He has fantastic running abilities. But yet again you just ignore all the attributes a fullback needs that you don't view as entertaining or suit your argument. Stockdale is our best winger. He should stay there

Basically for you its anyone but Kearney.
Pretty much. You absolutely no answered what inner qualities make Kearney obvious pick. Except "organizing the back-line and his positioning".
It matters, but no more than the qualities I described.

I hope Rob Kearney plays for another 10 years.

This feels like 10 years of tiresomeness. Stop for the love of Jebus.

Yeah after all 34 is not old for a FB. Why 43 would be. Bring BOD back, please.

I hope Rob and Dave play for long enough that their love children occupy the entire back three upon their retirement.

Otherwise, I'd just really like if we didn't keep humouring one poster whose obsession with a single position out of the 15 is, frankly, bordering on the unhealthy.

It's making my Hayes obsession plausible.

Wanting Kearney out is sacriledge. All right

Meh, I'm availing of forum functionality at this point. This thread is actually not worth the hassle otherwise.

    Doesn't work, too many quoters.

The Kearney discussion is beyond boring now. This place has been a nightmare recently, the Kearney talk stops now. That includes the little jokes and the sarcasm. Any more provincial bollocks, no matter how subtle, will be carded.

Ignore people who irritate you, and on that note there's no need to announce that you've ignored someone.

In fact, I am locking this thread for a while so that everyone can see this post and there can be no confusion.

Not sure Byrne has quite earned a spot yet then again neither had Farrell or Sweetnam so it's good to see Joe experimenting a bit.

I agree with regards Farrell, but not Sweetnam. He's been really good for a consistent period now and deserved his place last weekend.

As an aside (and this is complete conjecture here on my part) but I think him bringing in Farrell may suggest that the signs are not good for Payne.

I would say that the signs haven't been good for Payne since the start of these headaches. The problem for Joe right now will probably be the continued mystery around them, and specifically the total uncertainty over how long he'll be out.

Heard a few reports today that perhaps Payne could be retiring? Nothing concrete yet .. but if it's a long term concussive effect I could see it happening

Would absolutely hate to see that happen but at some point he has to consider his life after rugby.

They've said it's not concussion related:

“(It’s) been ruled that it’s not a concussive episode, it’s another episode with the neck and the head and he’s just getting headaches after hard work.”

Heard the same. They did say it's not concussion related though

Re Payne, indo had an article yesterday that he still has headaches and some neck pain after heavy work (training). They did however stipulate that it is not concussion related. If it was concussion related this long after the fact I'd imagine there would be no doubt about his retirement unfortunately but given that it appears to be something else it's probably harder to gauge.

As to whether this had an impact on bringing Farrell in - that could well be the case. Is Marshall fit up at Ulster?

With regards to Sweetnam, maybe 'doesn't deserve' isn't the right way to put it, but I think he was good in parts of last season but average to poor at the business end outside of the injury issues he's had.

I haven't seen anything of him this season to suggest he's at International level but with our problems in the back 3 it's not surprising that he's been given a shout. I guess the phrase 'he put his hand up for selection' just doesn't apply to these guys in my book but I'm still glad to see them getting a chance to prove themselves. Having Bowe and Trimble in the mix definitely would have been a waste of game time.

Head-aches when exercising is absolutely concussion related.

Sounds like they're obfuscating; saying that he does't have a concussion my be technically true (ie. no current bruising) but neglecting to say that e's experiencing post-concussion syndrome.

Didn't Sexton reportedly have similiar headaches after heavy training/cardio a couple of years ago around the time he was stood down for a few months in France?

I thought Marmion was poor on Saturday. I'd give McGrath the run, because I think he could do with the extra time and also I think he is in better form than Kieran, but I wouldn't lose sleep on it.

This is exactly the sort of thing the mod warning is on about. Cut it out.

Marmion was relatively poor, but the problems with the breakdown have to be taken into account there a bit. I think Marmion is still ahead of McGrath, but whether Joe decides to give McGrath some time out against Argentina or not is a different question.

What was poor about his play? Bearing in mind he got crap ball from the forwards, our ruck protection was dreadful at times.

I think theres an argument to have McGrath and Adam Byrne on the bench, get them some gametime. Marmion has had some decent game time over the last year with decent time against Wales, starts vs England and Fiji and over the summer tour and in the interest of developing depth McGrath would benefit from a runout on Saturday.

With regards Adam Byrne, I don't think he's ready yet but a bit of gametime from the bench would surely be a big fill up for him. I'd have Stockdale/Conway/Kearney as my back 3 with Adam Byrne at 23. Conways playing excellent stuff and deserves his place. Stockdale too. Kearney brings a bit of leadership and experience. Not sure I'd have him at 15 in 6 months time, but for the moment it's definitely the right player to have at 15.
