Maybe you could get a maker of GPS units to sponsor the Mayo team. The slogan options are endless...

"Garmin - Helping the Mayo footballers find The Promised Land since 1951" would be my favourite.

Perhaps we could have a competiton to find the best one? Mayo folk had GREAT fun with those over in the Dubin thread.

Ah com'on. You can't blame Leeroy for thinking that Rock might want his GPS. All the other Dubs were trying to get their hands on them.

Haha this travelling rumour goes around every single year!

And every year a few of them quietly slip away for a few months after the club champs. Cillian went a few years back. Nothing major. Helps reset the mind and recharge the batteries.

Id say the Dubs were more set on the Celtic Crosses.
They don't GPS', they're well used to finding their way around Croker without them!!

Don't need yours boss. Samsung is the official navigation partner of Dublin GAA. Always gets us to where we need to go, by fair means or foul. :D

Thanks mate. What Mayo player do you think is most likely to win this years GPS Player of The Year Award?

Clarke will now have to rethink his kick outs. Now that they have to go past the 20m line.

Some unbearable nonsense on this thread, glad I unfollowed after the final. The Dubs clearly using the GPS incident to take the spotlight off their shenanigans over that final kick-out.

    Cracking contest in MacHale Park.

    Knockmore 2-11 Westport 1-9

Quality contest,Knockmore deserved winners. They got the scores much easier than Westport, impressive fluidity. An impressive forward line on display.Their experience and physicality told in the contest.Fascinating watching Leeroy track Kevin Mc all day!

Knockmore by some distance the most impressive team on display today. No shame in it for a very youthful Westport who are likely to compete strongly in the not too distant future.Niall McManamon was very impressive.

    Crossmolina 2-13 Ballinrobe 1-10

No where near as good a contest,Ballinrobe raced out of the traps in the first half with Donie Vaughan their star man but the Deel Rovers picked up the pace in a one sided second half. Both sides guilty of missing numerous easy opportunities during the contest. The evergreen Peadar Gardiner ran himself into the ground,Fionnan Duffy was hit and miss with the placed balls.I was expecting a bit more from the great hope Conor Loftus.

How was Peter Nuaghton for Knockmore?

How was Peter Nuaghton for Knockmore?

He played very well,a constant threat.I did not keep a track of all the scores TBH,certainly got one great score from play and a few great placed balls if I recall correctly. The whole Knockmore forward line was very impressive,Keith Ruttledge stood out too.A very mobile unit.Every bit as impressive as on their run in to the county final last year.
    Breaffy 6-14 Ballaghaderreen 1-9
    Hollymount-Carramore 2-11 Davitts 1-10

    Garrymore 2-16 Charlestown 1-17

So Breaffy,Hollymount-Carramore,Ballina,Castlebar,Knockmore and Garrymore are into the quarter finals

i was surprised last year at the level of players that were not making the
    county team

Kerry and Mayo probably have the highest standard club football if you look at senior, intermediate, junior, u21and the fact u21 is fully operational. Mayo has the best run and most competitive u21 club championships in the country.

The highest standard of club football is senior.

Cork have 11, Dublin have 8, ... Mayo have 2.

    Next :)

Not necessarily true.Take some of the most successful club teams in the modern era,Nemo, Crossmaglen, Portlaoise, Eire Og etc .With the exception of Nemo it's hard to argue that any of the others were from counties where the standard was high. They just were lucky enough to have great pools of players to pick from at the time, and waltz through their county championship.

No denying Dublin club championship is strong,I'm just saying it's not essential for a successful Club at all ireland level to come from a county where the standard is high.

    It was strange exclusion!

Mayo club SFC is elite, no doubt, which is reflected in county team.

Anyway, only hanging around to see response from certain chap, not being bold!

I don't think the format in Dublin helps its Clubs, with it being knockout from 32 clubs. A half decent Mayo Senior Club should be getting at least 4 tough matches each year (3 group and QF) and they'll be at it for the year, before and after intercounty.

The All Ireland Club Champions were finished senior football in April after being beaten by Plunketts. Who were themselves out in early May. Some seriously talented players / squads there doing sfa for most of the year. If my understanding is correct, Ballyboden will be unseeded next year and will be up against it in the round of 32 stage. Win a Senior Club AI in 2016 and playing 2 championship games in 2 years being a possibility... ridiculous really.

My point on Kerry and Mayo was more the good standard and well operating programme of games from senior to intermediate to junior to club u21.
Dublin have 32 senior clubs. It covers a big % of the available pick given the scale of some of the larger clubs.
Take for example Castlebar. A successful club at underage and senior. But the boundaries hold pretty firm to Breaffy (some suburbs), Ballintubber and Parke.
Parke are getting a lot better at underage.
So theres four decent teams in suburbs and inclusive of Castlebar itself.
An adult footballer this year and in the next few years has plenty good standard games regardless of which of those clubs located in.
I just think Mayo gets decent football played by the maximal amount of available players within the county.

    Fair enough and good point.

Dublin had a ridiculous system that went on for ever. Had to change it as inter county teams were making it almost impossible to finish it.

Straight knock out now means that you get big shocks - like the Brogans Plunketts going out early - but much better games. There was 4,000 on Friday for first quarter finals and probably more yesterday. Semis will be sellout. And if Vinnies and Ballymun get to the final you would want to be there early.

Mayo system makes sense. I cant claim to understand Kerry! Two semis are Crokes and Kerins v two divisional teams made up of players from clubs that were knocked out earlier. Hasn't done them any harm I suppose but strange all the same

Yeah, but the flip side of that, is that well over half the 32 clubs are just cannon fodder for the 6-8 clubs that could realistically win the Dublin championship any given year. The vast majority of clubs are in way over their heads. Getting hammered every year, does them no good at all. Every year, the same relatively small handful of clubs get to the quarters and beyond. Twenty odd clubs get one or two games and then that it is, their year is over in April or May. No club champo until the following year. That does them no good at all, in developing by playing other teams at their level. For every Castleknock that makes the break through, there are a couple of dozen more clubs that will do sweet eff all this year.

Mitchels and Knockmore play Sat eve too in Ballina.

Think Ballina are on Sunday but can't remember where.
