I wish I could find a dent man tbh, thats my problem. Living abroad and I''m likely to get some massive OTT attempt for big money.
I'll need to make some more enquiries.

Regarding the auto climate, when I throw it on it has AC on, how does this work if set to say 22C?

I also notice it doesn't feel as warm as if I had it set manually and pointing to me.

I'll need to have a better read of the manual. The GF likes to be warm and it seems to be a lot quicker if pointing at you rather than auto?

Just noticed you can buy a manual S3 Sportback for €49,260
    Or a manual R for €46,250

Only €3k difference for the more 'premium' car, plus estate car practicality.

They don't seem to be offering the standard S3 hatchback for some reason.

Just surprised the price differential isn't a few k more.

I'd say if you were to spec the Audi to the VW's level, the gap would be a fair bit wider.

^^^ What spec does the vanilla R have that the vanilla S3 doesn't?

Indeed it would! More bang for your buck with the VW all though pricing around to change next year and a new A4 S line with Auto and few bits was considerably cheaper than a Superb Style!

I'm not overly familiar with latest Audi specs but last time I looked I thought they were miserable and even mean in some areas. E.g. Not sure about the S3, but I know for sure that a 40k S-Line doesn't even have auto dimming mirror / auto lights or climate control.

The S3 is definitely missing 19's and Adaptive cruise (both very pricey options) and stuff that's fairly cheap on the VW (camera, nav) are very pricey on the Audi too.

The Audi tax applies heavily. Met paint on a Golf - 650 ish. Audi is 1100.

A few highlights from the S3 configurator of stuff that's standard in the Golf (approx numbers):

    - 19's - just shy of 3k (but does include adaptive chassis)
    - Adaptive cruise - 720
    - Reverse camera - 650
    - Digital dash - 500
    - front parking sensors - 530
    - folding door mirrors - 320
    - LED ambient lights - 270

That's nearly 6k, and there's probably (definitely) more.

It's mad to think a car that expensive doesn't have power mirror or ambient lighting! I noticed the same thing when speccing the Golf Vs A3, Golf Highline was somewhere around €6k cheaper I think, €37k on a 1 litre A3 no thanks!

I find the interior of the newer Audi's to be awful, gaudy looking round vents and the tack on tablet looking screen...seems VW is one of the few keeping their infotainment nice and flush. Just personal opinion though.

Had a little play with the Audi builder there too. I like those S3 saloons, but jesus the extras as you say are big money. They start at about 50k, and tick all the boxes and that becomes 78k.

You have to pay Audi €60 for rear mats in the S3, luckily front mats are standard, they're nice like that!

Hey, not a GTI/GTD/R, but just wondering if people here know what an E-40 Golf is? See one for sale here for what seems like a very good price. Thanks.

Edition 40. Not to be confused with a Clubsport E40. It’s a special edition based on a Comfortline they did a couple of years ago. Some nice extras on it if I recall like a pano roof and tan leather.

I think Audi are doing a lowish rate on the A/S3 now but not as low as volkswagen.
I’m pretty sure the range will be replaced in the next year or so too.
Also when you go to trade back the extras on the Audi won’t have much residual value.
The four rings on the grille are standard which is important to some people.

So the GTE is a lot of fun to drive, I didn't realise there was a €5k SEAI grant on PHEV so it's a little closer to GTI money.

Sure hybrids are heavier and have smaller batteries due to two drivetrains but it's a little more frugal at the end of the day while still being quick. Flooring it and still got better economy than my 1 litre. Maybe something to consider down the line :)

Hey all, going to view this car https://m.carzone.ie/used-cars/Volkswagen/Golf-E-40-1.4TSI-D7F-5DR-150HP/8379860567457710766 Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? Thanks.

Looks nice and well specced. Plus its the 150bhp 1.4 which I'd have any day over the 1.2. Just make sure you get the full 12 month warranty with it if you go for it. Also, check service history to make sure everything's in order (mileage, regular oil changes etc).

Anyone with a GTI/D (or highline, etc) that doesn't have a factory alarm - you might be interested in this. One of the guys on autostadt.ie is offering a factory OEM alarm install, all in for 150 euro. I think he's offering it at this low price as it'll be the first time he's doing it and he wants to develop a "template" for future installs. You wouldn't get the parts for anywhere close to this money...

The guy in question is an absolute genius with VAG custom installs, some of the work I've seen him do is mind blowing. Its a great deal for anyone who's interested.

Leaving the house today I noticed the front suspension seems to creak going over speed bumps, of which there's a lot of where I live. Should I be concerned?

Suspension creaks and groans aren’t uncommon. It could be the top mounts, that’s been a common complaint. Or the wishbone bushings.

I'll look into it a bit more and keep an ear out. Some of the forum posts mention the cold.

any thoughts I know the estate was never available in Ireland but my brother is considering this as his set of wheels for his 12 months in Australia

Very nice indeed. So he’s thinking of buying it just for his year there? Won’t he have the aggravation of trying to sell it again in 12 months? Or is it a lease?
