I heard he was dropped by text. Who knows

A text would be bad form, hardly likely?

Timing would make sense anyway, there seemed to have been a trail of sorts for the final panel on Tuesday and I believe a weekend away this weekend.

They are hardly going to drop a couple of players at this stage

I'm not familiar with what goes on but I don't think it's unusual for squads to get trimmed a little bit in the run up to the final. They (management and players) probably know the 26 man squad now give or take a couple of slots.

There are 36 in the squad at present (including the 5 development guys). If Management feel that 1 or 2 of those additional 10 players might be a bit negative or down about not making it, then they would be have to be a bit ruthless.

Truly beautiful evening for it.Hope all goes very well for the lads. The O Sheas can jump over the fence.:)

Hoping to head to the banquet this year, first time for everything.Looks like there's huge demand for same as they're only taking names at this stage.

None of the injured trio trained this week. Donie and Colm expected back this weekend. Diarmuid next week. All expected to be absolutely fine for Final.

Interview with Rochford on The Connaught's Fbook page

ok how is this for a game plan. Donie and Tom midfield. Dublin are very athletic here so we need very mobile midfielders.
Seamus in center half forward and to help out with kickouts and Aiden in full forward. coc and am on both wings
Mcl and doc, then there is durcan and loftus to come in, ah here I give up.....makes me glad I'm not in roachfords shoes.

Can't see us changing too much from the Roscommon replay. Keegan in for somebody though.

Thank heavens someone actually created a thread for the final, it takes all the mess away from this thread :)

another conundrum for the back line, what about Caf?

Dublin not as physical as Kerry with star, but with players like Con
(what a player a joy to watch, a new gooch is found!)
Kevin mac who can take a score from a nothing ball,
is Caf mobile enough to bring in to counter that.
Is he fit enough? Who to take off if he is?

If Caf plays, we lose, big. Sorry its that simple. Nice guy, nice clean footballer, but nowhere near up to it. When he was dropped for the Roscommon replay, our championship took off. Bringing him back would be a huge mistake, akin to changing the goalie last year.

At half time in the Clare game I was convinced that this teams goose was cooked. They did none of what they used to do, tackle hard, run hard, create turnovers etc.

I was at the Cork and first Roscommon games, and even though I left the Cork game with a feeling of relief the absolute dross that was the first Roscommon game convinced me again that this team were running on empty, a “stay of execution” seemed to be one term that was used after that game.

If there goose was not cooked then it was some bizarre cunning plan by Rochford to just do enough to get into the All Ireland series and build from there .

And since the Roscommon replay that seems to be the case.

The Roscommon replay looks like some sort of epiphany, the minute they turn on the switch that gets turned on by good teams when required.

now you see the cunning plan.

I wouldn't go that far. He is simply struggling to return to form from a serious injury which can take 18 months to return properly from (Andy Moran being a case in point), and people forget, he was carrying an injury the day donaghy went onto him too. By Donaghy's own admission, he comfortably got he better of Donaghy in the meeting between the two in the previous season.
He was the best full back in the country for a time so I wouldn't be writing him off in such a manner. He mightn't start against Dublin and Id agree with that, but I think he could play a part later in the game, and next season.

I suppose like Moran, if and when he plays a few good games, the same guys calling for him to be ran from the panel will be saying he is great, and someone else will be the butt of their ire.

I have no problem with a player being injured. Problem is he seems to be injured a lot. And throwing a less than 100% player into a big game is inviting disaster. That's not a criticism of him but of the selectors if he was selected. Starting him in the final would be a step backwards. He's had a poor season. If he was poor against Derry and Roscommon, imagine what he will be like against Dublin.

Tom Parsons on Mayo's Topsy Turvy season. https://cdn.radiocms.net/media/001/audio/000032/202792_media_player_audio_file.mp3

Dave McIntyre from OTB speaks to Mayo midfielder Tom Parsons on Mayo's season and looking ahead to another Mayo Dublin final.

Tough gig for the Mayo players who are based outside Mayo travel wise.Truly impressive how many times this season the lads have dug out a result when necessary.

Really nice build up here, the whole Dublin performance has brought a sharp dose of realism to the county.

We will need a huge performance from Andy,he'll get little if any latitude off Fitzsimons,Cooper or whoever is assigned to mark him.

    Mayo 1-7 Cork 0-8

It's the Cora show, superb points from play and a goal thrown in.Cora has scored 1-6.Simply brilliant.A story of a lot of missed chances.
Mayo have conceded lots of soft frees,Orla Finn has done the necessary.

Cork will have the wind in the second half.

Badly needed goal for Mayo courtesy of Aileen Gilroy.Cork are very dominant in the second half.

Cora has added another score off her ciotog at the start of the second half.

    Mayo 2-9 Cork 0-14
