I think Nova and the station it shares the building with now use the same pile of cd's.

Duran Duran and George Ezra in the last half hour..................over and under............I'm out....

Hey dude, you're a year late. Radio Nova was six years old a year ago.:D:D:D:D

This very thread starts with a post saying "radio nova is 6 years old today".

??? Does that limit every subsequent post to discussion of Nova's sixth birthday and nothing else??!

    Riiiight.

This is an absolute Twilight Zone of a thread. Utterly mental.

    1. He probably should have titled the thread "radio nova is 6 years old today" but there have been other threads about the station before. I would merge this with the first Nova thread but I don't know how it works.
    2. That "hey dude, you're a year late" reply was a jokey, light hearted one, with four laughy faces at the end.

Absolutely aghast today. One of those idiots on the morning show attempted to get listeners to vote in so he could play D-Ream, Things Can Only Get Better. He was so enthusiastic too. I do not know what the outcome was, I tuned out (never to return) and switched to Spotify. The station has serious problems.

It feels like some djs or maybe the playlist in general lately is being pushed away from the orginal rock format to the see how much they can get away with from the listenership, or certainly the ones who engage with them via text/social media etc.

Did you know that it was Prof Brian Cox who produced that D:Ream song? He's the short haired guy in the video playing the keyboard

By the way, happy sixth - sorry, seventh - birthday Nova :-):-):-):-)

Had a nice afternoon driving around Norway today with P6 on the radio. A sample -

    Crazy Train
    Holy Diver
    Enter Sandman
    The Trooper
    Radio Gaga
Pretty Fly For A White Guy
    When September Ends
    Summer of 69
    Roxanne
    Heart-Shaped Box
    Living After Midnight
    Black Hole Sun
    Africa
    With Or Without You
    Today
God Gave Rock And Roll To Me
    Another One Bites The Dust
    The Unforgiven
    Hallowed Be Thy Name
    Poison
    Money For Nothing
    Starlight
    Walk This Way

Some local rock as well of course.

I've generally defended Nova on here (generally), but it would be great to have a station with a play-list like that. Nova is maybe half-way there, but that still leaves the other half...

I've noticed that Nova is playing a lot of Annie Lennox early 90's solo singles and Eurythmics too !!

    That is a proper playlist!

Think the robot is back on but strange that he's on late Fri night. Where the feck is Davin?

You realise if nova were to play all of those tracks , you would need to be listening for about 5 hours to hear them all...and anyways 75% would'nt be on their playlist...:P

They're definitely conducting 'litmus tests' to see how far they can push the more radio friendly pop rock, or 'pock' as I like to call it. In fact, some of the stuff I've heard on there lately doesn't even fall into the rock spectrum at all ie: Alice Merton's No Roots. At this stage listening to the station is like playing a lucky dip. They can surprise you with a great track from time to time, but the remaining content is either overly repetitive or incongruous.

    Where's the squeaky news reader?
I noticed her missing, but haven't missed her, if you get my meaning.

Siobhain McDonnell? She's gone to Newstalk, I think. She's been gone from Nova for a couple of months at least now. Elaine Stenson has replaced her.

Only found out recently that she's the sister of Paul Stenson, the guy who runs the White Moose Café and gives out dogs abuse on Facebook.

Jesus if I hear that fùcking “Thunder” from Imagine Dragons or whoever it is again I’ll put my fist through the radio.

Have Nova on for the car commute into and out of work for the last couple of years after getting sick of all the bad news on Newstalk.

They’ve gone to hell, being neither one thing or another. They have lost their identity but haven’t gained another.

It’s their prerogative I suppose but it makes their smug self congratulating ads all the more galling when they are playing so much sh.

Marty Miller described it as "lyrically challenged" during a link last week. I get the impression that he doesn't like it either.

I started listening in the morning for similar reasons. Morning Ireland was dragging me down and the other morning shows were full of acting the maggot, which I wasn't interested in either. But that's all I listen to on Nova anyway. If I get the chance I'll tune in to John Clarke but I spend every second weekend in Arklow where I can't get Nova anyway, so often don't have the time.

Does the 95.7 transmitter not reach Arklow?

Or the residents of Greystones don't want to share.

Tried again here, nothing on my pocket radio. Might get something on a better radio though.

Requested Ace's "How Long" on last nights Nova Saturday Nights. They didn't have it.

All depends on what show you make the request. Ask PJ or Tony or Davin and they'll play almost anything you ask. But think the rest are stuck to whatever the heads think is appropriate.
