Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A chocolate advent calendar with cocoa gin and salted caramel vodka. I think I'm in love.

I saw an article yesterday where Aldi are bringing out wine, prosecco & I think the other one was gin advent calendars this year...

I will totally get a prosecco one if it's available in Irish shops!!

Hi everyone, has anyone gotten a manual advent calendar? Look what I found on AliExpress
http://s.aliexpress.com/Nv6Fnqye Is what I’m looking at. I have a 2.5 year old and would need to think what to put in it as I’d prefer not to get him one with all chocolate!!

I love the idea of the manual calendar, that would be so much fun to do and for the recipient to open as well :)

The Look Fantastic advent calendar is available for pre-order https://www.lookfantastic.com/beauty-box/lookfantastic-advent-calendar-2017-worth-over-300.00/11194782.html

I would love to get a Jo Malone or Liberty of London Advent calendar, but they are so expensive. The Estée Lauder one for this year looks great.

I want to get one of the Aldi ones, the one that has a mixture of red, white, rose and fizz. Think it would be such a fun one :D

Can't believe I'm joining the Christmas conversation already, but I saw this beard oil Advent Calendar, and I want to buy it NOW for my OH. :)

Seems they're out of stock, but hopefully they'll come back for this Christmas. Would be perfect for himself. Except I want it NOW. :pac:

    Isn't it though!!

I've just sent thebeardedman company an email to see if they'll be doing it again this year. I'd imagine they will, but I'll update when I hear back. Already excited at the thought - just a perfect pre-Christmas present! :D

Haribo calendars bought for the childers this year. There's Lego all over the place from the previous 2 years, and I've no money for an extension.

I'll be getting the star wars Lego calendar for the little dude again this year. He saw it in the shops the other day but I'll have to wait til payday because it's about €30! I had the Yankee candle one last year but I think I'll give it a miss this year because the two big calendars took up a lot of room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,380 ✭✭✭chuckles30

ooh I must keep an eye out for the yankee one again.....thanks for the reminder :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

I was a little disappointed in the yankee calendar last year because it was literally 4 scents and just repeated. Shame really.

That really is disappointing because I was going to get one this year. I'm glad you said that!

    Hey all

Just to update, I got a reply from The Bearded Man (company, not some hairy person :)), and these will be released again in October - date to be confirmed.

Same here. And their tealights are tiny, they burned out in no time. I got the calendar on a discount, I think I paid €13 for it, bit if I'd paid full price I'd be annoyed.

Have to say though, the Lego star wars calendar was absolutely great value!

    Guys I need your help.

I need to get a reusable calendar. Can be Christmas themed or not, makes no difference.

Need it as part of a pressie.

Needs to be decently sized to fit bits and pieces in.

I can't find anything suitable, can only find ones that fit small things in, but I need something slightly bigger :/

Have any of you seen anything at all that might be suitable, that is bigger than regular calendars? If you have seen or do come across anything could you post here or PM me please? I'd really appreciate it! <3

EDIT: Something like this where box #1 and #24 are bigger than the rest.

StripedBoxers I had a quick look on Amazon and there seems to be a few... Not sure if that's helpful but I find Amazon deliver most things (so long as it's fulfilled by Amazon) within a week or so.

Also, FYI I was in Lidl today and in the clothing section they have a sock advert calendar. Quite quirky, you basically get 12 pairs of (Christmas themed) socks, in a random order, over the month. 1 sock a day.

I really REALLY want one. :pac:

Thanks a mill, Amazon (and eBay) are my first port of call for things like this and while they have calendars, the drawers aren't big enough for what I'd like to put in some of them. :/

May look at advent calander wall hangings boxer. They may have more room. Try etsy.

I got a similar house style one in Ludlum last year for school. I popped a surprise in each box and the kids got to open the box on a particular day. It was cream in color and I think there may have been a light (only discovered when putting up in storage!)

Thank you all so so much for your help. I will check out your suggestions now.

If it comes to it, I can take what I am putting in to it out of their original packaging, hopefully I won't need to, but if I have to I will do it as a last resort.

Or if you are really stuck, you could put in a note/hint in the calendar and hide the actual gift somewhere else - like a little treasure hunt :D

I received the candle advent calendar today. Unfortunately a bit beat up in the post but all the candles survived. I have it in the wardrobe with the hidden Christmas gifts. I might have to move it. The gorgeous scent of Christmassy candles is a dead giveaway :D

I really want this, but is €70 too much?!

I had in my head it would be about 50, not sure why. I think I read it somewhere?!

Ah well, a week in it'll be discounted so I'll just have to get it then and double up on days until I've caught up ;)

It does seem like a lot for an Advent calendar but it works out at about €2.92 per bottle!

I think it is £50 sterling? Would it explain it being €70.

Dunno would it last a week tbh. I can't see it lasting that long but I dunno. It might well do.

Great way of justifying it :pac:

    Still tho...€70.
