haha! Yeah they're a well spec'd out car. I must take a spin in this one he's getting tomorrow myself.

I'd love the 4 clubsports on my driveway even more though :D

I'd never driven a DSG box but it was very impressive.

Deadlocks. When car is locked with key you can’t open it from the inside.

I became a GTI owner this week :)

Everything about the car is better than I expected. It sounds unreal, even better than what I got from countless Youtube videos and the alloys look a lot better in person too as I wasn't too keen on them in photos!

I only have one unexpected issue

I'm really paranoid that someone will try to steal it. Does this feeling go away? (please say yes :D) I know we can't live our lives worrying about things that might or might not happen, but this is really getting to me at the moment which is very disappointing considering I should be feeling like a kid at Christmas! Anyone else go through anything like this or am I a fool to be even thinking about it?

    Cheers!

Congrats, well wear, post a few pics up. What spec did you get?

Not foolish at all really. Scroll back a few pages and you’ll see my tale of woe. Some toe rag nicked my mirror caps off my driveway last month!

Beyond taking common sense precautions there’s not much else you can do. The biggest risk these days the theft of parts off the car - wheels, lights, spoilers, mirrors (!). So just be careful where you park it, consider security lights and/or cctv at your house if you haven’t already done so.

    Thanks Joe,

yeah hopefully I get past this initial worry fairly soon, I love the car and as you say there's not much I can do to stop it happening.

Those alloys definitely work better with the white than other colours. Thinking about getting the new Polo Gti in that colour + alloy combo.

Dad went back today and put in his order for the Iridium Grey for January. How'd your dad get on after?

the scobes dont steal 2 door ones coz they cant get out of the back quickly!
Thats what I tell myself anyway!
The feeling goes away after a few weeks.
When I got mine I had dreams about it being nicked!I kept checking the drive all the time :o

Mines not even worth a whole lot but I wont leave it anywhere overnight except on my driveway.

My mate had the fog light grill (or something like that) stolen off his MK4 gti.

Yeah he had a 172 R-Line out for a few hours today to try it out. I drove it myself too. Very nice car alright. Comfortable, well equipped and decent to look at. The dealer wasn't keen on talking money / trade in prices for another week or two until they know what the prices / option packs / APR rates are for 181.

The R-Line kit makes a lovely job of it but there's no way he'll spend 2-3k for it... I wonder will they do an offer on that kit for Jan. We'll see.

While in the dealers I sat into a new Arteon. That's a very impressive looking car too.

Mine was told today that the R Line pack was reduced late last year to half price on the Tiguan for early 2017 orders and if the same happens for 2018 orders they will pass on the savings. Same for any other price reductions, but if the prices increase he'll pay what the price was today.

Also said about the 1.9% PCP and if the rate drops he'll pass that on.

Both the salesman and finance guy were very upfront about both and they brought it up rather than dad having to mention it.

To be honest I'd say they've won themselves a customer for as long as my dad is driving with the way they've done this deal. Dad drove Mazda's for the last 15 years and was dead set on a CX5 but the dealer wouldn't budge on his offer so he walked away.

What's the deal with extended test drives? Seen it on a few threads here for different cars and was wondering how they work.

I'm guessing it's certain dealers with certain models?

Ah it’s not that unusual. If you’re known to them / a good customer. You might have to do a temp transfer of insurance which is no biggie.

The best deterrent to people stealing a GTI is someone else nearby buying an R :P (sorry Joe)

I was concerned about my Superb... but I reckon they'll take the GTI down the street first :pac:

Not GTI/R but thought someone in here might be able to answer. Was reading a few first drive reviews of the Hyundai i30n and see that the non performance pack one is £25k in the UK. What is that likely to translate to over here when you add VRT and a bit of an Irish mark up?

Was looking myself earlier, best guess based on the other Hyundai cars is in the region of 33-35k. (The other models convert to euro prices when you divide the sterling price by 0.7-0.8 approximately)

€33k would be a good price, especially when you consider the spec as standard. I'd imagine most GTI owners wouldn't consider it so I reckon they would be trying to take sales from the lesser named hot hatches.

I could have sworn that was on Irish plates. I've seen it drive through Enniscorthy a few times over the last few weeks.

Not half cheap enough imo. Well I guess if you broke it for the parts it might be worthwhile!

Such a monumental waste of money. Seems to be a popular thing to do up in the North especially for some reason.

I'll keep an eye out for it. When I did see it first I thought why would you even bother, it's still a 1.6 at the end of the day no matter how "sporty" they made it look.
