He's such a fidjit I'm surprised he isn't employed full time on the wing in the top14.

    Rumoured team:

    1. Jack McGrath
    2. Rob Herring
    3. Andrew Porter
    4. Ultan Dillane
    5. Devin Toner
    6. Rhys Ruddock
    7. Jordi Murphy
    8. Jack Conan
    9. Kieran Marmion
    10. Joey Carberry
    11. Dave Kearney
    12. Stuart McCloskey
    13. Chris Farrell
    14. Darren Sweetnam
    15. Andrew Conway

Don't get why the backline needs to be so drastically different to last week. I get it's Fiji and a time to try people but there's enough change in the backline already for the SA and Argentina games that they should be kept mostly together to build experience together

For me I'd prefer to see
    9. Marion
    10. Carberry
    11. Stockdale
    12. Aki
    13. Henshaw
    14. Sweetnam
    15. Conway

I'm assuming Schmidt sees it as a chance to give others a chance rather than building partnerships. With a 6Ns and a 3 match tour of Australia on the horizon when else will the likes of Farrell, McCloskey and Sweetman get a chance to start? Now is the time.

Yeah, I think you have to give those others a chance, there's every possibility that some of them will work out fantastically well. I'd say we'll see much of last weeks 23 back again for the Argentina game.

Is Joe getting grief for not being conservative enough?

What a time to be alive.

I prefer my Joe Schmidt when he is off ruining people's confidence tbh.

Dave Kearney should not be in that team. It's ridiculous. We know what he can do, which is precious little. He's blocking the development of younger players like Byrne.

    Feel better?

I've only seen Chris Farrell play poorly for Munster. I know he's been good, but I am just wondering where he sits on the centre pecking order come Japan.

    Henshaw
    Aki
    Ringrose
    Marshall
    McCloskey
    Scannell
    Payne

Presumably he is ahead of both Scannell and Marshall at the moment. But I agree I haven't seen him play well at all for Munster, but granted I've maybe watched 3 or 4 Munster games all season and he may not have played in them all.

Doubt Aki is ahead of Ringrose already

Irish rugby announces time for team announcement. Irish rugby misses it. Irish Rugby starts to schedule team announcements for later in the day. Repeat.

If we continue this loop we'll eventually get back to mid-day team announcements.

Wow amazing to think Henshaw has 30 caps already.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,834 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

The starting 15 is the same as the rumoured lineup posted earlier.

Bench is interesting though. Henshaw at 23 can cover multiple positions. May even see him at full back. Disappointed Adam Byrne isn't getting a shot but he'll benefit from being in the camp.

Good team. It should do the business. I'm delighted for Chris Farrell too.

    Carbery only has 5 caps??!

He was injured/behind Jackson anyway for the 6N. His first pro rugby was only last season sure.

Whenever I've seen Farrell play he's been a bit cack. Think he's very lucky to get capped.

Carbery is 21/22 and only in his second full season as a pro. He wasn't even in double digits in Leinster appearances before getting an Ireland cap. Missed the 6N through injury too.

has the fiji team being named yet ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

I would have thought Toner had more than 51 caps at this stage.

That's a strong bench, would imagine the starting team my struggle to gel, with so many changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

Yeah, nice to see such an experimental team, but with such experience that can come off the bench to steady the ship, should excrement hit rotating cooling device.

Was looking forward to Bryne v Nadolo II

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,834 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Ruddock probably should have more caps than 17. Been around the Ireland set up a long time and made his debut at 19 iirc. Hopefully he'll set a marker down for inclusion in our strongest 23. He's an excellent player when fit.

Really hope it goes well for McCloskey. He's had an excellent season (himself) so far, and I'd hate to see him knocked off that again like he was last time he got taken off early against England.
