I thought Uncle Jim said something very interesting about the GAA being a niche sport to cover and why you don't see much crossover between GAA and Rugby/Soccer commentators, apart from Darragh Maloney I can't think of any other Soccer/Rugby commentators that have covered GAA, I know Ger Canning does the Costa Rica vs South Korea type World Cup games, apart from that it seems the same the other way round.

Glad Eoin pushed him on it.

Just be glad that Ger Canning doesn't get to do much more. He is my least favourite soccer commentator by far.

From speaking to people with some internal experience of our national broadcaster, it seems that within the sports dept. the GAA section has a very particular house style (e.g. the winning team's score is given first, rather than the home team's) and that any crossover with other sports is discouraged.

Ken quoting José: "The only music I understand is when my opponent tells me to go to a place"
    Eoin: Go to a place?
Ken: I think he means **** off, Eoin.

I cracked up at this. Top notch interaction.

The report on sport was top notch today. Kens holiday tale was good as well. Was freaking out that no one questioned Ken about his trip at the start. Would have liked to know why he was there etc

Ken with another dig at murph not paying his dues about kens face

    Will Gilesy be present?

I would happily pay at least a tenner to hear that.

I've said it before elsewhere, but Dunphy is like a different better man entirely on his pod. I'd love to hear the two of them go at it.

excellent Pod indeed. there's great natural banter between the lads, the total opposite to the forced OTB Kilbane/Molloy dynamic.

"Dejan Lovren has had some issues in his personal life"

Apparently not involving the player having an extra-marital affair. No doubt much to the regret of the tabloids, as I bet they've had the headline 'DEJAN LOVE-RAT!' lined up for years...

Enjoyed Kens latest political podcast. Good food for thought!
I enjoyed it as well. Some interesting points and well balanced. It is starting to improve I feel, and is moving on from Ken just glibly dismissing people with opposing viewpoints without giving them a right of reply.

Still waiting for a hard hitting political pod on, for example, Islamic terrorists or the Black Lives Matter movement in the US.

I really hope this Ken Vs. Dunphy doesn't become a thing. It's good for a funny jingle but it shouldn't go past that.

Why? It would be like Mayweather and McGregor. Dunphy would go in thinking he could win but really has no chance against Ken.

However, Dunphy may just not care about any stat Ken brings up. So I wouldn't be sure how it would go.

I can see them building it up a good bit and then hopefully they do it. The first 10/15 min of the podcast were great yesterday. Properly laughing at the Snoop Dogg song jingle. :D

Listening to that piece with Dunphy, I'd say it would descend pretty quickly into Dunphy roaring and shouting about how Ken has never played, and no real attempt by Dunphy to engage with actual arguments (as opposed to what he's projecting into what he thinks Ken has to say), facts or, gawd forbid, statistics. It would be lapped up by the hard of thinking.

It totally depends on which Dunphy turns up. A mate recommended his podcast and said it shows a different side to him and I have to agree. He is much better on his podcast. If you get that Dunphy rather than the "showbiz baby" Dunphy then it could be good.

Dunphy has been on 2nd captains before - and he came across really well (he was one of their first interviews), so I'm sure he'd be up for playing a role depending on what angle they decide to take.

Live show with tickets to sell maybe?

It always bothers me when old "I've managed to stay alive for 63 and a half years, baby" tries to call anyone out for bluffing.

To me he sounded very tired and emotional on the clips they played from Game On.

A live show would make too much of a spectacle of it...I'd rather a serious one to one chat in a more intimate setting.

+1 on this. In a live environment "Showbiz" Dunphy would be present and the whole thing would go off the rails quickly. Whereas, if he was invited on SC for a general chat/debate, then it would be a more controlled and informative.

Yeah it has been very good.

Do people care about Frank Murphy though? Had to skip that.

I keep listening to the end of the pod they had when Ken responded to Dunphy. The bit where they are talking about the guy in the stands with the laptop ("some blodless freak") has me in stitches.
