Will Dermot Connolly be out of prison in time for the next game ?

You could at least get the name and sport right.

Great performance. Great win. Lucky Bale out and Allen off early. Hope Neil Taylor crying in his cornflakes.

This is way bigger than the time we beat New Zealand in a rugby friendly that meant absolutely nothing but the middle class went nuts anyway!

Where? Most, if not all posts are discussing the game and permutations. Did you even read the thread?

As a solicitor yourself I agree.

No such thing as a friendly in rugby ...world ranking points apply.

World rankings apply in soccer as well for friendlies but in rugby for some reason beating anyone in the Southern Hemisphere is deemed as a monumental achievement when it happens in an Autumn international.

A lot of what the soccer team has achieved in the last few years is a lot more impressive than what the rugby team has but you wouldn't guess that from the way the media go on.

And totally irrelevant to the point I made

Portugal win tonight would put Switzerland in the play offs instead which is what I am hoping for as a NI supporter and would like to see ROI do well too.

Layperson question here: why are the playoffs seeded? If the groups were seeded then surely it should be a random draw for the playoffs because everyone made second place on their own merits and with a level playing field.

Is it all down to filthy lucre?

Pretty much, helps bigger countries with bigger tv audiences that bring in more money.

Imagine being so self obsessed to record yourself watching a match, so you can show others on social media how great your celebrations are (which are really no different to other celebrations and about as noteworthy as a hole in a biscuit). Well, these lads did. I'd say they're gas craic altogether.

Well that’s a random aside! :pac: Unless it’s completely separate to your reply to me?

Oh very separate. Saw it doing the rounds just before I replied to your post, so got shoehorned into reply.

Shtop. I mean, I like social media but some people are so depressingly obsessed with it. I don’t know how anyone would even think to record that in the moment. People like that are not experiencing things fully. Portraying fun is more important to them than living it.

Edit: sweet jesus, they have a camera set up.

That's two of your posts I've thanked in the space of 5 minutes. Something feels...off.

I was on a real high last night after the excitement in Cardiff but watching the highlights programme after the match soon brought back down to earth as reality set in.
I heard two names mentioned, one was Modric and the other was Rakitic. God help us if we draw Croatia!

Or Italy, or Portugal (if they make it)

We're not seeded so it's not going to be an easy draw regardless....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They really are horrible to watch, antifootball stuff. But I suppose who cares when we get results.

The draw for the playoffs is seeded unfortunately.

We'll most likely play one of these. Swiss/Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Denmark.

Also great to see Iceland top their group and become the smallest country (pop) ever to qualify for the finals.

We should copy what they did with the indoor youth leagues (every parish in Ireland has a hall to facilitate this) and maybe in 20 years time we could have a half decent footballing side like they do.

    The GAAA wouldn't like that.

We can only hope it's Denmark. When is the draw?

Half time: Portugal 1 Switzerland 0.
Lets hope they go on to win it, I'd rather NOT see Ronaldo & co at the Aviva next month!

Great that Ireland managed to get into an advancing spot on the 2nd place table, just ahead of the Slovakians and slightly behind the Souvlakians.

My preference would be in this order
    Denmark
    Switzerland
    Croatia
    Portugal
    Italy
