Would you all advise against going for a run? I'm in Dublin and have cabin fever from being stuck inside all day.
Wind doesn't seem bad at the mo but not sure if the worst has passed?

Do you not have a tv or radio?

Cmon. At least try to pretend you are a competent troll. Parodying yourself midpost is just embarrassing.

Just put on a motorbike helmet you'll be fine.

You'll look like a dick but then again you more than likely are if you're going for a run in those conditions.

I've always wanted to look like a dick. Will take your advice re the helmet. Might being a rain jacket too

And yet despite the absolute nationwide destruction there is w@nkers still swimming in the sea in Galway

Some people simply can't handle a storm like this, it gets all the attention and they feel left out, so they go for a run, a walk or swim and then do the important part, which is to let you know about it.

What happened the man that died in Cahir?

I'd know his name but wouldn't have known him personally.

He was out on the Cahir / Ardfinnan road cutting a tree that had fallen / blocked the road and was hit by another limb of the tree falling directly onto him - nothing so graphic as an accident with a chansaw. I'm not sure if he was a member of the emergency services or not.

Not sure about this poor man that passed, but there was a guy in Marlfield cutting up fallen branches, collecting firewood. It takes all types.

Well said. Their attention seeking should be rewarded by a spell behind bars for endangering lives. Fúcktards.

Luas, Dublin Bus, Irish Rail - Not running
Flights - Ah sure it'll be grand

Mental. Majority of flights departed and landed (safely of course) at Dublin Airport today. Wind direction was favourable but still....

I wonder might we see some sort of counter-intuitive statistical thing where, even with those who've unfortunately been caught by the storm and killed, there's a net-benefit to mortality in the nation because there's fewer people leaving their houses?

Sort of the opposite of what happened post September 11th where everyone in the States took car journeys because they couldn't fly so there was a huge spike in deaths on the road.

Getting a yellow card for this post is preposterous. Completely joyless moderation.

Hi all. I'd like to personally thank everyone who contributed greatly to this thread. The tenacity, the brotherhood was deep. I fear we're not through the worst yet. I'd say up unti 2am tonight before there's a let up so be vigiliant, be safe. I ought warn everyone that I've been studying the charts and I suspect we're in for another storm Friday. Keep vigilant. Although Friday may not be as strong as todays storm if people let their guard down then it could be catastrophic. We did really well today despite the government being ridiculously slow to declare it unsafe for all employees to travel to work. We're very lucky that we didnt have a bigger disaster on our hands due to their slowness to act. But please remain vigilant into the weekend and dont take any unnecessary risks, only this morning i heard of hikers being rescued off a mountain. Weather like this is not a challenge. The challenge is to be well informed and make sensible decisions of how you act.
