The Feelgoods. Without doubt one of the best live bands I have ever seen. To my shame I was dragged along reluctantly. 1976/77 I think.

The Pistols. I saw them in 76. All their concerts had been cancelled by the local council's in the UK. Therefore I saw a band called Acne Rabble at Middlesbrough Rock Garden. Obviously it was the Sex Pistols. All I remember was noise. Mind you alcohol. Much alcohol, may have been consumed.

Sorry lads but I'm wrapped up in a warm blanket of nostalgia.

Tomorrow marks the 40th. anniversary of the release of 'Never Mind The Gonads' - the most influential album of all time?

You don't have to censor the word - there was a court case (attempted prosecution of a Virgin Records store manager for obscenity due to said album) which ruled that the word 'bollocks' was officially not obscene :)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_mind_the_bollocks#Title.2C_packaging_and_obscenity_case

It's actually a really good album - never mind all the bollocks associated with it :)

If you buy the compilation 'Kiss This' it's got all the tracks from NMTB plus a few more besides.

    Post on Facebook just now:

Well, not only has BBC4 tonight for some reason decided that five days before Halloween is a good time to screen 'Christmas 1977 with the Sex Pistols' but they also quite merrily have just included a clip of Dave Lee Travis in it!

    #FreeDLT :pac:

I don't think the Xmas 1977 Pistols thing has been shown before, at least not in many years - although it's actually pretty likely it was not shown at all at the time due to being too 'controversial'
It's 40 years on from NMTB and it's something 'new' from the Pistols so who cares if it's not Xmas yet!!

Edit: just to clarify, it's recording right now but I won't get to watch it until at least tomorrow night!

    Recommended punky reading...

‘England’s Dreaming’ by Jon Savage - one of the best, if not the best book about The Sex Pistols.

Fab Vinny on RTE1 was very good (pity it wasn't a bit longer). Well worth a look on the RTE Player.

He really was a pioneer, even today the idea of RTE producing a weekly show filmed on Outside Broadcast from New York seems unlikely.

The inserts, the cinematography, the jingles, the music and Fab Vinny linking the videos on MT USA were done so well.

Good to see he was able to play the video for Relax on RTE2 in the afternoon while the BBC had banned the song entirely!

It was in Irish for some bizarre reason, so I didn't watch it.

RTE's Irish-language shows are usually better than most of their English-language ones... ;)

That is very true! For example, Scannal was an excellent series that was far better than most of the English language rubbish they produce....

Can’t find ‘Fab Vinny’ on the RTE Player :(

Somebody upload it to YouTube for me please :D

After the first few minutes, there was a lot more English spoken than Irish in the Fab Vinny programme show, give it a whirl. The reaction has been generally very positive. It's on the Irish version of the RTE Player, not sure why they don't have it for the rest of the world

Anyway, here's a look at some other coming attractions. BBC4 have a lesser spotted new programme, when I say 'new' it's actually a 40 year old documentary which Whispering Bob made when Queen were making News Of The World but never got finished for some reason. Not sure what's going on there, and there are any amount of Queen Docs already, but there it is.

Elsewhere Sky Arts has a show on The Clash and there's double TOTP which brings up to the middle of November 1984. Band Aid will be along any minute now ...

That's more or less it. This thread has somehow almost made it to the 10,000 post mark which means it will need to be locked soon ... and a new thread started. Might be a good opportunity to give the title an overdue tweak, seeing as BBC3 closed down years ago and the horizons have broadened beyond the BBC perimeters!

If you only get to see one Abba Medley this weekend, my pick would be Alan Partridge's duet on Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge on GOLD (Friday Night 1am)

Had no idea so-called "Queen" were still touring about the place with a 93% sell out rate (sez wiki). Not bad at all given it's not really Queen.
