Wonder can a man use that judges decision that children are blessings and not a financial liability as legal precedent for not paying support.

A family member has written a heartfelt letter after their 80-year-old dad was investigated by police for simply talking to a young boy at a NSW supermarket.

The letter reveals the incident has “struck at the confidence of an older man”, after he spoke to a boy and patted his head, which then saw him interviewed by police.

For anyone interested (and I'm aware some people won't be), gender-specific/related hashtags I have seen recently trending on Twitter in Ireland. People can find out more on them on Twitter.

    #supporthersport

    #MakingWomenCount

    #makingwomencount (again)

    #womensinspire

#impactequality (this wasn't solely on women but some of it was, no tweets from the event that I saw focused on men on a quick search)

    #girlswithgoals

    #wmb17
    (Women Mean Business)

    #womensinspire (again)

    #DayoftheGirl

    #NWED
    National Women’s Enterprise Day

    #womenboycottwitter

Women and Men Report Similar Levels of Work-Family Conflicts
Research contradicts stereotypes that only women have trouble juggling work and family

WASHINGTON — Contrary to public perception and many media accounts, women and men report similar levels of work-family conflicts, both in the form of work interfering with family and family interfering with work, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.

Researchers spent several years examining the findings from more than 350 studies conducted over three decades that included more than 250,000 participants from across the world. The results were surprising, said lead researcher Kristen Shockley, PhD, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Georgia. The research was published online in the Journal of Applied Psychology®.

I thought it amusing that in the same week that the BBC was lauded for making Doctor Who a woman cos virtuous equality(#sobrave), they've shown that where it counts on the bottom line they pay women less. Brilliant. Not exactly atypical of such an apparently hypocritical entity.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't touch this sort of topic with a bargepole but the BBC have been putting out a weird amount of "Girl power" pieces as of late. Here's one example:

    The modern female knight.

I had thought I was imagining this or maybe because I'm abroad it was pushing different articles but glad to see I am not the only one noticing this.
To be honest I have cut down on looking at the beeb and moved to Reuters, The Guardian has long been a lost cause but I still can't help myself sometimes.

I'm great with timely replies to posts, so no need to mention it.

I recently read - via a Google search - that Twitter, FB and 1other social media site are female-dominated: Twitter is about 68% F; FB 52 or 58% F. Pinterest is overwhelmingly F and I saw no stat for Instagram. Reddit has about 82% male users (but the article was celebrating that women are using it more) and is the only mainstream sm site where men are majority.

I've no problem with women #'s dominating female-dominated sites. I guess maybe it provides some little boost, to be retweeted, like getting a photo liked?

Oh yeah...the womenboycoyytwitter thing was only a one-day-event....such willpower and determination! (No problem being a slave to utterly useless technology)

My impression of Twitter is that it is fairly gender balanced. First two results I found on a search:
    https://www.omnicoreagency.com/twitter-statistics/

24% of All Internet male users use Twitter, whereas 21% of All Internet Female users use Twitter.
    http://www.pewinternet.org/2016/11/11/social-media-update-2016/

24% of online males and 25% of online females

My sources were businessinsider, brandwatch and entrepreneur after seeing the claim on some other site. On checking, 2 of those sites were from 2 years ago. The research was conducted by infographic and financesonline.com. I cleaned my history at the weekend, so i can't say the initial claim source.

1 in 4 male internet users have a twitter a/c? Seems very high.

Of course, the Dail is chock full of auld lads [and we've specifically used different length symbols for male and female in this part of figure + for the employment rate so you see, statistical know-nothings these 2 are very, very important!]:pac:

Eoghan McDermott talking about mental health. Fair play. I can’t say I know anything about him but If it helps some people who identify with him, then good on him.

It’s a male public figure putting his weight into promoting a charity that deals with mental health, self harm and suicide. Those being important issues to men, I think it’s worth promoting.

Here’s a link to a short interview with a man who experienced domestic abuse by his wife. He outlines his story and encourages men to come forward and seek help. He’s very frank and articulate and gives an insight into the kind of mental and physical abuse he experienced.

Boys find it harder to concentrate at school, ESRI study finds
Girls also scored higher than boys in social skills such as empathy and self-control
The Growing Up in Ireland study examined problems facing children aged seven and eight, and found that 19 per cent of boys said sitting still and listening in school was difficult, compared to 8 per cent of girls.

People outside Stephen's Green in Dublin were greeted with the sight of the naked body of a man on a mat with the hashtag #SOSManDown
The campaign was organised by Fathers4Justice to address rates of suicide, alcohol and drug abuse in men and ran simultaneously in Dublin, London and Edinburgh.

The biggest male killer for under 35's is suicide and eight men a week take their lives here.

F4J is calling for a Minister for Men & Boys to tackle the issue. Founder Matt O’Connor revealed he struggled with thoughts of suicide when a bitter custody battle for his two eldest sons brought him to his lowest ebb.

Funny to see the reactions to the men's day and the men's voice Ireland group already the labels of mysogny and snyo gay being thrown around.

It seems to be a scary prospect for some that men dare talk about their own rights or things like a men's council.

...what an arsehole IMHO! Men have just as much right to raise concerns about their wellbeing as women do!

While that guy does seem to be an unpleasant sort, Im not sure that having separate awareness campaigns for men and women is a good thing. Obviously the clinical issues can be different for both, but if its raising awareness I think its wrong to raise the issue for men to the exclusion of women.

I also think that international mens day is a bit of a silly idea. Its too general and as such leads to confusion, resulting in odd messages from the rubberbands about genital hygene and crying!
