There's a lot of people high fiving today I bet.

Question is now though - is Hook being taken off air enough for the perpetually offended?

He's been 'trouble' to varying degrees for years and might just know it's time to go even if the circumstances are for the station potentially disastrous. Expect his full time replacement to be compliant and dull.

I'll start listening to Newstalk more now that they're making the right choice.

Advertisers don't want to be associated with his odious opinions, Newstalk are right to suspend him since he costs them money.

All the bigots out there will cry about how it's an attack on free speech, even though it's purely a business decision.

So the religion of fanatical liberalism wins out again. I now can't listen to my favourite presenter because a bunch of metropolitan trendies - Mullally and co - have decided who I am and am not allowed listen to.

People need to understand that this was mainly media driven. The media is absolutely stuffed full of these trendies, and they've had a grudge against Newstalk for a long time because of the lack of woman presenters on prime time slots. Most people I've spoken to agreed with Hook and were baffled by the outrage.

I think another worrying aspect to this whole debacle is the influence of social media on national discourse. The advertisers seem to think that Ireland is represented by the few losers on twitter who seemingly have nothing better to do than call for a presenters head.

The grasping maw of the perpetually offended is never satiated. Any fuel just increases its appetite.
Hook's apologies were like the smell of blood. A sign of weakened prey. To be hounded to destruction.
NewsTalk management have a lot to answer for. What is their politics. Can I Guess?

But they have been for a long time now.
Im not a bigot crying about how its an attack on free speech.

I'm a female who is ashamed that a group of people who claim to be fighting for "my cause as a female" can cause such uproar about something that has been blown way over the top.
Mary Coughlan and Dil and the likes please dont be doing me any favours, thanks anyway!

Surely the suggestion isn't that Newstalk is left-wing? It clearly is not.

The amount of 'the outrage of the left' comments packed with inflammatory statements and paranoiac hyperbole is staggering. The 'right', if that is how we are framing this, are the ones that seem extraordinarily offended here.

Newstalk/Communicorp look really bad in their handling of this. If they were going to suspend Hook, they should have done so immediately after the show on with the comments were aired. If he were a full-time employee rather than a contractor I suspect they'd in hot water procedurally from a HR perspective on this given how they've handled it; their Get Out Of Jail Fee card may be in the fact that he's a contractor.

I listened to Hook when Newstalk first started but eventually got fed up of his schtick. Haven't listened in years except on very rare occasions.

It's clear the knives have been out for him for quite a while within Newstalk Towers from the underlings. The rumours of his behaviour and the way he conducts himself in there were rife, aside from anything he said on air. I suspect that, more than what he said, is fuelling a lot of the reaction from an internal NT perspective.

Chris Donohoe appears to be the ring leader. Perhaps a little bitter after his own show got shelved. Victory for the snowflake liberals.

You've no idea what left wing means, like most people who follow conventional wisdom.

As you seem to enjoy a healthy ignorance of what a bigot is I will leave it below for your edumincation

    bigot
    ˈbɪɡət/Submit
    noun
    noun: bigot; plural noun: bigots
a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions

    This is b*llocks.

I've whinged about George's nonsense lots of times on here, but I'm still very fond of the oul divil.

I tend to agree more often than not with what's called "liberal" around here, but this is way too harsh. Couldn't his bosses tell George to be more careful choosing his words around sensitive issues in future?

Are we going to see who's actually on this petition? If 20 people signed it, how many didn't?

    And Tesco can f*ck off.

You're fairly adept at slinging insults at people whose opinions you disagree with too. I suspect we all are.

Is there any evidence for this? I would actually be impressed if he had managed the overthrow of Hook. Has Chris been hiding that he is a master manipulator and charismatic leader all this time?:D

I cant see the people in Newstalk rewarding him for calling out Hook publicly.

In the context of Boards, "radical left" is shorthand for any position other than poorly thought-out quasi-libertarianism.

Well said Sir! I know some of you have had issues with George's views in the past but even his harshest critics on here have recognised this as a witch hunt!

Wouldn't say master manipulater, maybe mediocre manipulater if his radio performance is anything to go by.
Remember he was the first to come out as shocked shocked!!
    Suggests a plan.

There's loads of them on this thread ffs! Or have a look at the comments in the articles on Facebook. The most liked ones are generally in support of him and a load of them are from women.

The media pretend it's just sad sexist men on their keyboards who support him is shameful. They're supposed to report the facts, but what they'd like to be the case.
