Apparently not, from what I have heard two players have been identified from CCTV pictures and are or have been interviewed. Really hope it all BS but if found to be true it will cast a serious shadow over not only Clare hurling but the entire organisation.

What kind of rumours, without stating specifically what they are?

Happened in the club football championship . Last year where a set of players bet against themselves in a local bookies. No one was charged and was swept under the carpet

It happens the whole time and it's ignored cause it's a small scale, this time however it's the bookies who are investigating, the rumours I'm hearing is that the father of 1 of the players put a substantial bet on in Limerick and the bookies took a bit of a hit

What a start to the academic year for St. Flannans College. Victories for the Ennis school in U15 A Football and U16.5 A hurling 1st round matches and today in the Harty Cup Round 1 (U18.5 A Hurling), they defeated Castletroy CC by 2-11 to 0-10 in Sixmilebridge today. Well done to one and all!

Confirmation that Pat Donnellan has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling becoming the third Clare player in the last week or so to hang up their boots after Colin Ryan and Brendan Bugler. Pat comes across as an absolute gent and his acceptance speech after All-Ireland glory in 2013 was truly inspirational where he clearly showed his passion for Clare and what it meant to him being captain of the team on that special day for Clare people throughout the county and the world. Best of luck Pat on your future and I wish you every success whatever path you choose in your next phase of your life.

Check the 2 semi finals and figure out which 1 had the bigger shock result

Sorry Clareman - being stupid here but did it happen in this years hurling or last year's football or both..

You'd think that would rip clubs apart

this years hurling championship at semi final stage is the one being discussed , as he said the major elephant in the room would be the shock result of that round

something similar happened in the early stages of the football championship last year but not on the same scale as this new story emerging

the football thing last year was just a few disgruntled players not happy and low on confidence bet against themselves as they felt they had no hope of wining the game , they won no game that year and were relegated the club was in a bad place and the players gave up fairly early in the year , the guards were called in to investigate it but nothing came about it

in the hurling this year a father of one of the players bet against his sons team , the team they were playing were massive outsiders and won , which has the bookies smelling a rat

Sad to hear that we won't see Pat Donnellan in Clare colours again. His time probably has come, but he was a truely outstanding servant for Clare, an excellent hurler, a leader and a gent. I wont make it a long post, but I'd like to share a of Pat from 2013 in the gif below. Its a small one, but think it epitomized the guy's leadership, desire, just sheer die in your boots type player he was for our county.

We're a point down in the drawn 2013 AI final, and Pat's after playing 71 minutes in midfield, the most endurance-demanding position on the field. Cathal Naughton after just coming on and a guy with serious wheels, takes off with the ball with an acre of space in front of him. Pat, probably completely jaded, matches him stride for stride before getting a flick in. The play might not have came to anything if he let him go but still, it showed just how much of a true servant Pat was for our county and left nothing on the field.

Just to finish Bugs, Ryan and Donnellan owe Clare hurling nothing and represented our county with distinction through their careers.

Bookmaker's will always look into anything that costs them money, from my experiences they are extremely cowardly about exposing themselves to any kind of loss,
You are inferring that a Clonlara players father went into a Limerick city betting shop to back Clooney, have you anything to back this up ?

I think the bookies know when to spot unusual trends which are an indicator that something isn't quite right. They're not going to chase after every pay out and I'd imagine the sums involved here were quite small, relatively speaking.

You are the first person to mention the name of a club which "might" have been involved in something. Are you saying it definitely didn't happen?

From reading the posts on this thread , it is abundantly clear which game and therefore which team the allegations refer to.

Of course I have no evidence, and that's why I wouldn't question the good name of any club, is there any substance to these rumours bar something that was started on an often mischievous twitter/Facebook account ?

The substance is that it's rumoured and that is the context in which it's being mentioned here. Not taking it as gospel but not ignoring said rumours either.

I would be very slow to run with any rumours of this nature without having very solid backup, ie official confirmation of an investigation or press statement.

Kilmurry Ibrickane 2-10 Cratloe 2-9 AET

So the men from Quilty qualify for a 2nd successive Clare senior football championship final after an incredible one point win over the South-East Clare men. To be honest the quality of the game left an awful lot to be desired but you could not question the desire of both teams. For KIB I thought that Keith King, Dernot Coughlan, Michael Hogan and Marty McMahon led what seemed like the impossible with KIB 2 points down at half-time in extra-time to come back the way they did. Fair dues to them.

As for Cratloe I thought that Sean Collins and Cathal McInerney were best in what was a bitterly disappointing defeat for Cratloe. I thought their shooting and their inability to find that killer instinct in the final third of the pitch left an awful lot to be desired.

So the men of red of green will find out their opponents tomorrow as Miltown take on Clondegad. Jack Daly may well stay in Quilty for another year. As one excited KIB fan put it. "there's life in the old dog yet"

the young players for cratloe were really good also , the likes of bill connors, rian considine and killian ryan , to be fair both teams will feel they could improve i taught it was a bit of a snatch and grab job by quilty

keelan sexton was pretty much non existent and kicked some poor wides , peter o'dwyer is some man though he cant be far off 40 and has dragged kilmurry out of another fire

KIB will have to improve ten fold to beat any of the two teams playing tomorrow but everyone out side of ballynacally/ballyea wants to see a KIB v Miltown final in fairness;)

They are in a final and have every chance but the Bridge have been brilliant the last couple of years and I can't see them being caught, if there's less than a goal in it with 5 minutes to go I'd nearly back Clooney.

Hopefully the conditions will stay OK for the match.

Clondegad won, Miltown v KIB would have been very interesting

A draw is probably the fairest result for both teams, I don't know if either deserved to win but I don't think either deserved to loose

Bruiser's catch at the death was fairly iconic :pac:

Decent game, was very tit for tat through the second half. CQ has pace around midfield, thought they were able to expose the Bridge for it on occasions. Deasy made an impact when coming on for the Bridge at half time to help. The CQ main guys really stood up and led their team well. They will have another god shot at it next time.

    Next week replay?
