yes as chinese goes its good..

I don't get the big draw for Tequila Jacks - the breakfast menu in particular - since when was mexican b'fast a hit?

Yuan ming yuan is the best Chinese in the city in my humble opinion as well. Those dim sum, the proper Chinese menu. The staff who remember your name and what you liked best the last time even though you're only in once a year. Winning.

Huevos rancheros are a thing since anyone stepped foot outside the country and ate them.

Probably also some popular influence here and in the UK since Thomasina Myers won Masterchef in 2005 , wrote her book on Mexican food and opened her Mexican restaurants http://www.wahaca.co.uk/tag/huevos-rancheros/

Catch up sporina, you're at least 12 years behind the trend. ;)

Maybe people want/like to go for something a little different?
bit of a weird question if you ask me! I love a good egg dish/fry up as much as anyone but sometimes its nice to have other options!

As it wasn't available before, I guess it was hard to gauge if it was going to be a hit!

I just like trying new places/foods.

can understand the interest in mexican food - but there seems to be a lot of talk about the cuisine for b'fast in particular here..

personally i prefer a les overwhelming flavour profile for my b'fast..

Bit off the beaten track, but I had dinner in the Overdraught in Minane Bridge last week.

I did have dinner there a few months ago, and it was only ok.
However they have upped their game recently.

I went for the Lamb, it was cooked just how I like it, Nice crispy bits on the outside, but very tender on the inside. Plenty of gravy/jus and a decent portion of Veg/Potatoes Both Mashed and Roast.
The OH went for the Chicken and was impressed with it.
    Excellent presentation and service too.

Will be going back, they do an early bird, but that finishes at 6.30 which we just missed.

Wasn't the Overdraught closed for a time, some years ago, and changed hands ? We used to go quite often before then, for Sunday lunch, but have long since moved on to Kirbys in Ballinhassig. Good to hear the Overdraught is back up and running.

Yeah was closed for years, re-opened within the last 2 years.
    Good to see it back.

I think that is because their breakfast menu is good, interesting, reasonably priced and a little bit different. Not everything on it is spicy or full on flavourwise. They do a full Irish and granola types stuff as well as Mexican influenced breakfast dishes.

Personally, I love spicy full on flavours for breakfast. I don't get the big draw to places not serving spicy breakfasts! Down with hollandaise!

Saw this in one of the other threads, figured it was worth a repost here since it's all restaurants:

Due in coming weeks in the former Panda Mama Chinese restaurant on Parnell Place is Sliced, a new wood-fired pizza company that opened its first outlet in Ballincollig Town Centre over a year ago and which has larger, Irish expansion plans. Owner Joe O’Donovan says fit-out for Sliced’s second restaurant, on Parnell Place, is underway and it will employ 32 when open in coming weeks.

Anyone know If that's the same Joe O'Donovan of Wilton Shopping Centre and Capitol infamy ?

    Had lunch in Miyazaki today.
Lemon ramen with pork belly and a marinated egg.
It was really delicious. Pricy @ €14.50 but it was very, very tasty.

Rachel Allen was there with a friend. Despite only spending €11.50 between them, two special taster bowls came out for them free of charge.
    Yes it is begrudgery!

Well, he's at electric picnic now.
All these foodies fall over each other. Understandable, really.

Never had a meal at Miyazaki that hasn't exceeded expectations. I will admit the kitchen is different if his not working, but hopefully that will fade over time.

He wasn't there when I was today and the dish was probably my favorite thing so far.
I have been underwhelmed by some dishes in the past.

As I have a allgrey to fish ( have end up in lovely A and E over it before).

That leaves me very fee things to eat on the menu and everything is something that you can get in your normal Asain st food place.

It's avargee and very over rated.

Went to Tequila Jack's for lunch yesterday and came out almost entirely happy with it.

Had one of their house margaritas, was delicious. Got guac with tortilla chips, cheese dip with tortillas and corn battered calamari for starters, all three were great and they worked really well together as well.

Steak tacos for main came with pickled cabbage, mexican rice, beans and fries, the latter three were all good. The pickle was too pickled for me though, and that was a part of the problem with the tacos themselves: too much pickle. Also wasn't super impressed by the steak in them unfortunately. The beans were actually amazing, so might find something bean-focused for next time I go. Definitely will go again.

I'm taking a friend out for lunch on Thursday and I'm looking for somewhere nice but not in the city centre itself. She's not the most adventurous so nothing too out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers.

    What side of the city?

Gallo and galetti in wilton is a very good Italian, had parking.

Castle cafe in Blackrock castle usually has something to please everyone. Has parking also.

Ballyseedy is decent, or the elm tree in glountaune for popular carvery. Meat and spuds.

The Workshop near the airport is good for a simple lunch. Soup and sandwiches, and very nice cakes.

Gogos on the well road near douglas.

Actually, the Castle is a great idea. It's a special birthday so some of the others may be a bit too casual. Thanks for that

Tried the new Eco location in glanmire today for some early dinner.

Menu is identical to the douglas restaurant.

Honest Opinion is if you like Eco in douglas the food is to the same good standard here. Portions are big, Food is good, price is reasonable enough. Snickers Cake was particularily good today :D

For me its alot better than the douglas location as there is plenty of space, you are not stacked on top of each other like the douglas location. They are also operating a bar there and had the match showing etc. But the Bar area is seperate from one side of the restaurant so there was no noise spilling over into the dining area. Good setup with plenty of parking available.

Honestly think it will do really well there.

Any particular reason not to support a local business (and yet like seeing local business relationships) ?

the beer revolu who else will be moaning ha.

My family are in the food industry.

It's normal for others in it to give things to them for free or look after them more. It's trying to impress the compensation. Where my family's business is based anywhere I go I get free food of a starter or cake. I will know the owners and manager by name and they will know me. It's just that you support each other and also help out when needed.

After a cook and author at Ballymaloe was charged and sentanced with a particular crime I'd be very slow to line their pockets.
