awe come one, put the toast on the plate? and then what, serve a plate for the toast for buttering? use your imagination

Why would you need a plate for the toast for buttering? You have a plate already. Anyway twas just a throwaway suggestion to make a crappy looking serving look better. Obviously there are better ways but it looks like they sure didn't use their imagination with that breakfast.

even better - you don't need another plate - but if someone wanted one they could get it..

imagination? how my adding chips or beans (which are not part of such)

point is, for some of us here it looks like a decent clean irish b'fast

For breakfast I love The Silver Key,not convenient to town but well worth the drive imo.

I went to Gallo & Geletti twice recently and I love it,extremely busy even early in the evening so you'd be better off booking from 5pm onwards as loads were turned away and we were told they'd need our table back at 7pm.I love the goats cheese starter and the Hake for mains, not gone on deserts myself but the others love the sticky toffee pudding.

A full Irish shouldn't look clean. Save that for the brunch eating people :-) A full Irish should be a proper feed to keep people going for the day and not some gourmet experience.

JohnOS in Douglas do a good Full Irish...and also plenty of smaller irish breakfast options if you want less.

I think it should look clean - until you dig into it, that is.
Only thing that breakfast is missing is white pudding, imo.
(oh, and serving loin/back rashers without the tail should be punishable by death - so, on second thoughts, that breakfast is a travesty).

Tequila Jacks does a very good breakfast.
I like the egg options but was with people who had the full Irish and it looked very good and substantial (yes they did have those flecking baked beans but they were in a ramekin)

I went to Cafe Velo yesterday as when you said it I recalled a friend once told me the breakfast in the was unreal also. And it was nearer than Tara's Tearooms.

What a mistake, I went in and took a seat and the place was absolutely rammed a it's popular for some reason,
Anyway the waitress came down once I hit the seat and asked if I knew what I wanted, I quickly skimmed the menu and no eggs Benedict so I panicked and ordered the full Velo.

Only when she left I read what it consisted of and I wasn't impressed but they're one of the places who name the makers of the sausages and pudding as if quality is going to make up for quantity which in some cases it does but not in this instance.

Two sausages, two bacon without the tails, a half moon of some fancy pudding, one egg, half a tomato, hash brown, toast and tea or coffee.

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and I treat myself once a week to a full Irish which when it lives up to the name it keeps me going until that evening, well sorry to say but after this I was eating again at 2.

From memory I think there was also a mini Velo and I shudder to think what that consisted of.

Anyway it came out and I was hoping the presentation and flavours would make up for the lack of food but it didn't, it was truly Meh.
The plate was also too big for the amount of food which made it look even more miserable and the worst part of all was the price, €9.90!!!

I could only find three examples in my gallery but I'll share them with you because words can't justify how much of a rip off this breakfast was.

The Celtic Tiger is definitely alive and well in Cafe Velo.
    I won't be going back.

Or the budget option on North Main St! Haven't been so can't comment on how good/bad it is.

Had dinner in 12 tables in Douglas.
Loved it. Great menu, loved the decor, and service was great. Definatly will return, especially for brunch

Had the pancakes in GoGos in Douglas today. They were only ok tbh. Very thick and gloopy and the bacon was only ok too. That said the portion was decent and the service was very good and friendly. Might go back but to try a different dish.

I really like GoGo's but the pancakes are not great if I'm honest. The breakfast bap and the porridge are both delicious and well worth a try.

Unfortunately I'm near enough for it to be a regular temptation :)

Went to the Oyster Tavern, food was superb but the service was poor, no water at our table and we had to ask to get some after our order was taken, which we had to wait half an hour for and then had another half an hour wait for it to come. A couple next to us had to ask on 3 different occasions to get the bill, even when we went to the bar to get a drink, was another 10 minute wait despite it being quiet. The staff were really pleasant to be fair but there didn't seem to be any orginisation.

Will try it again and have something else. I should have mentioned I took a brownie take away and well that was utterly sublime :)

That is a really uninspiring menu!

It could be any bar food in any bar anywhere in the country.

Went to the oyster tavern a few weeks back myself and I really enjoyed it - the food was lovely but I agree with the post regarding the service - there were a bit disorganised and slow but very pleasant at the same time. I was putting it down to them having just opened but it's been well over a month now so they probably should have ironed out those little details by now.

I had a chicken and bacon salad and then the sherry trifle for dessert - it was delicious I have to say. Yes, the menu isn't very big and the food might not be imaginative but they do it well.

Btw, regarding the whole full Irish debate, had the full Irish in Tara's Tearooms a few weeks ago and it was huge! 9.95 for an absolutely massive plate :-D great value and tasty - if you're looking for a big slap up fry then I would go there

Had dinner in Tequila Jacks over the weekend. Very disappointing, very average Mexican. More like Meixicant.

I've only had breakfast there and I had plenty to give out about at the beginning.
To be honest, going on reviews, I wouldn't be rushing for dinner but I will return for breakfast.

Jaysus I thought the silver quay was grim for breakfast myself. Everything on it was greasy and overcooked.

Oyster tavern menu doesn't look great to me either. I guess loads of Cork city people have own their favourite butchers, bread suppliers, fishmongers etc in the market, but the ones they have listed there as suppliers would not be top of my list. For example, why would you brag about O'Connells being your smoked salmon supplier on a menu, when Hedderman's is right there? Poor judgement.

Chicken Inn Supreme of Chicken is another odd one. I can think of two other chicken suppliers in the market that I would go to in preference.

Yep, that's one that struck me as odd! Because also if you don't know that the Chicken Inn is a poultry butcher in the market, it sounds like some kind of fast food joint!

Regarding Tequila Jacks, we went in over the weekend. Thought we'd get lunch, but actually they were still serving breakfast. It was good - I had the breakfast quesadilla and when I pointed out they forgot the avocado, they brought me a little bowl of chopped avocado. Margaritas were great, and they switched the TV over to something we wanted to watch and left it on for us (it was very quiet so don't think that was an issue). I'd like to go back for dinner and see what the rest of the menu is like.

Slightly off topic but I met a few friends in the Oyster for a drink on Sunday evening. Have never seen staff seem so anxious to keep selling your more drink, our glasses were still around a third full when they were round at the table asking if we wanted another round! Are they on commission or something?

Went to Yuan Ming Yuan last week. Absolutely fantastic. Aromatic duck for mains with perfectly, fluffy fried rice. The staff are really nice and lots of asian people eating there too so all good.

To be honest, I'd be more interested in how well it was done. That looks a perfectly reasonable bar food menu to me.

I don't get the big draw for Tequila Jacks - the breakfast menu in particular - since when was mexican b'fast a hit?

bit of a weird question if you ask me! I love a good egg dish/fry up as much as anyone but sometimes its nice to have other options!
