Putting McGregor in a boxing ring with Mayweather is like putting Diarmuid Connolly on a soccer pitch with Ronaldo and Messi.

Mayweather will also know that this fight is not only about his own record and pride as a boxer, but that the sport of boxing rests on his shoulders tonight.

If you can get access to BBC5, the radio station, they're covering it live.

I know it's in the rules, but what are people's opinions on boxers/fighters essentially being allowed to put as much weight as they like in between the weigh in and the fight? Kind of makes a mockery of the weight classes?
I understand the need to weigh in a day prior to the fight, but why not limit them to say a 5% weight increase or something?
The IBF just scrapped a rule they had where a fighter couldn't be any more than 10lbs over on fight day. Some fighters just skipped it anyway. e.g. Daniel Jacobs v GGG.

They often geo block sporting events, but i'm not sure if this applies to Ireland. Could probably still get it via Sky Digital though.

If Mc Gregor comes in at 170 he's screwed - he gasses quick enough in his previous fights as it is. it's not extra power he needs, it's speed - which will diminish with every pound he adds between the weigh in and the fight.

The difference in speed between the 2 tonight will be the clearest marker of who is the amateur and who is the professional - this could get really embarrassing if Mc Gregor adds too much.

In fairness, that's not why people are outraged.

They're being called traitors and west Brits because they're not backing one of their own. It's sad people are so sensitive about it.

Even saw some suggest they were going to Betsafe, a British company, because of the treasonous bastards. You couldn't write it.

Yeah, I saw the ad and assumed people would be talking about that, but glad to see all the race baiting stuff has been left behind the last few weeks of the build up.

Better off going to Boylesports. I'm going to make a point of cancelling my Paddy Power account right now.

So when Kavanagh posts a pic saying "if he dies, he dies" it's a movie quote and people need to lighten up. But when Paddy Power use a movie quote it's playing into a race war??

Well Mayweather was trying to bill this as a black vs white thing by saying he was going to beat McGregor for all the black people out there, so Paddy Power coming along with that in that context seemed a bit wrong. They're just playing into the idea that it's black vs white. I don't actually care tbh, I just don't like Paddy Power and never have.

McGregor will be like a rabbit in the headlights when he comes out

He is not going to land a single punch on Mayweather

Best he can hope for is a KO/TKO after a few rounds or throw in the towel

Boxers usually don't cut as much as MMA fighters because MMA fighters need that extra bulk for the clinch, so I think it's more an MMA problem than a boxing one. I think most people agree the weight cut is one of the worst problems in MMA, probably above steroid abuse.

Thanks for the detailed analysis mikey. I don't have to bother getting up early to watch it now.

    Draw
Google poll with 496,109 votes has McGregor ahead to win by 56% to 44% which I'm surprised to see. I just hope he makes some sort of a good fight out of it and its not a complete shambles. If Mayweather is in form I think he'll destroy him. Good luck to Conor though, he is some legend to have made today happen.

Who said he's coming in at 170? The most he's ever fought at is 168. George Lockheart has said he's going to go in lighter than he usually does for speed. Says he'll only gain a couple of pounds after the weigh in.

McGregor said last night at the weigh-in that he'd be close to 170.

Yes, 5Live block lots of broadcasts online for non-UK IP addresses. But if you have a half decent radio (even a car radio) you should be able to pick it up on AM (606 and 909).

Mayweather won't give him the opportunity. He knows how important this fight is for the sport of boxing. The only way Mayweather can lose this fight is if he becomes complacent due to the utter dominance he will display over McGregor from the start; But again, the importance of the fight, combined with Mayweather's skill and professionalism, should dictate this does not happen.

Again with the lies. I never once asked for you to "hand over 500 euros" before the fight. I offered the bet, you refused it by adding stipulations to it. End of story. You wimped out. I won't be responding again.

No wimpering out here weldoninho, the only person whimpering away from this bet is you. Show me you got 50k cash in the bank to back up your mouth and we will get it on for 100 euro. Otherwise you were trying to spoof me, Outlaw Pete and LightofTruth and it is plain as day for all to see.

I'll give you 500-1 for any bets over €100

Your words, not mine. If you cant back up your words it is better to keep your mouth shut lest people call you out on it. But I guess you have learned that lesson by now? ;)

He did add in the small print though, "maximum stake allowed .000005 cents"

Another analogy is comparing soccer and sprinting. Soccer players sprint, but the fastest soccer player in the world isn't even as fast as Ireland's best sprinter, not to mention a world-class sprinter.

Conor should be aiming for 162/163 fight time, assuming his team have done by this as right as possible.. plenty liquid rehydration and decent solids on board..

6-7 litres liquid is 13-15 lbs. Of course, he won't retain all that...

6-7 lbs solids, and won't retain all that...

The period between weighing 153 and 162-163 is about 22 hrs when you factor in 7-8 hrs sleep-rest..

8-10 lbs in 22 hrs is plenty. No need to be 170 or more in the ring..

If you are too scared to put your money where your mouth is, fair enough. Adding nonsense stipulations shows you are in over your head. Let's pretend I didn't have the money to cover it, and miraculously McGregor wins, you lose nothing by taking the bet and can constantly hound me about welshing on it.

You are a spoofer. You don't have €100 to put up. You know you'd be giving me the money and are looking for loopholes to save face. You know it, I know it and everyone reading your pathetic baiting posts knows it.

lol - it's just one guy with a big mouth saying "I'll batter you" and another saying "right so, lets go"

I don't know it. I reckon it's highly more likely that he'd pay you the €100 if Mayweather wins than you'd pay him €50000 if McGregor wins. Maybe that's just me.

Lol scared to put my money where my mouth is. 100 euro, a mornings wages

Fact of the matter is you dont have 50,000 cash. But you still went throwing 500-1 odds about and now you are being called out on it.

Now you are digging yourself a deeper hole by saying you have the money to back the bet up. So prove it here now and I will wire you the 100 by Paypal in the next 10 minutes and we will get the bet on.

If you cant do that then you are spoofing. I will be here all night waiting weldoninhio. Are you going to step up to the plate and honour your words?

Brave words that cant be backed up.

As an aside and forgetting about the bookies odds what odds do ye think May-Mac should be just based purely on chances? Im thinking McG 12-1 but maybe some think far more than that?
