    Apology seemed sincere enough.

Can people put away the pitch forks now?

The bit I heard sounded heartfelt to me. I never wanted to see him lose his job over this and I'm happy that he's taken on board the criticism his thoughtless comments generated.

Will this apology also silence the "he said nothing wrong" contingent?

Still doesn't stop him from being a woeful broadcaster

George Hook's Apology - (Read out during today's High Noon).

"I want to start the programme with a profound apology. On Friday, September 8th I made comments about rape on the programme that were totally inappropriate and unacceptable and I should never have made them.

I realise that those comments caused wide spread hurt and offence and for this too I am truly sorry. I would particularly like to apologise to all victims of rape, the families, the representatives of the organisations who work day and night to reduce the stigma around rape and also for those who try to increase the reporting of crimes involving sexual violence again men and women.

It was wrong of me to suggest that any blame could be attributed to those victims or that they bear any responsibility in the crimes committed against them. By doing that I played a part in perpetuating the stigma and I unreservedly apologise for doing so.

Everybody has the right to enjoy themselves without fear of being attacked and as a society, we have a duty to our daughters and granddaughters to protect that right. On Friday, I failed in that duty of care. A failure I deeply regret and for which I am truly sorry".

Will Ciara Kelly pull him up over his comments?

In defence of George and Finian McGrath, they were simply reflecting the views of parents who told them of THEIR concerns. So I'm not sure it's fair to blame the broadcaster, it's like blaming Joe Duffy for airing the views of his callers. And honestly, when the best the HSE can do in response is to refer to anybody questioning the vaccine as "terrorists", as opposed to say meeting the parents and addressing their concerns, it does not help to reassure people. It's not like the HSE has a reputation for being up front about their mistakes.

Fair enough if he wanted to give them a voice but his approach to the topic definitely made him seem partisan against the vaccine in the face of monumental statistical evidence otherwise not just from the HSE but worldwide.

Well there's my conspiracy theory out the window.. Glad to hear him back today.

It's a sad day when somebody has to apologise for something they didn't actually say in order to keep their job but it's commendable that management didn't bow to the pressure from sponsors etc.

Hopefully that's the end of it.

No. He may have gone about it badly while making some valid points, but that doesn't matter to the PC 'shout you down' brigade.

He should have told to cheer up or get the f**k out of his studio. The amount of help that he has given to her in her media career, and she's acting all snotty with him today. If I was the presenter, her feet wouldn't have hit the ground.

I'm not surprised she got in on the act. She'll do anything for a bit of self publicity and media attention including kicking a friend while they are down it would seem.

Hopefully that's the end of it.

On this topic, probably, but George's "opinion led" show isn't going to be quite as opinion led from here on in. Which I think is a good thing.

If ever a person personified sanctimonious then that would be Ciara Kelly

I remember her arrogance about GP medial card fees and also another day she said that only medical doctors should have the right to be called doctor. If you get level 8 degree in 3/4 years then spend another 1/2 years getting a masters degree followed by a 3-5 year PHD then you get the right to be called a doctor or have doctor in your title

Ye, another bland, conformist broadcaster. Great....

What a virtue signalling, attention seeking wench that Ciara Kelly woman is. George apologized at the start of the show but she couldn't just leave it at that.

What.. you're telling us that she has said that people with doctorates are not entitled to use the title.. I suspect that you've got some silly agenda going in here.

In relation to the HPV vaccine and its safety:-

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21973261

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24206418

^^^Peer-reviewed research papers with significant statistical analysis sufficient to state in no uncertain terms that HPV is not linked with autoimmune disorders.

As has been stated repeatedly by numerous medical professionals on the radio over the past few weeks (and even beyond that), chronic fatigue is not linked to the HPV vaccine.

George tried a bit of shock jockery and it blew up in his face. It should of happened before this. You can't come out ****e like "I'm an islamophobe" or "I don't like muslins" on air and expect to get away with it indefinitely. This was always going to happen.

When did he say he didn't like Muslims? Evidence please. If radio catered to snowflakes like you presenters would be afraid to say anything. Is that what you want?

Ah yes, the great proponents of free speech. As soon as you say something they disagree with the labels come out. Ironic don't you think?

In interviewing Baroness Warsi, British politician, George's first utterance "I'm an islamophobe". "I don't like muslins", well documented on twitter. Someones farther wrote to letter to George on the back of it and his daughter posted the letter on. You can find it if you want, it wouldn't be hard. Plus, I heard him say it.

You saw it ont witter; now there's a shock. I can't find anything online. Please reproduce the exact quotes, and when they were uttered.

I did. "I'm an islamophobe" direct quote. If you don't believe, I couldn't give a toss, because I heard both statements myself.

That is a direct quote, Foxtrot is quite correct. He had quite an amiable conversation with Baroness Warsi and even conceded that he probably didn't know very much about muslims.
