I really hope this nonsense does not send George over the edge

Give the nature of how Ciara Kelly has maneuvered herself into the position of presenting the show by knifing her old friend in the back, I'd like to volunteer a new name for the show.

    High Treason..

He should never have apologised. He should have clarified what he meant and retracted the word blame, and put it off as a conversation to have another day. By apologising he's just admitted he was blaming victims when he knows, I know, and most people know that is not what he was doing.

Similarly if NT were going to suspend him they should have done so at the start of the week. Doing it only when Tesco back out is so transparent.

Can't see RTE wanting anything to do with him either. Goodbye to the plurality of opinion in Irish media!

All that this is going to do is strangle any kind of discussion on tv and radio about rape.

We don't know that. The person on the phone didn't clarify in her opening remarks.

    High T, maybe.

"reason" doesn't belong in the title of this show.

The old story of women not supporting other women is proved by listener figures for female presenters.
Why do over half the population not support their own gender, in this case radio. Check sports, politics.
Women not supporting their own as women could show gender neutrality or as I often observe a more judgemental approach to female broadcasters.
That is fine, no problem. God knows, they tried on Newstalk, with no sucess. Orla Barry anyone?
But why do men have to get in in the neck from feminists as if they are to blame.

Something something gender stereotypes something something toxic masculinity.

Those who moan the most are the conservatives afraid of change. They do nothing but moan and crank, often anonymously online and many on this thread!

Hook said a woman is partly to blame for her own rape.. what kind of response did the Hook supporters expect? They can dish it out well but can't stand being challenged.

Hook apologising 3 days after the event when he could've easily done it via twitter etc has a bang of this EDIT: He did, sorry

Hook hasn't been challenged, he's been shut up.

Totally, I am really getting sick of the witch hunt at this stage.

Now, sorry from moving the topic briefly from Newstalk management's decision that makes-no-sense-on-the-face-of-it-but-managed-to-get-the-station-to-be-the-first-topic-on-the-Sean-O'Rourke-show-today, what-a-surprise-George's-sanctioned-controversy-stoking-approach-eventually-ended-in-the-station-being-discussed-nationwide...

But a quick point on the oft repeated point of men not talking about their problems over a few pints with their mates. There's a reason for this. Men (and women, I guess) go for a few pints with their mates for a laugh and for the craic. Y'know, as a break from real world pressures.

It makes as much sense as asking why men don't go to the doctor to call him a bleedin eejit and give him abuse for supporting whatever sports team he supports.

I'm not saying men don't need to talk about their health more (although we are getting much better at it), but that's not why I go to the pub with my mates every couple of months.

Yes, and I'm sure hotmail.com is your real name.

And if "change" entails people are viciously hounded for holding a reasonable opinion even after apologising for the clumsy expression thereof I am afraid of it.

If "change" entails that people are applauded and rewarded for informing on and attacking each other for thought crime as if we're living in 1950s East Berlin I am afraid of it.

The funny thing is George adores women. His heart must be broken, the poor misunderstood fool.

Not a chance.. She's hasn't a hope of drawing an audience long term. A disingenuous attention seeker of the highest order.

I'm not going to say I will never listen to NT again because I will, regardless of whether George returns but Pat Kenny deserves major kudos and I hope any potential "boycott" doesn't affect his listenership.

I assume given her stance on this that slot will now become "here come the men"?

I am yet to see a single George Hook defender who is female

You're talking absolute shite here. You obviously aren't on other social media outlets if that's what you think. Facebook, the one place where people aren't anonymous (duploelabs) has as many females defending him as males.

I sincerely hope Newstalk hurt in their ratings for this absolute farce of a situation.

I posted this about her on another forum recently:

"She's your classic affluent and clueless, perpetually-offended, feminist PC do-gooder twit."

I might have to revisit this given recent updates.

George often read out texts not only critical of him but ones abusing him severely.

Why is Dr. Kelly pursuing a mediocre media career when she is a fully qualified GP with a healthy, established practice in any case?

She already has the means to have a lucrative, fulfilling career in a capacity infinitely more useful to the nation. She should concentrate on medicine and leave the media opportunities for Young men and women who need them and are actually good at what they do.

And good at radio she is not. She brings little to the table asides from an enormous sense of self-righteousness. Dr. Kelly has about as much charisma on air as a bag of soil and I'm yet to hear her express an original idea.

She is being propelled forwards not by her own work or talent but by a political agenda. An agenda she has advanced considerably by betraying an old friend to whom she owes her entire media career.

Can't believe Ciara Kelly agreed to hosting the show when the opening tune has the name "george hook" still in it!!
She needs to take a stand (another one actually)

I am not a fan of Ciara Kelly. Havent liked her since she started turning up on Fridays discussion on The Right Hook.

But not for one minute do I think she stabbed George in the back. I havent seen her properly call him out. She reallly should have called him out months ago over HPV and the stuff that she regularly calls people out over on twitter. I think Hook was grooming her as a successor and she played along with him
