Was looking at justeat and found a new spot on McCurtain st. called "The Hand of Fatima". Greek/Middle eastern food. Anybody know anything about this place? Food is right up my alley. Might sample it tonight.

That's run by the same family that own Sultan on penrose wharf (they are all brothers - Toufiq runs the shop).

The McCurtain Street shop is called something Sultan Delight (they sell teas and baklava etc) and also hold cookery classes (went to 1 two weeks ago). For some reason they trade on just eat as hand of Fatima. The kitchen is below the shop :)

Cafe Velo seem to have stopped evening servings again. We had a booking, which they cancelled but then offered to book us elsewhere, and comped a couple of bottles of wine by way of apology - nice touch!

Been into sonny's deli a couple of times recently. Tried a sandwich and some of their salads. All savage.

Yeah, seems to have been an experiment that failed, unfortunately. It's just that bit out of the way at night, I think. And still feels like a cafe rather than a restaurant.

It's hard to find non blitzed soup in Ireland, I think. Best bet is probably an Italian for ministrone or maybe Cafe Mexicana.

I love a good broth based soup with bits but nearly everywhere passes (cheffy term) their soup.

They have a noodle bar on Mahon and Douglas markets (standing looking at it now) equally savage... Pho bó... Beef, noodles in broth my fave...

Where can I buy quesadillas in Cork please? I've tried a few of the Mexican places but can't seem to find them! Thanks

Tequila jacks do a breakfast quesadilla, and they have them as starters on the evening menu.

There's been several different restaurants in the venue at the bottom of Shandon Street. The previous offering was a Georgian fast food outlet which was intresting, if not outstanding.

What's there now is called BBQ House. It's not a genuine BBQ place like White Rabbit, Bad Boys or Holy Smoke but rather a fast food grill restaurant. They do pizza, falafel, burgers, kebabs etc.

I've been twice and had the same thing both times - grilled chicken leg. It's a boned leg of chicken with the skin on. It's cooked from raw to order with crispy skin and served with chips, a little side salad and a very tasty chilli sauce. It's really simple, fresh and lovely. I can't think of anywhere else that I can get a freshly cooked leg of chicken.
    Downside: chips are only alright.
    Upside : it costs €6!

I had a gorgeous burger in the Weir Rooms (River Lee Hotel) during the week. Our table was on the terrace and there was a distinct holiday feel about it... shame we there after work. :) Lovely staff too.

I was there once and had the lamb. Have to say it was very good and very very cheap! Perfect spot to have a quick bite to eat before going across to the cinema. Shame they are always so quiet, I'd like to see them do well but restaurants just don't seem to survive too long in that spot.

Went to the Oyster Tavern for the first time the other day and was really impressed. I thought it was decorated beautifully, the staff were really pleasant and friendly, and I had the nicest burger I've had in a very long time.

Was that the quzi you had? It looks good on the menu.
I see they also do lamb chops for €7.

Pity I'm trying to eat less red meat these days.

I was there recently too and thought the chips were great! I love skin on chips. Nice and crispy.

I got the mix grill plate. "Skewers of diced lamb, chicken taouk, beef kofta, mince lamb shish served with hummus, salad, chips & bread."

It was nice enough. I do enjoy a good plate of grilled meats. I noticed there was no hummus and asked him where it was. He said they don't do it anymore as it wasn't cost effective or something like that. They still have it on the menu though. Even on just eat.

Then when I was walking home looking at the photo of the food I noticed I never got the beef kofta either.

I may or may not go there again.

It was the lamb chops that I got, I enjoyed them. I actually thought the chips were great too.

I didn't get skin on crispy chips.
I got slightly under done skinny frozen chips. Not terrible, not great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,251 ✭✭✭sporina

had soup from Del Cafe today and it was terrible - roast vegetable - but blitzed!! I expected it to be non blitzed - usually roast veg soup it not - and it was soooooo salty that my mouth was burning.. and my take out tub was just about half full - for €3.50 - and no bread with that....

twas my first time in there - i am reluctant to go back - I probably won't

    De Calf?

Usually find their soup fantastic. Love their potato and chicory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,036 ✭✭✭✭the beer revolu

TBH, I can't imagine roast vegetable soup not being blitzed, unless I made it myself and then I could go either way.
