If being a paedophile doesn't change your view of someone I don't know what will.

The Kevin Spacey thing is a little weird in the sense that nothing has yet been confirmed or proven.

If it is, I wont be able to look at him in the same way but will give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. At least until these allegations have been cleared up one way or the other.

Child abuse is child abuse. The offenders status is irrelevant

Funnily enough, when Corey Haim was talking about paedophilia in Hollywood, he said Michael Jackson, who he hung around with, never touched him.

I wouldn't be doing it out a desire to be shocked and outraged more out of wondering 'if I find some of their actions disquieting do I help them out by continuing to fund their lifestyles?'

And there are people you really wrestle over… Bowie, Led Zep, Iggy Pop…

In Cork, one of the most popular show's was the Neil Prendeville slot on 96fm. His shtick was to be the high horse presenter being controversial stoking call ins from gullible and irate listeners. A story about how a high profile individual in the Cork area who exposed themselves on a flight and masturbated would have been right up his alley, where he would be the one calling for them to be listed on the sex offender's register and would be moralizing about it ad nauseum.

Except he was the one who did that and so his 'shtick' could no longer hold water for me.

I wish he would just name his abusers.

Maybe he’s afraid he won’t be able to enjoy their work anymore if he does.

Seems like MJ is turning out to be one of the normal ones, that he was eccentric more than anything. Perhaps he was a good scapegoat given his eccentricities to deflect attention away from the actual legitimate abusers.

I couldn't watch any rapist, paedophile or violent offender in any film.
I do know several people who did time (not for any of the above) and changed their lives for the better. I respect them for it.

It would complicate my feelings about the work in question.

Books have this problem with guys like Louis Ferdinand Celine. Guy was a willing collaborator with the Nazis but wrote some terrific stuff.

It's pretty hard to really, but as more and more of these stories come out all the time it's becoming increasingly hard for the world to do what was done to Gary Glitter all those years ago and completely forget about his music. You simply never hear it on the radio now. Will the same happen with Spacey, I doubt it.

That's interesting as well. It's harder to remain appalled with the rate at which this stuff has been coming out. Heard some rumours of Ian McKellan now as well, that would be really disappointing.

I suppose it Does depend on the Crime and the level of exposure .

Charles S Dutton one of those scene making actors , convicted of Manslaughter served time . Always enjoy his work .

Also I probably should have been clearer in my OP , Kevin Spacey hasn't been convicted of anything I should have phrased more like if he was to be found gulity of anything in light of his at tempt at a 14year old boy

I feel it is a spoiler in some ways to know who the artist is before appreciating\evaluating the art.

If you think a bottle of wine is vile and are told afterwards it most valuable and well thought of by experts, does it make it any less vile?

Does a Penneys garment become something different with a Gucci label on it?

Do the Usual Suspects or Annie Hall become different\lesser works of art knowing what we now know?

Now that Christopher Marlowe has be credited as co-writer of some of Shakespeare's work, does this fact transform the art in some way?

Like a court case, I feel we must try to judge on the merits of the art before us and not previous crimes and misdemeanors of the artist.

I think part of that issue is the statute of limitations on those crimes, and his fear that he'd be sued by the people who can no longer be prosecuted.

I can no longer watch a wrestling match that Chris Benoit participates. Im sure if I put aside the fact he killed his wife and son, I would most certainly enjoy them, he was a fantastic athlete capable of putting in fantastic wrestling matches, but unfortunately I can never look passed what he did.

I was 17 at the time of the murders and it really struck a chord with me.

The burden of proof isn't on the accused, it's on the accuser. So in essence you do have to prove it happened, although the burden of proof is lower in civil cases. I assume historical allegations would simply add to the difficulties in prosecuting. Given the history of drug issues and abuse that have plagued Feldman throughout his childhood and his adult life, I'd cut him a pass at not acting at the time.

On the back of these threads here lately, I bought his autobiography. It's hard to read, and that's before he even starts on the Hollywood issue. In fact, I put it down halfway through because it was so harrowing. If a fraction of it is true, then that poor guy deserves kudos for still being among us, and anything he did or didn't do to keep himself going is understandable. I hope this latest wave of solidarity amongst the victims of the Hollywood elite enable him to finally exorcise his demons in the most public way possible and give him some satisfaction from being a force for change.

I remember seeing recently that Feldman has a gofundme to expose those from his past. I'd imagine you'd need to have deep pockets to take on Hollywood with something like this.

On another note, he said MJ was damaging because he'd take an interest, be good friends and was a great listener. Until he got bored of you, then you were cast aside.

Seems to me that the choice to watch Spacey's movies is being removed from us.
House of Cards has been cancelled and entertainment journalists are saying that his career is over - no chance of him ever getting a gig again.

His accuser, who was 14, claims Spacey lay on top of him while drunk, 31 years ago.
Spacey has reportedly no memory of this encounter, but no matter.
    It has been said.
    If you're accused....you're guilty...you're fukked.

Music seems easier to overlook, probably because I'm not looking at someones face and thinking of their crimes. It's less intrusive when you're not seeing them.

music? i don't know...this was one of my fav xmas songs, now i do not dare play it in public
