So Ronan McCarthy is your new manager. He was a good player and has success at club level.

How is this viewed in the rebel county?

    Happy with the appointment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,077 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Will wait and see who he brings with him

    Decent club manager alright

Not too many queueing up for the job

Hopefully he can't be worse than the last 2 appointments

Would have been happier with Billy Morgan, but give the guy a chance I suppose

I think Ronan has a good chance of making a success of the job. It will be very interesting and critical who he brings with him. He should bring a fresh approach and given time could be a very good choice, 3 year term. He has involved with Cuthbert but I would think he will do things differently. There wasn't too many really in the running.
He will have his hands full that's for sure. We seem to like principals as football manages, as he became principal a couple of years ago in Mahon and more recently in Glanmire Community College.

Solid enough appointment - worked with Counihan & Cuthbert so should have a decent grasp on what works and what definitely doesn't work. All the best to him, big job but if he's given 3 years then he could bring through some players and make you competitive in the League again which is something you need imo - use that as a building block towards Munster & AI improvements

Who would you have gone with Ozymandias10?

At least in this case, Ronan Mc has played at intercounty level, he has been involved in the backroom team of our last senior all ireland football title, and he has had club success.

I think he deserves a shot at it.

I would be interested to hear your alternatives though.

I would have preferred an outside Candidate but that was never going to happen. Michael Cleary would be my choice and a guy who has proven himself at U21 intercounty level and would know a lot of the players. In fairness to McCarthy maybe my comment is a little harsh as I think it all depends on who his backroom team are. If he gets good people with him (his people) he could be a similar appointment to Kingston. I really hope it works out. I will give him time and support. there is no doubt there is ability in this Cork and hopefully he can oversee improvements. Also I do think that the fact the players weren't consulted on this was a good thing.

Fair enough. I think he gets to pick his own team alright. its sounds like they are following the approach taken with senior hurling set up, which is a positive.

I think the players should have no argument with this appointment. In fairness, there is potentially a good team there, but it is crying out for a more professional approach, with a definite strategy and game plan. hopefully Ronan McCarthy will bring that at least.

McCarthy a good appointment but will be at nothing if he has to put up with the usual ****e over trying to organize training pitches and gym.

Good match out in Ballinlough tonight in the final of the City division Junior football championship.

Delanys beat Whites Cross by 1-11 v 0-12

The Pairc should be interesting tomorrow, Killeagh are doing well...big scalp in Douglas and unlucky agin Erins Own they may be the surprise package this championship.

Looks like the ladies football semi final v Mayo is fixed for Cavan. How in the name of God is Cavan halfway? Joke of a decision.

Good win for killeagh tonight. Glen really hammered CIT in their replay and Nemo won the Junior A hurling city division beating Dillons 2--17 v 0-17

Google tells me Mayo (castlebar) to Cavan is 182 km
Cork ( cork city ) to Cavan is 302 km

    Absolute idiocy.

    Why was Ennis not considered?

    Mayo to Ennis 160km
    Cork to Ennis 140 km
They would have been less for Mayo and half the journey for Cork.

Did it have to be a neutral province?

nope, Dublin - Kerry in Thurles last Saturday. If not Ennis then Tullamore or Portlaoise would be better. saw a tweet that Cavan is a 900 odd km round trip for one of the Cork players, presumably from west Cork

Jesus don't mention the war. I've never seen Dillons that bad in the last few years. The corner back was injured in the semi final, and the full back had go off in the first half and the full back line went to hell.

Douglas out of the football now too. Losing to CIT by a point. They were up by 6 with about ten minutes to go. Great display by the college at the end in fairness, but Douglas seem to have a seriously questionable character. I was just by their dugout and the management were clueless too.
Terrible year for them, was a seriously strong side

How did Eoin Cadogan play for Douglas?

I thought he was actually very good. Really strong and broke up a lot of attacks.
He gave away a terrible ball near the end though that led to an important cit point

Don't know about the football side of things but the hurlers are total joke to lose to Killeagh/CIT given the side they have. Going anyway well they should be walking that competition.

Glen have been poor all yr ,Bride rvs game aside, maybe they're hitting some form? Couple of nice young hurlers like Adam Lynch, Mark Dooley, Robert Downey, Evan O Connell adding to the side.

    Eammon Ryan :D

I personally think Eamonn Ryan should stick to the ladies football. He provided nothing to the team last year imo.

CIT team that beat Douglas was like a Devolvement panel for a future Kerry Team. No good for Cork Clubs. Douglas have players who would have gained vital experience in more Championship matches.

What are the Barrs football team like this year? Got a tip to bet on them for the county a few weeks ago, haven't managed to get to any matches though..
