Healy, Best, Furlong, Toner, Henderson, PoM, SoB, Stander

Kilcoyne, Herring, Ryan, Dillane; Ruddock, Marmion, Carbery, Conway

    Above is According to Thornley

Thornley is actually calling 12. Aki 13. Henshaw and the wings are also reversed, not that either of them is a huge deal.

TBH I think a few people in here have been a little condescending in treating the possibilty of Henshaw playing outside Aki in this match as bat**** insane. It's an established relationship with the players in those positions so I have no idea why.

    Here's Thornley's full possibles:
    IRELAND (possible, v South Africa): R Kearney; J Stockdale, R Henshaw, B Aki, K Earls; J Sexton, C Murray; C Healy, R Best (capt), T Furlong, D Toner, I Henderson, P O’Mahony, S O’Brien, C J Stander. Replacements: D Kilcoyne, R Herring, J Ryan, U Dillane, R Ruddock, K Marmion, J Carbery, A Conway.

EDIT: Sorry if I've missed it but does anyone know what happened to Jack McGrath? EDIT AGAIN: Oops I see Thornley says he just been dropped. Surprising.

Can't argue with that team. The only comment I was going to make was didn't get why they wouldn't go with Aki at 12.

Jack McGrath not in the 23? Wow.

I wonder has GT got the 11-14 the wrong way around. Stockdale on the right wing would be a strange one IMO.

Got to assume an injury of some sort.

Nah, not with the way Ireland play. I'd put him on the right and keep Earls on the left.

I thought so too but I hadn't noticed that Thornley seems to suggest he may just have been dropped.
Regardless of any further injuries, the bench could also contain some surprises, notably the choice of the in-form David Kilcoyne ahead of Jack McGrath,

That article makes it sound like a selection call.

Yeah just read the article again and copped that. Ruddock can feel a bit aggrieved based on form then. Backrow need a big performance

The Indo have Earls/Conway on the right wing and Stockdale on the left

Indo also don't have 8 subs on the bench..

I think the back three will be
    11 Stockdale
    14 Earls/Conway
    15 R Kearney

Centre i still think 12. Henshaw 13. Aki.

The bench is going to be interesting. Herring, Kilcoyne are form picks, Ryan or Dillane is the most interesting of all. IT says Dillane. Indo says Ryan.

But there will still be conservative Joe nonsense being posted here and elsewhere come 2pm.

No way McGrath dropped for Kilcoyne. Must be injury based.

Healy has regained form and is rightly rewarded with a start, but Joe is not one to jettison one of his long term starters. Also, while McGrath is not playing at his peak, he has certainly not been disappointing

McGrath hasn't been near his best this season to date, while Kilcoyne is probably having his best season of his career, lions hangover...

I can't wait to see how people justify playing out of form players having spent years bleating on about how we should be picking guys purely on form. Should be fun. :D

Radio this morning said McGrath was injured. Gave no details

    Team I'd pick:

    15 Carberry
    14 Earls (conway if injured)
    13 Henshaw
    12 Aki
    11 Stockdale
    10 Sexton
    9 Murray
    8 CJ
    7 SOB
    6 Ruddock
    5 Henderson
    4 Toner
    3 Furlong
    2 Best
    1 McGrath

    16 Herring
    17 Healy
    18 Ryan
    19 Ryan
    20 POM
    21 Marmion
    22 Mc Closkey
    23 Kearney

Ruddock has been the best player on every rugby pitch he has stepped foot on far too many times to not get a start. I think we simply have to have a playmaker at full back at this stage. Only argument for keeping Kearney is experience/stability. Mc Grath starting and Healy benching is the right balance and they are both streets ahead of the competition. Mc Closkey is having a great season and provides a really strong carrying option off the bench.

I do reckon Joe will go with the team we all expect, but I can hope for at least one curveball.

Which players are you talking about? Kearney and Dillane?

Heard Earls and Murray out on twitter. That would be a disaster. Can't see many running with it though

We can win the match without either or both.

Earls is our best winger and Murray is one of our few world class players. Luckily, we have a bit of depth in our squad now, so losing both is not a total disaster at all.

We should all be saying our rosaries for Johnny though.

Sweetnam bench eh? Presumably at D Kearneys expense. If Stockdale too starts then Joe is clearly think RWC 2019

Can anyone recommend a good pub in Brixton where I could catch the match on Saturday?

Does it definitely have to be Brixton?

Sweetnam has been very good again this season, I'd be delighted if he gets on; it'd be his first cap as well, I believe.

"But but but, conservative Joe? Untrusting Uncle Joe? The Maggie Thatcher of Irish Rugby? Picking young primising players who are in form?? I'll believe it when I see it.... and then find something else to complain about."
