On what merit? I know you're a super fan and all but he's had a few absolute mares at 10 this season at provincial level he hasn't even come close to looking promising at international. Carty or Byrne would be a much more likely call up.

What absolute mares at 10 at provincial level?

    My team for Argentina:
    Healy, Best, Furligind, Henderson, Toner, POM, SOB, Conan;
Murray, Sexton, Stockdale, Henshaw, Aki, Sweetnam, Conway

Herring, Kilcoyne, John Ryan*/Porter, James Ryan*/Dillane, Stander, McGrath, Keatley, McCloskey

    *if fit

Argentina don't look great. I think Ireland can afford to mix things up slightly. Let's give Conway a look at fullback and Conan at 8.

Hanrahan is miles off an Ireland call up. He’s barely ahead of TB at Munster who’s in absolute shambolic form.

If anyone gets called up it’ll be Byrne or Carty. But I doubt they’ll call up anyone unless they’re worried about Sexton or Keatley having a knock.

Miles off because he's barely ahead of a player who was called up to the last squad get-together, is it?

Why do folks consider Conway as a full-back. All his best games have been on the wing. At U20 he was dynamite on the wing, The rationale would therefore be he is a good winger. Why would you play him at full-back when all the indicators says he should be on the wing. Bizarre

Conway is very much a back 3 player. Him starting at 15 tonight is a sign of things to come.

I would be most disappointed if that turned out to be true. It bothers me when a young players talent is not unlocked by simply playing them in the wrong position.

Conway played more time at 15 than wing at u20 and was excellent there too. Same in schools. He's played both

So, basically, you want Kearney for rwc.

I don't care if Rob Kearney is fullback for the next rugby world cup. If he is the best choice then he is the best choice. What was proven today was nothing. So if Rob is fullback and the team functions then Rob is the best choice. Simple as that.

Harsh on Ruddock, what more can he do to prove he should be a starter?

He's not U-20. His game had developed significantly since then
He's played most of the last 2 seasons at FB
All the indicators are he can cover both positions more than adequately

No, miles off because he’s struggling to make Pro12 squads ahead of a player in shocking form, while Byrne and Carty are regular starters.

Hanrahan had one brilliant game but hasn't been near the munster squad never mind the Irish squad. Wouldn't know any of the calls. Doubt anyone will be called up this week tbh.

A lot of focus will be on hanrahan Bryce and carty over the next few months to get into the 6 nations squad and I'd tip Byrne to get there

I must've admit I was wrong about Conway particularly at full back. I wouldn't think your friend Kearney has much longer there in international shirt

Don't worry it'll be Conway or O Halloran.

Conway was most gifted player to come out of Blackrock College according to coaches there. Now McGinty and Smith if they said that I would listen.

    Joe Schmidt will think differently.

It's amazing what you think joe Schmidt will or won't think but even if he is selected it is a dishonourable fall from grace if you are getting picked ahead of better performing players in o halloran and conway

For those thinking Marmion might have dropped down the pecking order, I really doubt it. Joe left him on to try and clean up his game and turn things around. He definitely had a few poor executions and there was one passage of play with around 4 breakdowns where he totally went missing (I thought he had gotten a knock).

He was definitely forcing things (as was Carbery at times) but I think the fact that Joe wanted him to sort it out on the pitch is evident in his investment in the player.

That said, Joe might also have left him on to keep Luke fresh for the weekend so hard to know. Would be a disappointing international window for Luke McGrath if his total involvement was 3 minutes off the bench in a struggle against Fiji.

Keep Luke fresh? To sub behind Murray?! I think the fact he got 3 mins shows how far down the pecking order he is. I'll be amazed if he's considered for next week

Marmion gets slated every time he's on the pitch and the entire team serve up dross, yet amazingly still gets picked for some reason!

His passing was good, his decison making was fine. Far from a vintage game but no worse than the majority of the players on the pitch and as has been mentioned when your pack are getting absolutely murdered blaming the scrum half for slow ball is fairly ludicrous.

Like I said, I suspect Marmion was left on as Joe wanted him to tidy up his game while on the pitch.

As for where Luke is in the pecking order, I don't think Marmion exactly built a lead over him with his performance yesterday.

We have to admit he has had some bad decision-making in 1st half, and box-kicks have to improve massively

Yeah, I think we got a very good read on the scrum half pecking order last night.

If Jack McGrath is fit he'll displace Kilcoyne, Carbery is gone and they will be the only changes I'd say.

Definitely wouldn't rule out McGrath and even Adam Byrne being on the bench next week. Schmidt has specifically mentioned getting everyone in the squad game time in previous blocks of matches, although in McGrath's case it may be that 3 minutes is enough for Joe.

It would be harsh on Kilcoyne. He was very good off the bench.

Yeah Kilcoyne is incredibly unlucky to be competing with the other two but his non-involvement last night wasn't a good sign.

I'd say there will be a renewed sense of urgency around Byrne with Carbery injured. We need a third choice, badly.
