I picked worms earlier in this weather, great protein, just freeze them. Make the most of this weather folks.

You're in the north right? It hasn't hit you lot up there yet. 'This weather' is not the storm, it's barely even got to Dublin yet just some noticeable swirling winds (and I'm the other side of the mountain from Wicklow so on the southern edge). If you had tried that in Munster you'd be running the risk of literally having a whole roof fall on your head.
Because of the rain fall you got to make the most of it. Free bottled water instead of paying at Tesco.

I went into the back garden here in Stillorgan to rearrange the stuff that had blown around.
The little birds in the bushes were having a right discussion about the wind.

Poor little things - imagine how tightly they have to hold on with their teeny little claws

Haven't read the whole thread so maybe its already been mentioned but there was a couple of kite surfers rescued off the east coast by the coast guards.....what a shower of muppets given the warnings etc. Maybe it seemed fine at the time but who does that?? Not only did they put their own lives at risk, but they risked the lives of the coast guards too...hopefully they'll have to pay for the rescue...probably some hipster kids looking for something new to post on snapchat or whatever the kids are into these days.....
I'd fcuking leave them out there.

Don't mean to be pedantic but this isn't a hurricane. It's a storm.

We knew this last night and it has been clarified by Met Eireann that the 'ex-hurricane' refers to the structure only but it still carries with it hurricane strength winds and tropical rains.

So many here are trying to downplay the seriousness of this event and i don't know what they're trying to achieve.

...With category 2 hurricane speed winds.

If you are going to be pedantic you should go the whole hog with it.

It’s a storm in name only - it still has the strength and power of a hurricane. Why the persistent need to downplay events?

Get that inside, seriously. If it's anything at all heavy it could come flying in through the window and today is not the day to have a smashed window. If it can rip the roof off a gym or stadium and send it flying, there is nothing in your garden it can't send flying toward the house at 50+ kmph.
Just a wheelie bin that I had put on its side yesterday had rolled a few yards.
Everything is in a corner bounded on three sides by high walls and held in by heavy stuff. As much as possible was brought indoors.
Bring the bin in quick or it ll be like the finale of every episode of the Crystal Maze.

I have some custom wind chimes I made from old butcher knives hanging around the garden. Should I take these in?

There'll be very little wind inside, rendering them useless.

Note roof flying off school. Note to yourself "never offer advice to anyone again". Not only are you stupid you could be dangerous if one person choose your advice to ignore warnings.

When was Cork ever part of the East, as the poster stated?Read next time

    Ignore that statement.

    False news going around.

    Department to decide later.

    Apologies.

    Edit: confirmed. Schools closed.

    Whew!

I'm just back in after a thrilling 20 minutes dancing naked in the wind all around the garden. It was tremendously envigourating :D

(A word of warning though to anyone considering doing the same: a small twig driven by a gust punctured my left buttock, so be careful!)

The same poster was trying to convince people that a tree ripped up was just photoshopped and that slates getting ripped from roofs, and full roofs getting ripped off their walls was just shoddy workmanship. It really was remarkably irresponsible and as we've seen could literally get someone killed.

Parents of children who are walking the streets of Ireland right now well knowing there is very dangerous conditions outside, you are complete scum. You shouldn't be allowed raise animals never mind humans. Just seen a group of 5 feral looking kids no more than 11 or 12 years of age walk past my house in Dublin. Parents more than likely in the pub or bookies absolute clowns.

The poster said "absolutely no need to shut Colleges and Schools down especially in the east." Maybe the word 'especially' threw you but it never meant 'only'. Do you understand? You are also aware Lt. of terrible stories of carnage which have happened in the south east today. Why would we risk kids anywhere in the country for a days schooling? It makes just no sense.

Ach, it's passing the time, as I can't do anything outside, and it's taking my mind off the roaring breeze enveloping the house.
