R is for Rowland Rivron, only seen on Hootenanny with people still puzzled as to what he actually does.

To be fair, he also does other things ... like the shortlived Breakfast Show 'Earlier With Jools Holland'!

He also hosted a late '90s entertainment show on Carlton called Good Stuff - alongside a fine young lady by the name of Davina McCall. :D:D:D:D;);););)

I'm one of the few people who remember this show, as it was only seen in London and I lived in Ealing at the time. Of course, being a Carlton commission, it wasn't really good stuff - the jingle at 3:58 is particularly toe-curling.

Fortunately, Davina went on to host the quite good You Bet! replacement Don't Try This at Home!... ;););)

Peel and Bolan were good friends at one point, Peel goes on about Bolan for ages in his autobiography. But they drifted apart when Bolan became proper famous and Peel decided then that he wasn't going to be friends with Rock Stars anymore.

Or maybe Bolan decided that he wasn't going to be friends with paedophiles anymore?

    Peely wasn't one of them.

John "Well of course I didn't ask for ID" Peel?

He sure was. Married a 15 year old.

"All they wanted me to do was abuse them, sexually, which, of course, I was only too happy to do"

"I remember one of my regular customers, as it were, turned out to be 13, though she looked older"

"It was the glamour of the job . . . but frustratingly, American girls of that period — as they do now, actually — had this strange notion of virginity as a tangible thing which you surrendered to your husband on your wedding night. So they would do anything but shag you. They’d give you a blowjob before they’d shag you"

    Lovely fella.

Well, despite the best efforts of certain newspapers, he hasn't officially been confirmed as a you-know-what (whereas Savile and Rolf Harris *have* officially been confirmed as you-know-whats).

And if he *was* officially confirmed as a you-know-what, then the Beeb wouldn't show his episodes of Pops, would they?

Anyway, this sort of discussion is more appropriate for the After Hours thread.

"5pm Discovering Music: Coldplay (Sky Arts)"

Wow, how exciting for them. A whole world they never even imagined was there.

Meanwhile, doesn't BBC4 really love C&W? I mean really, really love it? Honestly, is there ever a fortnight that doesn't include a few C&W shows? I'm not really complaining, I dig it sometimes, but it does seem to get a LOT of screen time.

I think I'll be having the Jools stuff. You'd have to, really.

Open to correction but i think the story goes, the song wasn't doing great at all until Frankie eventually appeared on TOTP's- then it started to climb the charts-Mike Read played it, heard the lyrics and then banned it, thus ensuring everyone went ballistic and brought the single by the bucketload :D

Ah yeah, Mikey the Prude did his bit for it alright, but this well after all that kerfuffle.

It got to number 1 in January for 5 weeks, then dropped down to 36 ... and came back to life again months later when they released Two Tribes, almost getting back to Number 1 again in July.

BBC1 is getting a new Pop show for a six week trial run

    http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-41359261
Greg James and A.Dot have been announced as the hosts of a new, primetime music show on BBC One.
Sounds Like Friday Night will be the first regular, mainstream music programme on the BBC since Top of the Pops was cancelled in 2006.
Broadcast live from Television Centre, it promises to feature "the hottest bands and artists in the world", alongside interviews and sketches.

Worth a try, I don't know if the kids watch television any more but it might work.
