Why did it take 20 years?? Were you happy to waste all that money on cigarettes for 20 years????

You're failing (willfully or otherwise) to grasp the point which is price or the high cost of tobacco is a huge motivator to stopping.

Its not the only reason smokers want to cease but its a huge motivator to making smokers want to stop.

Clearly addiction will cause a compulsive need to smoke and that is a symptom of nicotine addiction but reasons for wanting to stop are the catalyst to stopping and price is most certainly a huge motivator.

A high price is also prohibitive for children buying them so also for that reason a additional 5er should have been put on the packet in my view.

You're simply wrong, like it or not ........... high prices for cigarettes are an excellent deterrent for people who are considering smoking for the first time but has no effect on a heavy smokers addiction whatsoever.

Dont get me started on the pringles man, the supposed reason for the price hike is they were 190g now are 200g yet the packets are the same size and weight as before so they are blatantly robbing us :(

It’s your own bleeding fault for eating Pringles. Horrible yokes.

Unfortunately the World Health Organisation disagrees and their published studies which are available online show a clear correlation between increased tobacco price and decreased consumption.

Quicker to cheaper to cross the boarder

There'll be no duty free at border between northern Ireland and Republic. But no issue buying in NI itself - only problem is price is near identical @ £10.50

I worked in an off licence years ago and we done a stock take once a month. I was told not to bother with the cigarettes when doing the stock take as they made so little on them it wasn’t worth the time or effort. I think there’s only a few % profit on them for the retailer, about 20% for the manufacturer and the rest is excise/tax.
Someone told you not to count the high value stock!
Always count the high value stock. If you are on the fiddle that is what you steal.

The price of cigarettes have very little impact on people who currently smoke. I mean its economics 101. They are an inelastic product. A large increase in price has a small decrease in consumption. Again they are a legal drug.
