I'll be shocked if this guy is an Islamic, shocked.

If this an Islamic terrorist bomb the obvious response is:
And if it's not an Islamist attack, the obvious response on AH is to let the thread die as fast as possible.

Just glad to see it didn't go off as planned. Using a big, bright, yellow and blue Lidl bag should at least also make it easier to track who it was, where they entered etc than if they used a black backpack given how rammed the tube is at rush hour, largely with people in black/dark coloured suits and coats etc.

Its not the usual MO but neither was knocking people down with trucks until 18 months ago.

Expect more bombs around European cities this weekend.

    All things aside,

It's a great bit of advertising for Lidl. That picture will be all over the world at the moment!!

And if their marketing department are any use (albeit in poor taste) they could say their bags are so strong they contained the explosion quite well!

    Is that a threat?

Let's not jump to conclusions. Someone might have bought something in Lidl that accidently exploded. They often have tenting equipment....gas cannisters etc

If this an Islamic terrorist bomb the obvious response is:

    - Say not all Muslims are responsible

    - scream for the head of a DJ journalist or celeb who says Islam is not a religion of peace

    - light a candle

    - change your Facebook profile to Pray For London

    - participate in a minute silence

    - oppose any sane security measures like restricting travel from counties with Muslim insurgencies into the EU

-oppose rounding up and imprisoning known Islamic extremists

    -oppose deporting Islamic hate preachers

-oppose closing down extremist run mosques.

Then rinse and repeat when there is another attack.

    - Act shocked this keeps happening and pretend you don't know why

    Alternatively you can

    - set up new accounts on social media

    - jerk off to anything connecting muslims to the incident

    - post some nonsense about the teachings of Islam

    - pretend to care about the victims of the incident

    - talk about immigration even when the person turns out to be a native

    - talk about how Europe is doomed to fall under Sharia law

    - talk about how much of an easy target Ireland is

    - say some version of "I told you so"

Yeah, they often have detonators and bags of bolts on special offer too, no doubt.
    Probably entirely completely innocent.

I'd love to say that incidents like this don't make me any more afraid than I was yesterday about travelling on the Underground, since that's what they're designed to do.

I'd like to be able to say that I won't take a second look at people with freezer-bags on the tube next time I'm travelling. Noting their skin-colour etc.

It takes a concerted force of will to dig-up the seeds of mistrust that are planted every time this happens. It's a daily struggle but I think it's worth it, because the alternative is not a society I care to live in.

Having said that, I hope the people responsible are found and never given a chance to operate again.

I wouldn't say it's 100% impossible and an explosion would mangle whatever it may have been beyond recognition, but the picture posted early in the thread does look quite suspicious and Scotland Yard were quick to say they suspect it to be intentional.

Wasn't there a (possibly parody) advert brought out by Volkswagon (though if it was a parody, it would have been someone else), where some terrorists pulled up outside a cafe to commit a suicide bomb? If I remember right, they activated the bomb, but the Volkswagon was built so strongly that only they were killed.

I'm Glad we have our terrorism expert available. How soon can you provide your chemical analysis?

The cannister could explode by heat or a spark from someone lighting a ciggie. You can't go tenting without some bolts. Now it could be terrorism but let's not jump to conclusion's until we've all the facts. I really hope the IRA aren't forming again. They've been known to do stuff in the 90's. Could also be a lone person. Let's establish facts first

The MET declared it as a terrorist incident 40 minutes ago. Why is there still an assumption it was an accident?

We asked 100 people : name something you associate with explosions.

It still could be a lithium battery pack in a bag full of DIY tools with some guy heading off to do the plastering with a bucket of filler or something.

It does look a bit more likely to be a device that didn’t go off though.

However, it’s hard to tell what it was just based on a couple of photographs of a bucket with some wires.

There’s a big issue with “inspired” attacks where it is just some lone wolf who got radicalized online and tried to cobble a crude device together.

Those who were injured are incredibly lucky that this device didn't go off as intended. I hope the scumbag(s) responsible are apprehended and spend the rest of their lives in jail. It's very worrying, wherever you may be living. Coming into the Autum/Winter, public transport is going to get more and more packed.

I don't know if the police have already taken their gloves off, but I would like to think they are working tirelessly to keep these lunatics at bay as best as possible.

    - oppose any sane security measures like restricting travel from counties with Muslim insurgencies into the EU

-oppose rounding up and imprisoning known Islamic extremists

    -oppose deporting Islamic hate preachers

-oppose closing down extremist run mosques.

The above doesn't happen. Way to sensationalize there ;)

I can't imagine that the IRA would start bombing campaigns in London again. Especially with all the forced advancements in Counter Terrorism due to the recent ISIS campaigns.

I could be wrong, of course.

It could have been that Samsung phone that Aer Lingus ask you to put in the bomb proof case before your flight departs!

    Eciggies

If I was on a packed train, and some prat sucked on one of those electronic smoke machines, they'd receive a swift kick in the balls/boobs

I believe it was a concept advert that VW rejected that leaked onto the net. A bit like the Evil Ka ford ad that was also rejected by ford that also leaked onto the net (hmmm viral) that Peta went ape**** over.

That's the second time Lidl have been involved in a terrorist incident in London this year. The knifes used by the attackers on London bridge were the ceramic ones sold by Lidl.

I don't believe that's any less dangerous than the alternative.

Not sure about anyone else but I'm quite happy to assume it was terrorism before we get 'facts'.

No big deal is to assume the worst and hope for the best.
