compare to here. Notting over there tastes like food. It looks fantastic tastes like crap it just does not add up over there

And from the 2 weeks I did not realise how much I missed food that tastes like food. Even my lunch from dukes a basic chicken and ham samdwitch tastes 10 times better then the 15 usd take away samdwitch I had in the US!!!!.

One thing I learned from traveling all over bad food in Ireland is still better then good food in some country's.

But hands down the worst meal in my life was in Russia in a fine dining place. Only good thing about it was the vodka ha

It may just be our taste and what we are used to, but Irish food is generally of a very high standard. Eaten in some of the best restaurants in the USA, Dubai, Europe, and a good meal here would be my preference.

The US has great food for stuffing your face, but it's very unhealthy and after a few days you feel like crap.

Do people not find Il Padrinos crazy pricey? That’s what puts me off the place. A pasta dish should be no more than €13-14

Havent been in Il padrino in years and only ever ate there twice. On both occasions I ate there I felt ill next morning. Not sure if it was what I ordered was bad or certain dishes I ordered just wasn't for me but it certainly left me feeling bit short changed with the prices I had to pay.

Where in the US were you? I wouldn’t be tarring the whole country with the same brush. I’ve had a ton of good meals in NY but would never go to a restaurant without checking out the reviews on Yelp or Trip Advisor.

    On the west coast.

And yes I was looking at reviews before I went there.

But in the USA they are after food that looks perfect every veg has to look the same and same as the chicken beaf you name it. So to do this they need pump up every Thing with extremely bad stuff. Then I mean everything over there has suger in there food.

When I was there 95% of meet just does not taste of what it should have tasted like. I was eatting food confused and it's all so extramly costly for what you get there as well and Ireland is a bargin for food compare to the USA.

When i got back to Ireland the amount of food I had over a week was nuts. As everything tasted like food !!!!.
