    Where did you hear that

It's over on PR. Reliable enough poster. I'd tend to believe it but as usual wait for the team.

You also started the Sexton rumour. I'll believe it when it comes from a more credible source.

He's not starting anything, they're just sharing what they heard.

If you want to wait for credible sources there is not much point looking at discussion boards before the IRFU team announcement.

Last year's victory over NZ in Chicago is doing the rounds on social media again. Does anyone know the name of the piece of music in this piece?

Irish Rugby TV: Ireland v New Zealand Tunnel Cam

    Thanks.
Sounds like something Steve Jablonsky would write. Probably from a movie.

Edit: Sounds like it's from Transformers.

This track is thematically the same. Especially starting around the 1:20 mark

I heard the same thing about Earls yesterday. Just curious on his source.

I think the teams have to be announced 48 hours before kickoff don't they?

Healy is in terrific form but he isn't the player he was. He is a much more powerful player and scrummager and his tackling and rucking are second to none but he struggles with higher intensity games after 20 minutes or so. McGrath is more aerobic and better to put out for 50 - 60 minutes.

I'd fear South Africa milking points off Kilcoyne in the second half truth be told. He's a fine player in the loose but defensively he lacks the power of McGrath / Healy and at the set piece he is a complete liability when under pressure.

Kilcoyne isn't a fine player in the loose. He has no vision and no handling game. Mako Vunipola he ain't. It's reductionist to think that ball-carrying is the only aspect of loose play that matters. If McGrath is out it would have been better to have Bealham in there as a loosehead imo

Bealham is a TH Buckley is the undisputed first choice LH in Connacht

Bealham covered loosehead off the bench in at least one of the matches in South Africa in 2016, and has featured there for Connacht as well. Schmidt, I suspect, thinks Buckley is too small for Test rugby. Giving Bealham experience at loosehead could be a useful exercise as he could end up being the prop who is asked to cover both sides in a World Cup squad

Bealham's scrummaging from loosehead is really fairly average. Buckley is very similar in height and weight to Kane Hames who was starting for the All Blacks recently at LH.

I think there are some crossed wires there, Kearney, Byrne and Sweetnam only re-joined the squad yesterday. They couldn't be gone again.

So it's OK, Dave will take his rightful spot on Saturday and we can put all this Stockdale nonsense behind us.

I'm not sure, but it was reported on the radio they had been released from the squad, can't remember which station as it could have been the car or in work.

I was always led to believe that an individual front row forward's height was only a problem relative to the height of the other front rows.

I'd say it won't be long before we can field a fairly Saffer style pack:

    McGrath - 6"1, 120kg
    Best - 5"11, 110kg
    Furlong - 6"1, 125kg
    Toner - 6"10, 125kg
Ryan - 6"8, 110kg (and will likely rise)
    Henderson - 6"7, 120kg
    O'Brien - 6"2, 110kg
    Heaslip - 6"4, 110kg

Well maybe it's more about having the frame to carry enough weight naturally rather than just weight then. Schmidt advised James Tracy to switch to hooker because he didn't think he was big enough for international rugby as a loosehead, so it is something Schmidt looks for.

Some of those stats I'd be skeptical about, also by all accounts leinster are trying to slim down there forwards, presumably ireland doing the same.

Depends on the forward, they spent a good bit of time bulking up Ross Moloney last year.

Well obviously yes, because he is undersized.. they've gone the opposite way with lads who can carry much more weight - Porter, Healy, Toner, Conan to name a few.

I thought looking at Conan this year that he has bulked up, as has Jordi. Healy though has definitely slimmed down noticeably.

Healy put on a bucketload of weight during his injury layoff. He was quite... ahem... portly when he came back.

Does Thornley /IT usually have a 'probable' team of a Wednesday evening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Kearney, Earls, Aki, Henshaw, Stockdale Sexton, Murray
Healy, Best, Furlong, Toner, Henderson, PoM, SoB, Stander

Kilcoyne, Herring, Ryan, Dillane; Ruddock, Marmion, Carbery, Conway

    Above is According to Thornley
