Jesus that first account is chilling and disturbing to listen to! Makes sense from what we saw of him during season 1.

    Finished it last night.

Although I think it was a very good show, I'm not as impressed by it as many in this thread.

Of course it was good, but not a patch on some of the great shows I have seen in recent years.

A solid 7/10 at best for me.

Enjoyed this, even though it was pretty harrowing in places. I've only seen Jonathan Groff in Glee before now (and Frozen too, I guess) and I'm really impressed by him and how starkly different this character is to what I've seen before.

There are a few things that I think we won't understand the significance of until next season (
e.g. the cat food, and maybe Tench's son - the fact that he won't speak and we don't know what happened him before he was adopted
) and I like that they had the confidence to lay the groundwork for things that are going to have a slow payoff.

I feel it's dragging towards the end. Filler episodes that are anime-worthy with little to no character development and falling in to the case-per-episode formula á la X Files.
    For example,
Wendy being a lesbian. Does it matter? She could have just uprooted her life and decided to move without the break up that we weren't invested in before, nor afterwards.
Again, we won't get it till next season but I think there could be political fallout for the BSU from the fact that Wendy, who has a significant role in their methodology, would be considered a sexual deviant herself by the standards of the time.

Anna Torv on what she thought the tuna meant and what Fincher told her it kind of meant.
“I thought, ‘This little kitten is representative of all these faceless [victims] and we only notice the ones that are dead because they have families that are looking for them. And then here’s this little abandoned cat that no one is going to care about. And if that was a person, it’d be the same thing.
“That’s what I first thought when I read it, but that’s just because I’m crazy,” Torv adds with a hearty laugh. “I was making it so deep when probably she’s just, you know, feeding a cat.”

The actress later ran her theory by Mindhunter exec producer David Fincher, who quickly informed her, ‘Oh… no, that’s not it,'” she guffaws. Fincher then explained to her that the cryptic series of scenes were, at least in part, suggesting to the audience that perhaps “there was a kid in the building who’s going around killing cats. And it’s a birth of a new sociopath that we don’t quite know about. Because that’s how it starts — with [inflicting harm on] animals.”

Found this interesting to read - it was tweeted by Rhett Reese this morning.

Dangerous Minds - Criminal profiling made easy.

When I look at the link again, the article is from 2007!

it was almost like a good book that you cant put down for me! Stayed up late few times because I wanted to see what happened in the next ep! Hope we dont have to wait too long for the next season!

Twice this year Netflix has made me annoyed at myself for binge watching a series and realising I'm going to have to wait ages for the next season. Ozark in my eyes was fantastic and Mindhunter was one of those shows that I can see myself going back and watching a few times, loved the style, how the characters interacted and the story was the kind of thing that interests me. Loving Netflix at the moment

BTK is a fascinating example; he led directly to his own downfall. He had never been caught, was quiet for about a decade or two, then seemed to get annoyed at nobody realising who he is. He then starts killing and sending letters.

Also very interesting - there's a side-by-side comparison of Ed Kemper in Mindhunter and the real-life Ed Kemper from the actual interviews

I thought it was good but not amazing, didn't really feel like any of the characters were likeable and really disliked Holden, his expression/stare bothered me more than it should have. It felt very Criminal Minds at times. I also felt a lot of episodes felt like they ended quite abruptly, sometimes I was expecting it to pick back up where it left off but it was onto a brand new town/crime, once I had to check I didn't skip an episode.

On episode 8. Enjoying it but my mind isn't blown yet.

The intro however is infuriating me. 1m 40s that is just way too long.

It's possible to skip this on Netflix.

Oh, I know, I just didn't realise how much it annoyed me until it was too late and on chromecast is isnt as easy.

Edit - Just finished ep 10. I'm at 8/10. Looking forward to series 2!

    Just finished series 1.

    Started Friday night...

Read up on the show wiki page, it’s based on a book by a retired FBI agent (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_E._Douglas) who actually worked at the BSU and had interviewed several notorious criminals...... I was trying to determine if the story is somewhat semi auto-biographical......especially since the criminals/ crimes were real... but I digress

Thought the styling and cinematography was on point....

Without giving too much away, I think the best thing about the series was the changes to and development of Holdens character throughout. (As an aside, I am also in full agreemeng with the poster from earlier in the thread who said he looks like Dennis from ‘it’s always sunny’! Uncanny at times :pac: )

    That ending though.....! :o

I still preferrred Ozark but this is a great series nonetheless.

Ha. I watch Netflix on my Xbox and a little box pops asking do you want to ‘skip intro’ but I still watch it. I fricking love that intro. Just totally encapsulates the mood.

Finished it last night. Despite some outstanding scenes that last episode was definitely the weakest of the bunch.

The low profile actors they’ve got for most of the roles are just outstanding. Special mention has gotta go to the guy who plays Ed Kemper though. Eeeessssh....

The girlfriend Debbie is super annoying. Dunno whether she’s miscast or just poorly written but scenes with her absolutely drag unlike the rest of it.

    Agree with all of this.

Have finished the series, I enjoyed it enough but like you said it was good not great

Found every scene that was just Holden and Debbie quite a struggle tbh.

This is really cool. The actor totally nailed Kemper.

Tell me this folks, I like Fincher, but found 'Zodiac' an unremittingly dull and unengaging watch, since I get much the same vibe from Mindhunter trailers as I did from Zodiac, is this a series I should skip as it's clearly not for me?

The only similarities I can see is that he's saying the same lines. He hasn't mimicked the mannerisms at all.

The read Ed was way more conversational, relaxed and matter of fact. I think Cameron was directed to act more creepy.

Zodiac is an incredible film and yes this show is very similar in tone and pace.

Must say I really thought the style of mindhunter was slick. I'm a firm believer that cinematography and music can maketh or breaketh a series/film

I see quite a few are not finding the series as amazing as others.

The entire shows weak point for me was Debbie, she was that one character that, when she came on screen, caused me to sigh and wish she'd bugger off again.

So imho if you hated Zodiac I don’t think you are going to really enjoy this as it’s very similar in style! I love Zodiac, it’s just a brilliant piece of filmmaking any time I come across it on TV I have to sit down and watch it, Inhave to say I was delighted with this as it reminded me so much of Zodiac. So the choice is yours you might find it enjoyable then again you might get bored of it pretty fast.

Just finished Season one and really enjoyed it. On the whole I thought it was excellent. The actors were mainly excellent with the exception of the one playing Holden's girlfriend who was as others have said annoying. Not as annoying as reaching the final episode and realising the wait I have for season two!!

Just finished the last episode, I loved this ... I didn't find Holden's girlfriend as annoying as others seem to ...
however I don't understand why nothing more ever came of him seeing her with the other lad!

Holden's gormless stare got on my nerves after a while.
I loved how his cockiness developed in the last couple of episodes, can't wait to see what he's like now in the next season after the scare with Kemper! No doubt it'll take him down a peg or two.

I don't really feel the same dislike for Debbie as a lot have expressed. I found their relationship seemed to settle quite quickly into the niggly bickering stage that can happen after a year or two...but I think season 1 probably covers less than a year? I found Holden quite self-centred in his single-mindedness and he seemed to want Debbie to be someone who always agreed with him and didn't question him, even though she's a smart woman who is studying a complementary field to his work.
I'm not sure why they chose to gloss over the reunion after her indiscretion!

This doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Zodiac.

It's a solid 6/10 show with nothing too ground breaking. Some of the dialouge is very weak and agree on the pointless girlfriend.

One of the episodes was only 35mins long, disgrace.
