This bit particularly struck me as clutching at straws for something to complain about. Absolute sympathies to anyone who has lost a child but that's a massive leap and I'll hold my hand up if any bereaved parent is genuinely offended or upset by that.

    Agreed.

    Pathetic.

Anyway, you'd think that if it was a reminder at all it would be a good one. No?

These names are all too dreary though. People burdened with the troubles
and worries of sickness need a bright and hopeful environment.
Let the name be 'The Flamingo', 'Sparkles', 'Tropicana' or 'The Desert Inn'

The nurses could dress like croupiers or black jack dealers. The Doctors and Consultants in tuxedos being rich gamblers. Medications can be brought around in champagne flutes on silver trays. Bands, entertainment acts, Tigers and Circus extravaganzas. Not to mention Show Girls.

James' and the Children's Hospital collectively referred to as The Strip

    You should run for president.

This country has a problem with alcohol. We have named the new children's hospital after a beer!

I agree, anything for a whinge.

There are over two dozen St. Vincent's hospitals in the USA. There's also a St. Vincent's hospital in Athy, co. Kildare.

I can't ever remember any report saying people are mixing them up.

There’s even a second St Vincent’s hospital in Dublin! I got them confused once.

What would the kiddies think of that?

I think they would pick up on the upbeat energy and joy of it all.
It would be very conducive to healing and wellness.
And they'd be learning card games and slots to boot.

It would be a bit of gamble though....

Are they not going to call it after a saint? The iOnanists will be outraged.

St Phoenix children's hospital sounds Ok, doesn't it?

If I were to name it after a saint, I'd name it after Saint Bernadette of Lourdes. After all, she was a sick child herself.

You need to deal with that chip, I suggest.

You make a huge and erroneous assumption there. I have no chip whatsoever and was just stating a fact. Indeed I probably underestimated the proportion of the country that would struggle to pronounce or é a litriú.

This is why nothing ever gets done in this country.

We cant even agree on a minor thing like the name for the hospital, never mind the actual big decisions that will really affect the kids in there.

Ah, don't name it after a saint - we're trying to present ourselves as a secular state, remember?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    The Coca ColaTM Children's Hospital.

I've had occasion to be in the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence and it's very impressive......plus the sick kids get some relief/distraction through having a plethora of great toys to play with.

Call it the National Children's Hopsital, just to annoy the pedants.

There was a previous problem with people confusing St. James's Hospital and James Connolly Hospital. It should have a name based on what it does and where it does it / who it does it for.
It should be named after Dr. Kathleen Lynn, she was a true revolutionary and pioneer in pediatric medicine here, who's efforts to put in place a proper children's hospital were sadly thwarted by the despicable Catholic hierarchy.
    https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.irishtimes.com/opinion/diarmaid-ferriter-name-children-s-hospital-after-kathleen-lynn-1.3271708%3fmode=amp
So, you are sending your child to the Lynn Hospital in Dublin - that's going to do wonder for morale, isn't it?

Kathleen Lynn was a captain in the 1916 Rising. The rebels occupied the South Dublin Union, what is now St. James's Hospital and the 3,000 or so occupants - patients with mental health, intellectual disability issues, elderly and poor were subjected to a week of being in the middle of battle. This indicates a distinct failure of judgement and I don't think she should have a hospital named for her.

It's not in Lourdes, so don't donfuse things. We already have Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

To reflect the area chosen, perhaps National Childers Hostible?

Just a statement of fact. Most Irish people don't speak the "Irish" language.

Precisely, but there's a bigger chip that won't accept that simple fact and assumes any reference to the fact is a putdown of the language.

I mean, I know you meant that as a joke, but apparently they are trying to take shortcuts with fire safety measures due to cost.

Mount Brown is taken already as well. I was in The George last night and someone offered to take me up there for some reason.

Yeah, because a hospital full of sick children is the PERFECT place to take shortcuts with fire safety :confused:

Kathleen Lynn Hospital would be a perfect name for the hospital. Ultimately it's going to have to be changed because it's received backlash from the public, the profession and Phoenix Hospital in Arizona (which will lead to unnecessary conflicts when publishing research)
