Why so? The whole country was practically shut down and people still died

Do you genuinely think 300-400 people would have died without forcing the country's schools and businesses to shut down?

Anyone know what the story is when Ryanair haven't yet cancelled my 5pm flight? Seems some flights are departing Dublin airport somehow. If it leaves sometime tonight, do I have any recourse? I didn't even try and go to airport as would have a travel across the country?

Did you get notification that it was cancelled or contact the airline?
Don't see what recourse you would possibly have to be honest:confused:

Some are saying it's over, but some on here are saying the worst winds in Dublin will be between 5 and 7? Which is it? Can anyone clarify?

What I really want to know was how the boardsie who planned huddling with the kids in the downstairs toilet got on??

Did the curtains stop the debris coming through the windows?!

Ok, you're right, fair point, but its not unreasonable to say it would have been scores of people given how empty the roads were today all over country as a result of the warning/hype.

Have you contacted them to try to rebook. If you are a no-show there's no recourse.

    Shops are all closed, surely?

Just back from Centra on the Quays by the Haypenny Bridge. Opened and the café part full with people. Bit of a breeze about, rustling of leaves etc.

Went for a walk along the quays in Dublin, and along Dame Street. So quiet around, although pubs open and tourists lolling about. A bit of a breeze, but nothing you couldn't hold a newspaper up in

I know, I know, there can be a second coming etc... but is it really going to get any worse wind wise in Dublin, doesn't seem so to me based on the weather apps? Possibly a downpour?

My brother lives in Heuston South Quarter on the top floor. He said the wind was phenomenal. At a guess, you were being sheltered by all the buildings around you....

Being totally honest I don't think anyone really has a clue it's been all ifs and maybes for most of Dublin today.

Wind speeds way below what the met office were predicting, poor quality reporting.

The storm of hysteria around this weather is probably worse that the actual storm. Shows the power social media can give to idiots.

The fact you think that shows who the idiot is.

Thousands of esb poles, trees and debris everywhere. Roofs off supermarkets and schools.

You fill all those streets and building and see how many deaths you get.

But yeah all blown out of proportion. We should have had all the kids in school today.
Ummm no, I don't think so somehow.

    Then you're clueless. Good job.

There sure are some disappointed juvenile storm chasers out there after today.

However, if you were in the eye of it, you wouldn't be so happy.

Good call to close everything down today. Good call to close schools tomorrow too. Great forecasting by ME too.

Very sorry for the three fatalities, and that could have been so many more if schools were open.

Be glad it was not so much worse than anticipated. Although it seems to me that certain people will not be happy unless every bridge collapses, every roof sails away, and there are multiple casualties.

    Juvenile is right.

Earlier in the day. Sorry if I misread your post - thought you were implying city centre got no wind at all.

Seems to have calmed down a lot in parts of Dublin that got lots of wind earlier.

Was windy enough alright, but as you say the 'wind speed' predictions were way OTT.

Dunno why the schools are off tomorrow.

It just shows, if this is the worst weather event in 50 years, we're pretty lucky to live in this somewhat sh*tty boring climate really. No drought, no heatwaves that kill 1000s like they have in other countries, rarely get ice and snow. I shall still continue to complain about how awful our summers are for as long as I live here however.
