Wind has picked up a lot here in North Tipp since around 6.30 this evening. Had lulled to almost nothing.

I really doubt that it will have blown over the whole country by 12 tonight if it's still this bad in cork and limerick right now.

Howling gusts in Templeogue the last hour. Worse than it was earlier.

Still very strong gusts in D16.

Picked up here in rathfarnham now as well. As bad as in the afternoon. Now we are getting the tail of the storm( I believe) so should still be calm by the morning.

Proper storm here in North Kildare. We had a lull a few hours ago and now it feels almost as strong as did this afternoon.

In the town, has definitely picked up. Worst it’s been all day

Lol at the fella driving unaccompanied and taking pictures on his phone of Gardai dealing with a fallen tree in Dublin only to be spotted by them, court appearance on the way.

It's the arse of the storm, with the winds now coming from the SW veering westerly, as opposed to the earlier SE direction. Still, I didn't expect the gusts now to be the equal of the ones early, which they almost are.

Whatever else, this is one big-ass storm.

People like this man need to know that not everything is about them . Its about the risk that others might have needed to risk themselves if anything had gone wrong .
    Selfish , thoughtless behavour

Totally concur.....absolute retarded stuff he spouts about not panicking, benefits of sea swimming for mental health etc.....waves and winds don't differentiate between those who panic and those who don't or past experience in stormy waters....he obviously doesn't understand the risks to himself or those to the emergency services

Windier than it's been all day here in Drogheda at the mo. Have been lucky here so far.

Yeah we get that. And I fully agree. Rescuers shouldn't put themselves at harms reach for people like that.

Make a law that rescuers do not have to save people that willfully put themselves in danger.

Having said all that, I still admire the man. How did this country produce a Tom Crean?

Ironically, a play about Tom Crean has been cancelled tonight because of the weather.

MET extended the red warning to 01:00

Cork should see wind speeds dropping over the next hour. Dublin will still see a bit of wind 'til 03:00.
Donegal and coastal Mayo may see wind pick up for the first time today... but it's not going to be bad.

Looks like Mayo got away easiest. A few ESB customers down around Knock but basically untouched.
And that's the difference with a storm like this... it wasn't our usual winter storm sweeping from west to east and hitting Kerry, Mayo, Clare and Galway.
It's a swirling mass of air twisting around a low pressure center.
Heck... looks like much of the time it was heading up the west coast the storm was drawing in warmish dry air from the continent to the west coast.
It's only now that it's dying and drawing cold wet air from the north sea that it's throwing a bit of wind and rain at the northwest.

Don't think it was mentioned that a yacht had to be rescued 10 miles off the Wexford coast by the local lifeboat today.A crew of 3 on board got into difficulty about 10am. They were towed to the harbour and made it ashore at 2 pm.

Leixlip was particularly bad for the last hour. Has died a little.

Power out here in Aherlow since 11am. Wind still gusting but nowhere near was bad as earlier.
Fairly miserable here, no power, no heat, charging phones and tablets in the car.
So much debris down. Power lines, poles, trees.

What didn't fall with the big gusts will go with little effort.

Just seen a bit on the news saying it was 1961 the last time we were hit this hard. I think storm Darwin was similar to today. I don't remember such warnings about Darwin though.

I think Darwin was faster coming and going, took us by surprise to a certain extent, the first I heard of a red warning was around 7am that morning, the place (mid Kerry) was a mess by lunchtime.

This was not as bad as Darwin in our area (mid Kerry)

Eejits walking among the promenades on the news. Also scratching my head at the people who parked their cars on the waterfront in Salthill. What is wrong with these people?

Where will this storm/post hurricane go now? Will it just disperse somewhere or what?

I'd question your intelligence if you can admire a tool like this.....and the ****e he was quoted as saying about panicking etc. An absolute imbecile of highest order along with the other female who waded in up to her waste.

Headed North East over Scotland and dissipate over Norway/Sweden.
