Hurricanes are named after females because of how wet and wild they are when they come and the destruction they leave behind when they're gone. #fact

I thought it was because you think you're going to get a good blowing but in reality it's just meh.

What about the hole where the door is?

    Will expanding foam fill it?

You need to knock an equal sized hole in the direct opposite wall of the house.

The hurricane will blow straight through. Pressure is equalised.

What a joke of a country, I'd say the people of the Caribbean are laughing at us not even a CAT 1 level Hurricane and the place is shut down in mass hysteria, a few showers and wind.

Who gives a f*ck what they think? They deal with it every year, we don't.
What would they do in 3 feet of snow? What a joke they are, the eskimos would be laughing their seal skin socks off.

    Really?

    Laughing at us?

What is with this fixation about other countries laughing at us, every time something abnormal happens in this country?

It is *extremely* unusual for a country on this part of the planet to experience such extreme weather conditions, unlike some Caribbean countries, where it is more typical.

Relax, man. Nobody is 'laughing at us'. We're just adapting to what is, for us, an extreme weather situation.

It's a hurricane not just wind and rain.

    Why don't people get this?

There is people in Tesco right now stock pilling supplies ffs, some bad weather for a few hours is all that will be happening not some ripping hurricane or tornado, absolutely no need to shut Colleges and Schools down especially in the east.

The difference is, countries where this is likely weather are (supposed to) have infrastructure in place to deal with it.

This storm is unusual for this part of the world, so we haven't spent the billions to put into place the necessary safeguards. Our buildings aren't designed for it. Our networks aren't created with it in mind. We don't have teams trained or plans made to deal with a hurricane. Our people don't know what they should be doing in the event of hurricane winds. We have nowhere to evacuate to.

Maybe those of us concerned now will be a red-faced shower of thicks tomorrow night. Nothing would please me more. But we're shutting down because if this is bad, we as a nation are not equipped to handle it as are nations who deal with this sort of weather regularly, and there's nothing remotely embarrassing about that.

Its really not extreme, the headless chickens that are met eireann and the government has wet themselves with the first bit of a storm Ireland has seen in years, its not a Hurricane or wont be when it lands in Ireland due to the climate here its too cold to be any way dangerous.

Tell us more about your package holiday in the Dominican Republic.

I assume that's your angle here.

Look, international media are reporting that this is the most powerful storm this far east of the US on record. We aren't used to this kind of weather (and yes, it is extreme, in this part of the world), so we're taking precautions.

I am struggling to understand why exactly this bothers you so.

Experts havent a clue they are being over cautious, I'll be going about my day as normal tomorrow with zero fear of a big bad ''hurricane''.

I travel to the Caribbean every year will be heading again in 2 weeks, these types of storms are daily occurrences to islands with wooden shacks and they go about their business, Ireland has crapped itself (well the idiots in tesco now stock piling)

Most people in the Caribbean are in no mood for laughing, since the hurricane season left about half of them homeless this year.

There's no reason for these places to provide services and risk litigation when they can just close for the day.

I highly doubt anyone in the Caribbean gives a crap. Someone in Ireland tomorrow is likely to have their life turned upside down forever and you won't give a shlte either.
