My pal bought a new car 2 weeks ago. While his partner was at work someone must have clipped the rear corner and they have then used something to rub the area of paint or something. It looks as though they went at it with some sort of scouring sponge or similar. This has dulled the paint in the area.

I have a DA here with orange, green and black hexlogic pads along with Menzerna super finish and fast gloss. What would be the best combination to use to try and sort this out? It's a silver metallic Skoda.

FG with green pad and SF with black pad should be sufficient. Is it FG400?

    Scuffed diamond cut alloy..

Just noticed while washing car this evening. Don't remember feeling hitting anything :(

Any easy (cheap) way to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Mick

Dont think there is an easy or cheap fix!

I suppose, given that you are likely going to have to bring it to somewhere like Rim Solutions to have it sorted, and its pricey enough...it would be no harm to try out something. Dont know for sure, but perhaps a light wet sand and polishing, might bring it up or at least take the look off it.

Any idea what rimsolutions might charge? Car less than a month old... It's actually not that noticeable when you stand back from it

The first time I did the same to my diamond cut alloys I considered getting them done. Rim Solutions quoted me €120 per wheel for a full refurb. I left it for a while, hit them again so I was glad I didn't go ahead with it the first time.

If I were you I would clean the scuff with IPA/alcohol wipes, get a can of lacquer (my favourite halfords petrol resistant lacquer as it's very tough), spray a bit into the lid and apply to the scuff using a cotton bud. This will stop water getting in underneath the damaged lacquer and causing whiteworm.

No point in getting the wheel fully refurbed for that small bit of damage.

That's the stuff. I've always used it when painting brake calipers and hubs as it withstands wheel cleaners very well and creates a strong "wall" on whatever it's applied to.

Got a quote of 105 to refurb. Probably buy a new alloy for that. Will touch up with the laquer and try and forget about it

New wheel would be I guess around 3 times that at least

Actually about 200 euro for a new one.. I'll live with it for now and maybe keep an eye out for a deal on a new one... Would a refurb be as good as a new wheel? In terms of maintaining the diamond coat?

    Hi folks,
Delighted with the karcher hose trolley bargain I got last weekend. So much easier to roll out and back in. I'd been fluting about with a tough garden hose for ages. Now my next quest is to replace the hose on my Lance. It's very stilff and awkward. Anyone have good suggestions for a replacement hose (do you aslo have to replace Lance?) for nilfisk 130 washer.
    Thanks,
    Mick

You mean the high pressure hose from the machine to the gun? That's always going to have some degree of stiffness. If you need a replacement or extra length, speak to Serlex, Airside Swords. Ring ahead if dropping in, as he's a one man show and on the road quiet frequently.

Thanks the length is fine just bit of a pain to roll up.

Have few days off next week, so looking to use this time to work on the car and get it ready for the VAGE show. I'm looking to clean the seats and carpets any recommendations on what cleaner to use. I'm hiring a wet vac for the few days (will end up giving the carpets in the house a clean).

Everything internal will be getting a wash and will apply either carpro fabric coat or gtechnic smart fabric to the seats, I'm not sure if it's worth giving the carpet a spray.

I'm a fan of Chemical Guys Fabric Clean. I diluted it down as they recommend and sprayed it on. Gave it a gentle rub and vacuumed it off. It worked a treat on a rather filthy beige carpet (a domestic carpet cutoff).

Yeah, I'd have said same CGs Fabric Clean too. Never let me down when I was doing interiors...but that said, it's been some time since I've tried anything else. Still use it aroundl the house though! :)

Heading to the VAGE show myself (not entering my car-it is not even close to the standard of shows) but will keep an eye out for yours-what car are you entering?

Thanks, gents. Will place an order this morning.

MSE - nothing special just a mark 7 golf.

There is no such thing as ‘just’ a mark 7 golf :) . I really enjoy going around looking at how people maintain the alloys, paintwork, interior etc-some work put into them. Would like to maybe enter the car someday when I know enough about maintaining it. Best of luck at the show.

What is the best way to apply touch up paint?

I got some touch paint from the dealer €10, just in case I find a few spots that require attention when working on the car.

But from looking on the net, plastic tooth picks seem the preferred option. Apply a little bit of paint and over fill the chip with lacquer. Some site suggests using a denibbing tool to flatten down the repair and then give it a pass with a da.

Anyone have any experience of stone chip repairs.

    Layer it if possible. R
The touch up might be an all in one; no need for lacquer.
The best finish is to finish it proud of the original finish, sand back and polish to perfection

The kit I got from the dealer provides two tubes, paint and lacquer separated out.

In terms of sanding back any recommendations?

Is there anything that can be done with lacquer peel on a car?

Have a tiny bit of peel above the rear arch of my Golf that I would like to sort before I sell, also have a Polo for sale that has a bit on the front bumper. Is there any quick-fix for this or would a full respray be the only option?

(The peel area is only about the size of the palm of my hand on both cars).

You could have a smart repair done on the area but would be best to have the whole panel that's effected done.

Aye I'll probably leave it so, hoping to have both cars sold by the end of the month. Maybe if I were holding on to them for longer then I would get them resprayed. Thanks!
