I can see Sam in Mayo next week. Just think Mayo really want it and think if they can play to their potential will beat Dublin on Sunday. Alot of hype with Dublin I feel. Think Mayo have what it takes if they want it badly enough.

You could say the exact same and just replace the words 'Mayo', for 'Dublin'.

Mayo News Football Podcast Final Preview.

The All Ireland Final Preview podcast brings back some familiar voices as host Rob Murphy is joined by Sean Rice,Edwin McGreal and Daniel Carey to look ahead to Sunday's Mayo and Dublin showdown. Also on this episode we hear from former Mayo performance coach Kieran Shannon on why he thinks this current Mayo squad are showing similar parallels to Munster rugby in 2006.

Donaghy has his say, interesting piece.I've always contended that Aidan O Shea is one of mildest of manner big men in the game,a gentle giant so to speak.Far more sinned against than a sinner.

    Absolutely
He has been too nice for too long.
He has also been "cuter " this year when being fouled as well.....

So have we decided where AOS's best position is then?
My view is midfield, possibly as a third midfielder, bursting forward and supporting the forwards. He's no good in a static position such as full-forward against Dublin, unless there is good service into him and a bit of support.
People say he slows the ball down when he starts in the forwards.
As a midfielder he could dominate around there.

Speaking of lovely young men, thanks a lot to my long lost cousin from Offaly who came through with a ticket. :D
    Relief isn't the word.

Positions have gone out the window a bit but the best we've seen of him is at 11 imo. But that's basically a third attacking midfielder. With the odd foray into the FF line.

Think Aido will be deployed around midfield at different stages on Sunday. Aim will be to target Dublin kickouts and for Cluxton to kick to his.left and perhaps long.

Agin Kerry with Aidan marking Donaghy it frees up space for the front line of Andy and Jason. May be prudent to continue with this.

I listened to the last 3 podcasts back to back yesterday.

There is a lot of confidence there, based on little more than "this is our year", not much in depth tactical analysis.

But something one speaker did say did strike me, he said "we will be back here next year because we are so far ahead of the rest".

And I think he is right, we are so far ahead of the rest.

Galway and Roscommon for all the talk of them are not still a long way off challenging for anything.

If Tyrone are best Ulster has to offer then that does not say much.

    Leinster is a wasteland.

Kerry, after spending from April to August "getting closer to Dublin" are now back in transition, and it looks like a manager who has been very reluctant to try younger guys is still in charge.

Now Mayo will have older guys retiring or playing a reduced role but there are still a lot of very experienced players in their prime on that team.

So next year I can easily see Mayo negotiate a QF group and be back in a least a SF, regardless of how Sunday turns out.
Rochford is sticking with his tried and trusted players some of the younger players used in the league Boland for example aren't getting a look in now, a transition period will eventually come for Mayo and it could be next year who knows?

Kerry could easily have have won the first semi final game against Mayo likewise Roscommon in the first Quarter final, Cork and Derry also in the qualifiers. Will come a time when things don't go for you to get over those tight competitive games and suddenly the view changes to Mayo are no longer so far ahead of the rest.

What happens next year can be parked for now as Sunday is all that matters now. With the season Mayo are having i certainly wouldn't rule out a draw.

Yea, starting midfield but allowed to go forward or back depending on flow of game. Can't see him man marking, but can see him going after a few Dublin hf and FF around the 45 to stimy their long points kicks for a while.

I remember that game and AOS was getting unbelievable verbals from McGee. He was constantly at him and AOS was laughing away.. then that goal before half time sorted him.

That was an absolutely brilliant finish by Cillian that day, great improvisation.

Real shame we didn't manage to kick on,I remember thinking to myself on that most beautiful of sunny days that we really had them on the ropes.Simply couldn't sustain it,we got a right royal tanking in the end.

James Horan: Dublin are even better than last year — but so are mayo

Nice article in the Irish Times by the great Sean Rice now 80 years young :) charting the history of our on going quest to win Sam Maguire since it last entered Ballaghderreen in 1951.

Not sure why they need a "homecoming" plan?

Where will the Dublin homecoming celebrations be after they win? Smithfield? Merrion Square?

    Logistics.

People would need to know the schedule to know when and where the team is arriving. The guards, fire service, order of malta would need to have a plan for public safety.

Think its in Smithfield in Dublin.

I think it was a tongue in cheek/facetious remark.:)

Glorious day here, getting ready to head off.Off work until next Friday. Please God for once lady luck will shine on us.

On paper the odds are very much against us but I am hoping the collective will of our lads will force Dublin to bend the knee.

    Muigheo Abu!
