Is Tom Farrell playing now? It's just I met him at the Citywest Hotel 3 weeks ago and aside from the fact that he's nearly 50 now, he's also got a savage gut on him.

i think you will find if you watch the provinces play regularly there is a Tom Farrell lining up for connacht.

And despite having typed your name before, I presume everyone else here still just pronounces it in their head as McFeeling?

Henderson putting on a show here. For me he's first choice at lock for Ireland at this point.

You can't ignore the line out malfunctions though. Especially given how important that set piece is to Ireland. Toner needs to show well there tomorrow. If he does then it's an easy selection in the row.

    Very controversial comment below.

We should drop Sean O'Brien for the Autumn. If we can't bet on Sean O'Brien being available for big games(and with his injury profile we cant) we should make a sustained effort to give his replacement as much experience as possible.

    This.
    Exactly.
I'm not sure if Henderson will ever get to the point of being lineout caller, nor Irish captaincy (plenty of reference made to this in the Ulster thread tonight...premature much?)

I love Henderson. Think he's brilliant. But from what I hear, he's a follower (and a good one) not a leader.

Right now it's a Henderson/Toner row for me.

Henderson has been calling the lineout for a while now, didn't he call it against England in March? He's definitely been calling it for Ulster for about a year now.

I don't think this is a big deal at all tbh. They all have to know the calls, I don't think it really matters who shouts them out.

Yes. They made specific reference to it in the coverage. They said that's why he started with Wyn Jones initially, in case he needed some friendly advice.

    Something has to change alright.
He used to be Mr indestructible pre disclocated shoulder v Ulster Christmas ’13.
But even Sam Warburton has played more games than him!

    SOB: Games: Tests - 54 Club -111. Age: 30 and a bit
    SW: Games: Tests - 79 Club – 105. Age: 29

Both made their 6N debuts in 2010
& as we know only too well Warburton is always ready to go come the 6N

    Proposal
6 month playing window for SOB (Dec-May) With the likes of Van Der Flier, Leavey, Murphy et al picking up d slack

I actually agree with you...but for some reason this has become a big thing in the last year or two...2 or 3 years ago no one ever spoke about who called the lineout, now it's talked about all the time.

Probably because Ireland’s lineout went from being great to being a liability around that time, and people don’t really know who to blame!

Ah it was. It wasn't mentioned when POC was available and undisputed caller but it has always been a factor.

The year that POC was out and we had McCarthy and Ryan starting at lock, it came under a lot of scrutiny.

When was that? I was thinking that was about 3 years ago, but in hindsight it was before the 2013 Lions tour wasn't it, because it cost Best his initial selection.

Yeah I suppose it was never an issue because we all knew who called the lineout for 10 years.

Anyway I don't think there is any debate that Toner and Henderson will be the second row in the Autumn.

    Henshaw is a13

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,864 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Henshaw may be better at 13 but he's also the best 12 in the country as well. And personally I think Ringrose is a better outside centre.

He can't. And Ringrose can't do what Henshaw does. They're different types at 13.

Ringrose has better feet and is much quicker.

Henshaw has very good feet and isn't a slouch, he's very intelligent and it's terrible to have him as a battering ram

Henshaw 12 Ringrose 13 gets the two best centres on the island in the team. The two best 13s but also one of them is the best 12

Whether Henshae at 13 may work for the national team is still in question I do not see it working for Leinster.

If it doesn't work for Leinster how much will it matter to Ireland that Henshae isnt playing 13?
